Aggregating poly(glycine-alanine) (poly-GA) is derived from the unconventional translation of the pathogenic intronic hexanucleotide repeat expansion in the C9orf72 gene, which is the most common genetic cause of frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a candidate as a neurotransmitter in the vertebrate retina. The GABA analogue muscimol has been used to probe the properties of GABA receptors in other parts of the vertebrate central nervous system (CNS). We thus used 3H-muscimol to investigate potential GABA receptors in the retinas of goldfish and chick by means of biochemical assay techniques and light microscopic autoradiography. The number of schistosomula in lungs was determined by compressed organ autoradiography at intervals up to 14 days after exposure of mice to 75Se-labelled cercariae by tail immersion. Probit analysis of compressed lung autoradiogram focus counts, expressed as percentages of initial infection level, yielded estimates of the average time of arrival, peak accumulation in the lungs and average time of departure of schistosomula: 4.5 +/- 0.87, 6.3 +/- 0.45 and 11 +/- 0.58 days, respectively. Epidermal cell renewal time of seborrheic skin was estimated in 8 adult Cocker Spaniels and 5 adult Irish Setters, using autoradiography after [3H]thymidine was given intradermally. Cell renewal time of the viable epidermis was approximately 7 days. Seemingly, the seborrheic skin observed in these Cocker Spaniels and Irish Setters was associated with an altered rate of epidermal keratinization.

In contrast to the reported effects of polyamines on the high affinity neurotransmitter uptake, two polyamine-like spider toxins significantly increase the high affinity uptake of glutamate as demonstrated with high resolution autoradiography. The effects of both spider toxins were compared to those of a polyamine toxin from the wasp Philanthus triangulum, which is known to inhibit the high affinity glutamate uptake.

DNA synthetic activity was studied by autoradiography in unilaterally cryptorchid (abdominal) and contralateral intact(scrotal) testes in mice. Nongerm cells were inactive in DNA synthesis in both the cryptorchid testis and in the intact control. Labeling indices of undifferentiated type A spermatogonia did not show any differences, indicating that type A spermatogonia did not temperature sensitive in DNA synthesis in vivo.

Skin specimens of patients suffering from actinic comedones, young patients with acne vulgaris, and normal controls of the same age groups respectively were subjected to in vitro autoradiography. From the results it can be concluded, that a rise in the proliferational activity in the follicular infundibulum due to actinic stimuli is responsible for the development and growth of actinic comedones.

We analysed by liquid scintillation counting and by autoradiography the DNA repair synthesis induced by UV irradiation in mononucleated cells from peripheral blood of 'hairy cell leukaemia' patients.
