Antibacterial activity of green synthesized copper oxide nanoparticles against multidrug-resistant bacteria.

Using plant extracts in the green synthesis of nanoparticles has become an environmentally acceptable approach. In our study, copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) were synthesized using ethanolic extracts of Azadirachta indica and Simmondsia chinensis. CuO NP formation was confirmed by the change in color and by UV‒visible spectroscopy (CuO NPs peaked at a wavelength of 344 nm). TEM images confirmed the semispherical shape of the CuO NPs, with particle sizes ranging from 30.9 to 10.7 nm. The antibacterial activity of these NPs was evaluated by using the agar diffusion method against clinical i

Anti-Breast Cancer Effects of Carbon Quantum Dots: In Vivo Angiogenesis and Arginase Co-Inhibition.

Breast cancer evades the immune system through immune-regulating enzymes. One of them is arginase, primarily produced in tumor-resident cells, especially by tumor-associated macrophages and myeloid-derived suppressor cells. This helps malignant tumors thrive and escape immune surveillance. However, targeting arginase is challenging because of its crucial role in the urea cycle. Pharmacological inhibitors of arginases have been linked to severe side effects in nitrogen metabolism, particularly hyperammonemia. Herein, therefore, we report on the arginase-inhibition-based in vitro and in vivo tre

A Landscape on Lymphatic Filariasis with its Effects and Recent Advanced Treatments.

Lymphatic filariasis is an infection caused by parasites that poses a significant health, social, and economic burden, affecting a vast population that exceeds 120 million individuals globally. The Etiology of the infection is attributed to three nematode parasites, namely Wuchereria bancrofti, B. timori, and Brugia malayi, as well as which are phylogenetically related. These parasites are transmitted to humans via mosquitoes belonging to the Anopheles, Aedes genera, and Culex. As per the estimation provided by the WHO, the current number of individuals infected with filariasis stands at appro

Utilizing larvicidal and pupicidal efficacy of Eucalyptus and neem oil against Aedes mosquito: An approach for mosquito control.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Plant-based products can provide safe and biodegradable mosquito control agents. The essential oils have a strong odor due to complex secondary metabolites and exhibit lower density than that of water, which renders them suitable to form a thin layer above the water surface. The present study was designed to evaluate the larvicidal, pupicidal activity of Eucalyptus and neem oils against Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We evaluated the activity of commercially available Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) and neem (Azadirachta indica) oils aga

Here we report a simple, rapid, environment friendly approach for the synthesis of gold nanoparticles using neem (Azadirachta indica A. Juss.) fungal endophyte, which based upon morphological and cultural characteristics was eventually identified as Fusarium oxysporum. The aqueous precursor (HAuCl4) solution when reacted with endophytic fungus resulted in the biosynthesis of abundant amounts of well dispersed gold nanoparticles of 10-40 nm with an average size of 22nm. These biosynthesized gold nanoparticles were then characterized by standard analytical techniques such as UV-Visible spectrosc

Nimbolide protects against endotoxin-induced acute respiratory distress syndrome by inhibiting TNF-α mediated NF-κB and HDAC-3 nuclear translocation.

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is characterized by an excessive acute inflammatory response in lung parenchyma, which ultimately leads to refractory hypoxemia. One of the earliest abnormalities seen in lung injury is the elevated levels of inflammatory cytokines, among them, the soluble tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) has a key role, which exerts cytotoxicity in epithelial and endothelial cells thus exacerbates edema. The bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) was used both in vitro (RAW 264.7, THP-1, MLE-12, A549, and BEAS-2B) and in vivo (C57BL/6 mice), as it activates a plethora of ov

Azadiradione regulates heat shock factor 1 function by interacting with its DNA-binding domain independent of the oligomerization domain.

Heat shock factor 1 (HSF1) masters cellular proteostasis under stress by upregulating molecular chaperones that help refold or degrade misfolded proteins. HSF1 activation involves its monomer-to-oligomer transition and binding to its recognition sequence: the heat shock elements (HSEs) on its target gene promoters. HSF1 activity declines with age as well as in neurodegenerative disorders (NDs) such as Parkinson's disease, highlighting the need for therapeutic strategies to restore its function. Azadiradione (AZD), a limonoid isolated from Azadirachta indica seeds, directly activates HSF1 in ce
