Headache is a frequent and clinically relevant symptom in patients undergoing cranial radiotherapy, most often reflecting treatment-induced structural and inflammatory changes such as cerebral edema or radiation-related brain injury. Differentiating secondary headache from primary disorders, particularly migraine, is essential for appropriate management. This review aims to examine the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying headache following cranial radiotherapy, evaluate current pharmacological and complementary treatment strategies and highlight key aspects of differential diagnosis with

BACKGROUND: In the current era of the global increase in autoimmune and inflammatory disorders, predominantly rheumatoid arthritis (RA), there is mounting interest in developing advanced, safe, and patient-compliant treatment strategies. Phytoconstituents have gained more attention in recent years as budding complementary medicines for RA. Among them, 3-Acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid (AKBA), derived from Boswellia serrata extract, is considered a promising phytoconstituent due to its anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic potential. However, due to its poor solubility, low bioavailability (less

The pathophysiology of different neurodegenerative illnesses is significantly influenced by the polarization regulation of microglia and macrophages. Traditional classifications of macrophage phenotypes include the pro-inflammatory M1 and the anti-inflammatory M2 phenotypes. Numerous studies demonstrated dynamic non-coding RNA modifications, which are catalyzed by microglia-induced neuroinflammation. Different nutraceuticals focus on the polarization of M1/M2 phenotypes of microglia and macrophages, offering a potent defense against neurodegeneration. Caeminaxin A, curcumin, aromatic-turmerone

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a severe immune-mediated neurological disease characterized by neuroinflammation, demyelination, and axonal degeneration in the central nervous system (CNS). This is frequently linked to motor abnormalities and cognitive impairments. The pathophysiological hallmarks of MS include inflammatory demyelination, axonal injury, white matter degeneration, and the development of CNS lesions that result in severe neuronal degeneration. Several studies suggested downregulation of nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor-2 (Nrf2)/Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) signaling is a causativ

Conventional therapy is commonly used for the treatment of inflammatory skin conditions, but undesirable effects, such as erythema, dryness, skin thinning, and resistance to treatment, may cause poor patient compliance. Therefore, patients may seek complementary treatment with herbal plant products including essential oils (EOs). This scoping review aims to generate a broad overview of the EOs used to treat inflammatory skin conditions, namely, acne vulgaris, dermatitis and eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea, in a clinical setting. The quality, efficacy, and safety of various EOs, as well as the w

Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) constitute a significant public health issue and a major source of disability and death in the United States and worldwide. TBIs are strongly associated with high morbidity and mortality rates, resulting in a host of negative health outcomes and long-term complications and placing a heavy financial burden on healthcare systems. One promising avenue for the prevention and treatment of brain injuries is the design of TBI-specific supplementation and dietary protocols centred around nutraceuticals and biochemical compounds whose mechanisms of action have been shown

Retinal diseases characterized by pathologic retinal angiogenesis are the leading causes of blindness worldwide. Although therapies directed toward vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) represent a significant step forward in the treatment of proliferative retinopathies, further improvements are needed. In the last few years, an intense research activity has focused around the use of herbal and traditional natural medicines as an alternative for slowing down the progression of proliferative retinopathies. In the present study, we investigated the antiangiogenic effects of acetyl-11-keto-β-

BACKGROUND: Leprosy (Hansen's disease) is a neglected tropical disease affecting millions of people globally. The combined formulations of dapsone, rifampicin and clofazimine (multidrug therapy, MDT) is only supportive in the early stage of detection, while "reemergence" is a significant problem. Thus, there is still a need to develop newer antileprosy molecules either of natural or semi-synthetic origin.
OBJECTIVES: The review intends to present the latest developments in the disease prevalence, available therapeutic interventions and the possibility of identifying new molecules from phytoex
