Sonographic presentation of rice bodies in subacromial-subdeltoid chronic bursitis.

BACKGROUND: subacromial-subdeltoid chronic bursitis is one of the main causes of shoulder pain syndrome. There are various causes of shoulder pain syndrome including chronic bursitis. The sonographic appearances of chronic bursitis vary from patient to patient, depending upon the underlying cause. However, rice bodies are the rare sonographic presentation among them. Rice bodies can be associated with atypical mycobacterial tenosynovitis, bursitis, mycobacterium tuberculosis and infections, but very rarely occur in the chronic subacromial-subdeltoid bursitis. Its unique sonographic presentatio

Rheumatoid subacromial-subdeltoid bursitis with rice bodies: A case report.

Subacromial-subdeltoid bursitis of a shoulder with rice bodies is relatively uncommon. The understanding of the pathogenesis of rice body formation is yet approximate only but some clinical conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, tuberculous arthritis, seronegative inflammatory arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis are related to it. We describe a case of a 44 years old female with subacromial-subdeltoid bursitis of her right shoulder with numerous rice bodies' formation as a presenting feature of rheumatoid arthritis. She underwent subacromial and subdeltoid bursectomy wit

Groin pain and iliopsoas bursitis: always a cause-effect relationship?

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Iliopsoas bursitis (IB) is characterized by inflammation and enlargement of the iliopsoas bursa. Although this condition is often associated with degenerative or inflammatory arthritis, infections, trauma, overuse and impingement syndromes, osteonecrosis and hip replacement, the pathogenesis of IB remains uncertain. We present a case report of IB associated with moderate hip osteoarthritis (HOA). METHODS: We present a case report of a 73-year-old man with chronic left hip pain that did not respond to conservative treatments. An ultrasonography examination of the left

Candida glabrata olecranon bursitis treated with bursectomy and intravenous caspofungin.

Orthopedic surgeons are becoming more involved in the care of patients with septic arthritis and bursitis caused by yeast species. This case report involves a middle-aged immunocompromised female who developed a Candida glabrata septic olecranon bursitis that developed after she received a corticosteroid injection in the olecranon bursa for presumed aseptic bursitis. Candida (Torulopsis) glabrata is the second most frequently isolated Candida species from the bloodstream in the United States. Treatment of olecranon bursitis in horses: 10 cases (1986-1993).

Medical records of 10 horses with olecranon bursitis were reviewed to examine treatments, evaluate a technique for en bloc resection of the bursa in standing horses, and determine outcome of the horses after treatment. Before admission, 6 horses had been treated by needle aspiration of fluid from the mass, followed by injection of corticosteroids. Subsequent treatment for 2 of these 6 horses included open drainage and packing of the cavity with gauze soaked in 7% iodine solution. None resolved after these treatments. After admission to the hospital, 5 horses were treated medically and 5 were t

[Bursitis iliopectinea--a rare differential diagnosis of painful inguinal swelling].

The syndrome of iliopectineal bursitis is an important differential diagnosis of a painful swelling in the inguinal region. Symptoms are local swelling and pain, radiation of pain along the femoral nerve, troubles of arterial or venous circulation and even dysuria or dysmenorrhoea in case the bursa penetrates into the pelvis. The diagnosis is established by conventional radiology (signs of osteoarthritis as one of the pathogenetic reasons), ultrasound (liquid mass lateral to the femoral vessels), punction (clear fluid, eventually synovial cells), contrast injection (dimension of the bursa and

Greater trochanteric pain syndrome (trochanteric bursitis) in low back pain.

The greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS) or trochanteric bursitis is a regional pain syndrome characterized by typical local tenderness over the trochanteric region. Recently this syndrome was found in hospital-referred, chronic low back pain (LBP) patients. To confirm the correlation between GTPS and LBP in different patient settings and to present quantitative data about associated clinical features, we prospectively evaluated consecutive LBP patients from a general practice (n = 40), an occupational health service (n = 124) and a rheumatology outpatient clinic (n = 40). GTPS was found

Olecranon bursitis related to calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate crystal deposition disease.

A case of olecranon bursitis in an 81-year-old patient is presented. Analysis of the bursal fluid revealed positive birefringent crystals; radiographs showed calcifications in the distal triceps tendon. A bursectomy was performed. X-ray diffraction analyses demonstrated calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate patterns in a subcutaneous "tophus" and in a specimen of the tendon. On histologic examination, there was a bursitis with positive birefringent crystals on the bursa's inner surface; histologic images of "chondrocalcinosis" were observed in and around the tendon. It is concluded that bursitis may

First reported case of phaeohyphomycotic bursitis due to Paraconiothyrium estuarinum.

A 51-year-old male presented with right knee swelling with persistent pain for the past two weeks. Radiograph of the knee showed no bone abnormalities. Bursectomy was performed and the aspirated fluid was sent for laboratory analysis. Gram staining revealed fungal filaments, and culture on Sabouraud's dextrose agar yielded blackish-brown pigmented fungal colonies. Histopathological examination showed slender, septate hyphae. PCR sequencing identified Paraconiothyrium estuarinum as the causative agent. The patient was treated with itraconazole for 3 months with regular follow-up, resulting in c

Factors associated with revision surgery for olecranon bursitis after bursectomy.

BACKGROUND: The primary aim of our study was to identify the factors associated with revision surgery after bursal excision in patients with olecranon bursitis. The secondary aims were to describe the revision rate after bursectomy and to assess which factors are associated with flap surgery after bursectomy and describe the most common complications after bursectomy of the olecranon bursa. METHODS: We included 191 adult patients with olecranon bursitis who underwent olecranon bursa excision between January 2002 and October 2018. Patients who were pregnant, patients with incomplete records of

Surgical treatment of septic subtendinous calcaneal bursitis in 2 cows.

Two cows were referred to our clinic with moderate to severe hindlimb lameness due to infected wounds over the lateral and caudal aspect of tuber calcanei (TC) with regional swelling, consistent with septic subtendinous calcaneal bursitis. Ultrasonography (7.5 MHz linear probe) revealed fibrinous/fibrino-purulent inflammatory bursal effusions in both cows, complete rupture of the superficial digital flexor tendon and a small, circumscribed, irregular and rough bone contour of the TC in case 2. Radiography revealed physiological findings in case 1, whereas there were osteomyelitis and later bon
