A rare clinical observation of chondrosarcoma metastasis into the abdominal cavity with a specific metastatic ascitic fluid is presented. Chondrosarcomas that occur as a result of malignant transformation of benign chondroma are quite rare. Even less often in the literature, cases of chondrosarcoma metastases are described, especially in a peritoneum with the presence of metastatic ascites. The article describes a case of metastatic ascites in a 38-year old patient with chondrosarcoma, which developed against the background of previously resected rib chords. The article describes the cytologic

Benign osseocartilaginous tumors of the spine are overall uncommon, representing between 1 and 13% of all primary bone tumors and less than 10% of all spinal tumors. Tumors in this category include osteoblastic lesions such as the related osteoid osteoma and osteoblastoma, and cartilage-forming lesions including osteochondroma, chondroma, and chondroblastoma. Aneurysmal bone cysts, giant cell tumors of bone, and eosinophilic granulomas also comprise benign tumors of the spine arising from bone. There is significant heterogeneity in the epidemiology, molecular biology, imaging features, and opt

Cartilaginous tumours of the larynx are rare. Chondrosarcomas represent the most common sarcoma involving this site. A series of seven patients with the diagnosis of chondrosarcoma of the larynx from the cancer registry at the University of Michigan Medical Center from 1975 to 1997 and one recent case from the Ann Arbor Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital were identified. One patient with a laryngeal chondroma was also included in the series. Pertinent clinical, pathologic, and therapeutic data were reviewed. In three of the nine patients, tumours involved the thyroid cartilage; the remain

This case report describes a 5-year-old female with fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP), a rare and debilitating genetic disorder characterized by progressive heterotopic ossification. Initially misdiagnosed as an "aggressive chondroma" after two surgical resections, the patient developed recurrent paravertebral and iliopsoas ossification, culminating in severe functional impairment. Genetic testing confirmed a de novo pathogenic variant in the ACVR1 gene (NM_001105.4:c.774G>T; p.Arg258Ser). Management with NSAIDs and glucocorticoids yielded significant symptomatic improvement. Large airway reconstruction is difficult and requires a flap that will mirror the tissue variety. The main challenge is to keep the reconstruction stable and prevent collapse. In this report, we present a laryngotracheal reconstruction with a buccal mucosa-prefabricated medial femoral condyle free flap, after chondroma excision in a 1-step procedure. Functional results are promising and were confirmed by endoscopy and computed tomography examination 12 months postoperatively. This reconstruction-with-prefabrication technique, among others, may be used in the reconstruction of different regions

Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of Morton neuromas is highly accurate. Morton neuromas are more conspicuous when the patient is prone positioned and the foot is plantar flexed than in the supine position with the toes pointing upward. MR imaging of Morton neuromas has a large influence on the diagnostic thinking and treatment plan of orthopedic foot surgeons. The most common differential diagnoses include intermetatarsal bursitis, stress fractures, and stress reactions. Some diagnoses (nodules associated with rheumatoid arthritis, synovial cyst, soft tissue chondroma, and plantar fibromatosis)

We reviewed and studied the histologic features of 23 cases of pseudocysts of auricular cartilage. Our aim was to determine and describe the histologic spectrum of this condition and to delineate the histologic differential diagnostic points. Lesions for which this condition has been mistaken include relapsing polychondritis, chondrodermatitis nodularis helicis, traumatic perichondritis, hemangioma, chondroma, angiosarcoma, and chondrosarcoma. The pathologist who is familiar with the histologic patterns of this condition usually can recognize it readily. When biopsy specimens are small, and th

INTRODUCTION: Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common laryngeal neoplasm and accounts for approximately 95% of all malignant neoplams of the larynx. However, various benign and malignant tumors and inflammatory diseases may affect the larynx.
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to analyze the clinical and imaging findings of non-squamous cell neoplasms and inflammatory diseases of the larynx.
METHODS: This retrospective study was conducted in 18 patients who were diagnosed with non-squamous cell carcinoma lesions of larynx at our institution between 2007-2017. Clinical symptoms, exami

In this review we set up the indications of treatment of vascular malformations (arteriovenous malformations, arteriovenous fistulas and cavernous angiomas), brain tumors (meningiomas, neurinomas, pituitary adenomas, craneofaryngiomas, metastases, gliomas, chondromas, craniopharingiomas and hemangioblastomas) with stereotaxic radiosurgery, and the application of this technique to functional neurosurgery. We assess the limitations of stereotaxic radiosurgery, basically those regarding to volume, proximity to critical anatomical structures and radiosensibility. The review of the literature has a

The authors present an epidemiological study of 585 primary bone neoplasms and tumor-like lesions in order to investigate their incidence and distribution according to age, sex and skeletal location. A statistical agreement between the pertinent literature and the collected data was found. In this series, the most common benign neoplasms were the osteochondroma (45.3%) followed by chondroma (19.6%). Among the intermediate and malignant neoplasms, osteosarcoma was the most frequent (30.0%) followed by myeloma (16.0%). Fibrous dysplasia accounted for 46.6% of all tumor-like lesions, followed by

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: Congenital cutaneous lesions containing mature cartilage are exceedingly rare and often of uncertain histogenesis.
CASE REPORT: A 17-year-old male with a lifelong left cheek nodule underwent complete excision and histopathologic examination. Microscopy revealed a deep dermal island of mature hyaline cartilage without atypia, associated epithelial components, or adnexal hyperplasia.
CONCLUSION: The findings represent ectopic cartilage of unclear etiology. Connective tissue nevus with cartilaginous differentiation and chondroma cutis are favored considerations. Complete

Cysts of the mandibular condyle are rare and can be difficult to diagnose and treat. Clinically, a simple bone cyst is asymptomatic and often discovered incidentally on routine radiographic examination. This report shows an atypical simple bone cyst occurring in the mandibular condyle showing recurrence after surgical curettage. Radiologically, this lesion involving the mandibular condyle should be distinguished from other similar lesions such as a chondroma, a central giant cell granuloma, and an aneurysmal bone cyst. Radiographic assessment was useful for forecasting the prognosis of a simpl

The anatomic singularities of the nail unit explain why bony tumors and osseous outgrowths of the distal phalanx quickly interfere with the nail apparatus. Osteochondromas (or exostosis) are benign osteocartilaginous outgrowths most commonly located on the hallux. They are by far the most common bony lesions affecting the nail unit. While frequently considered benign tumors, subungual exostoses are better regarded as reactional osseous outgrowths rather than true tumors. Enchondromas (better named chondromas) are intraosseous tumors whose location at the distal phalanx is rare. Large tumors ma

Synovial chondromatosis is a rare disease, especially in children. We report on a 12-year old girl who suffered twice a knee trauma. She then developed an arthritis of her right knee joint and finally showed all signs of synovial chondromatosis arthroscopically. Treatment consisted of removal of loose as well as stalked chondromatous bodies by means of arthroscopy. According to Milgram (1975) the evolution of the disease progresses through three stages, starting with synovial metaplasia producing chondromas which are then shed into the joint. Kay, Freemont and Davies (1989) doubt this theory.

Fifty-five peripheral pulmonary lesions in 46 patients were examined by computed tomography. The results were correlated with histologic diagnoses. The series comprised 26 bronchial carcinomas, 17 metastases, 4 chondromas, 5 tuberculomas and 3 echinacoccal cysts. The high resolution capacity of CT in the evaluation of macro pathologic pattern specially with the electronic image processing, with densitometry in regional interest is emphasised. Therefore cysts, fatty and other solid masses in the lung can be distinguished. Further more one can gain information of the underlying tissue on the bas

The etiology of the Carney's triad (gastrointestinal stromal tumors, pulmonary chondromas, and paragangliomas) is unknown, and only 57 cases have been reported since its identification in 1977. We report the clinical course of a female with the complete triad and some additional tumors. Bilateral vagal paragangliomas were treated surgically and with radiotherapy between the ages of 24 and 26 years. Subsequently she underwent surgery for a gastric leiomyosarcoma (27 years), a pleomorphic adenoma of the parotid gland (49 years) and a multifocal breast cancer with axillary spread (50 years). A ca

This article provides a comprehensive overview of benign non-odontogenic pathologies. Bone-derived lesions like osteoma, osteoid osteoma, osteoblastoma, and osteochondroma are discussed in detail, emphasizing their radiographic features, locations, and treatment strategies. Cartilage-derived lesions such as chondroma, chondroblastoma, and chondromyxoid fibroma are also examined, noting their typical presentation and management approaches. The article then delves into fibroconnective tissue lesions. Mesenchymal and vascular lesions are detailed regarding their clinical and radiographic characte

Ectomesenchymal chondromyxoid tumor (ECMT) is a rare tumor. Only 26 cases of ECMT have been reported, all occurred in the anterior tongue. We present a case of a 30-year-old male with a nodule in the hard palate, which was reported as ECMT on histopathology. The differential diagnosis considered included are extraskeletal myxoid chondroma, ECMT, pleomorphic adenoma, oral focal mucinosis, chondroid choristoma, and ossifying fibromyxoid tumor. After serial sections no other component was observed and a diagnosis of ECMT was made by exclusion. The patient is asymptomatic on follow up. A review of

Problems in diagnosis of bone tumors in routine laboratories concern very rare tumors, differentiation between chondroma and low grade chondrosarcoma, the recognition of lesions containing multinucleated giant cells, lesions with secondary cysts simulating iuvenile or aneurysmal bone cyst and sometimes the discrimination of callus from osteosarcoma. Real misdiagnoses are done in ossifying pseudotumors interpreted as osteosarcoma, metaphyseal fibrous defect confound with giant cell tumor and chondroblastoma misdiagnosed as giant cell tumor or osteosarcoma. All these mistakes are avoidable if th
