Climatic Correlates of Brucellosis Transmission in a Semi-Arid Region of Xinjiang, China, 2015-2025: A Maximum Entropy Modeling Study Within a One Health Framework.

More than 80% of global brucellosis cases occur in semi-arid regions; however, the climatic factors associated with these outbreaks remain poorly understood. This study investigated environmental correlates of brucellosis in a semi-arid region of Xinjiang, China. A maximum entropy (MaxEnt) model incorporating 19 bioclimatic variables, wind speed, solar radiation, and ruminant livestock inventory was applied to 1132 surveillance-confirmed human brucellosis cases from January 2015 to December 2025. Precipitation in the driest month (31.8%), wind speed (24.3%), and temperature seasonality (13.7%)

A bottom-up approach to model water quality changes along the Apulia region coastline: a Bayesian Network application to seagrass meadows under a changing climate.

Water quality (WQ) deterioration in marine-coastal areas (MCA) is among the main threats affecting socio-economic systems and ecosystem functioning, calling for urgent actions to preserve ecosystems' resilience. Nature-based Solutions (NBS) improve ecosystem resilience and biodiversity, transforming nature management while providing environmental and societal benefits. Yet, little is known on NBS capacity in reducing WQ deterioration. Understanding this nexus requires establishing functional relationships between marine ecosystems status and climatic and human pressures. The relationship betwe

Species-specific ecological niche modelling predicts different range contractions for Lutzomyia intermedia and a related vector of Leishmania braziliensis following climate change in South America.

BACKGROUND: Before 1996 the phlebotomine sand fly Lutzomyia neivai was usually treated as a synonym of the morphologically similar Lutzomyia intermedia, which has long been considered a vector of Leishmania braziliensis, the causative agent of much cutaneous leishmaniasis in South America. This report investigates the likely range changes of both sand fly species in response to a stabilisation climate change scenario (RCP4.5) and a high greenhouse gas emissions one (RCP8.5). METHODS: Ecological niche modelling was used to identify areas of South America with climates currently suitable for ea

Ecological Niche Modelling Predicts Southward Expansion of Lutzomyia (Nyssomyia) flaviscutellata (Diptera: Psychodidae: Phlebotominae), Vector of Leishmania (Leishmania) amazonensis in South America, under Climate Change.

Vector borne diseases are susceptible to climate change because distributions and densities of many vectors are climate driven. The Amazon region is endemic for cutaneous leishmaniasis and is predicted to be severely impacted by climate change. Recent records suggest that the distributions of Lutzomyia (Nyssomyia) flaviscutellata and the parasite it transmits, Leishmania (Leishmania) amazonensis, are expanding southward, possibly due to climate change, and sometimes associated with new human infection cases. We define the vector's climatic niche and explore future projections under climate cha

Improving the prediction of Phragmites australis marsh distribution by adding edaphic properties to climatic variables.

Soil properties have been widely shown to influence wetland vegetation distribution. However, the degree to which adding edaphic variables can improve climate-only models remains unclear. Here, we examine whether incorporating soil properties into climate-only Phragmites australis marsh distribution models (SDMs) can improve statistical performance and predictive power. The results show that including soil predictors significantly improved SDMs' performance compared to climate-only models (TSS: + 21.07%, Student's t-tests: t = 24.364, P < 0.01; AUC: + 8.51%, t = 27.209, P < 0.01). On average,

A systematic review of dengue outbreak prediction models: Current scenario and future directions.

Dengue is among the fastest-spreading vector-borne infectious disease, with outbreaks often overwhelm the health system and result in huge morbidity and mortality in its endemic populations in the absence of an efficient warning system. A large number of prediction models are currently in use globally. As such, this study aimed to systematically review the published literature that used quantitative models to predict dengue outbreaks and provide insights about the current practices. A systematic search was undertaken, using the Ovid MEDLINE, EMBASE, Scopus and Web of Science databases for publ

Amblyomma ticks and future climate: Range contraction due to climate warming.

Ticks of the Amblyomma cajennense species complex are important vectors of spotted fever in Latin America. Environmental conditions determine the geographic distribution of ticks, such that climate change could influence the distribution of tick-borne diseases. This study aimed to analyze the potential geographic distribution of A. cajennense complex ticks in a Brazil region under present-day and future climate models, assuming dispersal limitations and non-evolutionary adaptation of these tick populations to climate warming. Records of A. cajennense sensu stricto (s.s.) and Amblyomma sculptum

Thermal Vulnerability of Reef Fish and Implications for Subsistence Fisheries Throughout the Caribbean.

Dual biodiversity and climate crises have exacerbated declines in global fisheries, resulting in food insecurity for communities that depend on subsistence fishing. As fish populations change and shift their geographic distributions under a changing environment, long-term planning of fisheries management becomes critical for ensuring food security. Here, we first present physiologically informed species distribution models (pSDM) of seven finfish species in the Caribbean that are important for subsistence in some coastal areas. These models identified areas at risk of climate-driven declines a

Principle-based adept predictions of global warming from climate mean states.

Distinguishing anthropogenic warming from natural variability and reducing uncertainty in global-warming projections continue to present challenges. Here, we introduce a novel principle-based framework for predicting global warming from climate mean states that is based solely on carbon-dioxide-increasing scenarios without running climate models and relying on statistical trend analysis. By applying this framework to the climate mean state of 1980-2000, we accurately capture the subsequent global warming (0.403 K predicted versus 0.414 K observed) and polar warming amplification patterns.
