18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose-Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (FDG PET/CT) in the Characterization of Massive Cardiac Infiltration by Peripheral T-cell Lymphoma, Not Otherwise Specified (PTCL-NOS).

Peripheral T-cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified, is an aggressive and heterogeneous neoplasm with high metabolic activity and potential for extranodal infiltration. Cardiac involvement is exceptional and may present with nonspecific symptoms or abnormalities of the conduction system. We present the case of a 41-year-old patient with constitutional symptoms and complete atrioventricular block, in whom cardiac magnetic resonance imaging identified an infiltrative mass involving the right atrium and adjacent myocardial structures. 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose-Positron Emission Tomography/Computed T

Association of High-resolution Peripheral Quantitative Computed Tomography (HR-pQCT) bone microarchitectural parameters with previous clinical fracture in older men: The Osteoporotic Fractures in Men (MrOS) study.

High-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT) assesses both volumetric bone mineral density (vBMD) and trabecular and cortical microarchitecture. However, studies of the association of HR-pQCT parameters with fracture history have been small, predominantly limited to postmenopausal women, often performed limited adjustment for potential confounders including for BMD, and infrequently assessed strength or failure measures. We used data from the Osteoporotic Fractures in Men (MrOS) study, a prospective cohort study of community-dwelling men aged ≥65 years, to evaluate the

The accuracy of peripheral skeletal assessment at the radius in estimating femoral bone density as measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry: a comparative study of single-photon absorptiometry and computed tomography.

OBJECTIVES: One of the latest developments in bone densitometry is peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT), a method which allows the separate determination of cortical and trabecular bone mineral density (BMD) in the peripheral skeleton. This study was designed to compare the relative abilities of single-photon absorptiometry (SPA) and pQCT to reflect BMD of the proximal femur as measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), an established predictor of osteoporotic hip fracture risk. DESIGN: Cross-sectional study. SUBJECTS: A well-defined community-based sample of 129 skele

Diagnosing Left Ventricular Assist Device Infection Using [ 18 F]Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography: Central Versus Peripheral Patterns and Bloodstream Infection Risk.

Diagnosing infections related to left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) is challenging due to poor accessibility and imaging artifacts, particularly when central components are involved. We investigated whether fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose ([ 18 F]FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) improves the diagnosis of bloodstream infection (BSI) compared with clinical parameters alone. Sixty-one patients with suspected LVAD infection underwent PET/CT between 2016 and 2022. Fluorodeoxyglucose uptake at the LVAD exit site, driveline, inflow/outflow cannulas, and pump accordin

High-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography imaging and bone biomarker characteristics of patients with ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack-baseline analysis of the Post-stroke Osteopathy study.

UNLABELLED: Stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) leads to unfavorable structural changes in the bones. The underlying pathophysiological process is unclear. We provide a detailed characterization of the structural and biochemical properties of bone in a stroke/TIA cohort. Our findings lay the foundation for a comprehensive understanding of post-stroke osteopathy and its clinical implications. PURPOSE: Patients who have suffered a stroke or transient ischemic attack are at high risk of fractures, which increase mortality and reduce health-related quality of life. Previous studies showed t

Familial determinants of bone health parameters- a dual X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT)-based parent and offspring study in rural Indian children.

BACKGROUND: Skeletal health relationships in children and parents have been investigated over the years with contradictory results and often without accounting for the influence of modifiable factors. Limited data exist on sex specific relationships using advanced techniques like peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT), especially in populations with generationally insufficient calcium intake, where nutritional insufficiency, gender differences and environmental constraints may override and influence heritability trends. We examined the effect of parental phenotype and shared enviro

Fracture risk based on high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography measures does not vary with age in older adults-the bone microarchitecture international consortium prospective cohort study.

Fracture risk increases with lower areal bone mineral density (aBMD); however, aBMD-related estimate of risk may decrease with age. This may depend on technical limitations of 2-dimensional (2D) dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) which are reduced with 3D high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT). Our aim was to examine whether the predictive utility of HR-pQCT measures with fracture varies with age. We analyzed associations of HR-pQCT measures at the distal radius and distal tibia with two outcomes: incident fractures and major osteoporotic fractures. We censor

A low-cost, wireless near-infrared spectroscopy device detects the presence of lower extremity atherosclerosis as measured by computed tomographic angiography and characterizes walking impairment in peripheral artery disease.

BACKGROUND: Patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) who experience intermittent claudication report a range of symptoms. Patients with symptoms other than classically described intermittent claudication may be at the highest risk for functional decline and mobility loss. Therefore, technologies allowing for characterization of PAD severity are desirable. Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) allows for measurements of muscle heme oxygen saturation (StO2) during exercise. We hypothesized lower extremities affected by PAD would exhibit distinct NIRS profiles as measured by a low-cost, wireless

Assessment of 3-month changes in bone microstructure under anti-TNFα therapy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis using high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT).

BACKGROUND: Although one study showed minimal progression of erosions in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) one year after TNFα inhibition therapy, no studies have investigated very early bone changes after initiation of anti-TNFα treatment. We investigated the effects of 3-month anti-TNFα treatment on bone erosion progression and bone microarchitecture in RA patients using high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT). METHODS: Patients with RA (n = 27) (17 in the anti-TNFα and 10 in the MTX-only group) underwent assessment of disease activity score in 28 joints

Peripheral B cell immune dysregulation genetically contributes to stage-dependent neuroinflammation and identifies priority therapeutic targets in Parkinson's disease: a computational integration of Mendelian randomization and single-cell transcriptomics.

BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease (PD) lacks reliable peripheral biomarkers and disease-modifying therapies. Although peripheral B-cell alterations have been observed in PD, whether genetically predicted B-cell gene expression contributes to PD risk and can nominate candidate therapeutic targets remains unclear. METHODS: We established a computational framework integrating two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) based on B-cell subtype-specific sc-eQTLs (OneK1K) and PD GWAS (IPDGC; 33,674 cases/449,056 controls), Bayesian colocalization with DICE and FinnGen replication, exploratory pseudobulk

Effects of achieving simple disease activity index remission on joint space outcomes progression in early rheumatoid arthritis: an exploratory study using high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography.

BACKGROUND: Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disease with progressive joint destruction resulting in functional loss. High-resolution peripheral quantitative CT (HR-pQCT) is a novel technique for detailed volumetric assessment of joint space morphology and bone erosions. We hypothesized that effective control of inflammation in early rheumatoid arthritis (ERA) patients who can achieve sustained simple disease activity index (SDAI) remission will have less progression of joint damage and functional loss than patients who cannot achieve sustained SDAI remission (SDI). OBJECTIVES:

Correlation of quiescent-interval single-shot (QISS) magnetic resonance angiography (MRA), computed tomography angiography (CTA) and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) for peripheral arterial disease (PAD) assessment.

BACKGROUND: Cross-sectional imaging methods such as computed tomography angiography (CTA) and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) are widely used for the assessment of peripheral arteries in patients with chronic limbthreatening ischemia (CLTI) or claudication. Given the limitations of CTA in evaluating heavily calcified vessels, we aimed to determine whether quiescent-interval single-shot (QISS) MRA provides better diagnostic agreement with digital subtraction angiography (DSA).
