Topic-specific living databases of clinical trials: A scoping review of public databases.

INTRODUCTION: Conducting systematic reviews of clinical trials is time-consuming and resource-intensive. One potential solution is to design databases that are continuously and automatically populated with clinical trial data from harmonised and structured datasets. This scoping review aimed to identify and map publicly available, continuously updated, topic-specific databases of clinical trials. METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, the preprint servers medRxiv, arXiv, Open Science Framework, and Google. We characterised each database using seven predefined features (access mod

An enhanced framework for automated vehicle crash severity prediction under unobserved heterogeneity using natural language processing and data augmentation.

OBJECTIVE: Autonomous vehicle (AV) crashes continue to occur, indicating the need for a comprehensive understanding of their characteristics to support safety management in future mixed-traffic environments. Previous studies employing text mining or rule extraction have faced limitations in generalizing findings due to small, heterogeneous datasets and severe class imbalance in crash severity levels. To address these gaps, this article develops an integrated framework that combines clustering, latent important topic of crash pattern, data augmentation to improve severe crash prediction using A

Assessing the Heterogeneity of Complaints Related to Tinnitus and Hyperacusis from an Unsupervised Machine Learning Approach: An Exploratory Study.

INTRODUCTION: Subjective tinnitus (ST) and hyperacusis (HA) are common auditory symptoms that may become incapacitating in a subgroup of patients who thereby seek medical advice. Both conditions can result from many different mechanisms, and as a consequence, patients may report a vast repertoire of associated symptoms and comorbidities that can reduce dramatically the quality of life and even lead to suicide attempts in the most severe cases. The present exploratory study is aimed at investigating patients' symptoms and complaints using an in-depth statistical analysis of patients' natural na

Utilizing a responsive web portal for studying disc tracing agreement in retinal images.

Glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness worldwide whose detection is based on multiple factors, including measuring the cup to disc ratio, retinal nerve fiber layer and visual field defects. Advances in image processing and machine learning have allowed the development of automated approached for segmenting objects from fundus images. However, to build a robust system, a reliable ground truth dataset is required for proper training and validation of the model. In this study, we investigate the level of agreement in properly detecting the retinal disc in fundus images using an online portal bu

Parameter-Efficient Fine-Tuning in Spectral Domain for Point Cloud Learning.

Recently, leveraging pre-training techniques to enhance point cloud models has become a prominent research topic. However, existing approaches typically require full fine-tuning of pre-trained models to achieve satisfactory performance on downstream tasks, which is storage-intensive and computationally demanding. To address this issue, we propose a novel Parameter-Efficient Fine-Tuning (PEFT) method for point cloud, called PointGST (Point cloud Graph Spectral Tuning). PointGST freezes the pre-trained model and introduces a lightweight, trainable Point Cloud Spectral Adapter (PCSA) for fine-tun

Patient level dataset to study the effect of COVID-19 in people with Multiple Sclerosis.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an inflammatory autoimmune disease of the central nervous system, causing increased vulnerability to infections and disability among young adults. Ever since the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infections, there have been concerns among people with MS (PwMS) about the potential interactions between various disease-modifying therapies and COVID-19. The COVID-19 in MS Global Data Sharing Initiative (GDSI) was initiated in 2020 with the aim of addressing these concerns. This paper focuses on the

Impact of deep learning model uncertainty on manual corrections to MRI-based auto-segmentation in prostate cancer radiotherapy.

BACKGROUND: Deep learning (DL)-based organ segmentation is increasingly used in radiotherapy. While methods exist to generate voxel-wise uncertainty maps from DL-based auto-segmentation models, these maps are rarely presented to clinicians. PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of DL-generated uncertainty maps on experienced radiation oncologists during the manual correction of DL-based auto-segmentation for prostate radiotherapy. METHODS: Two nnUNet DL models were trained with 10-fold cross-validation on a dataset of 434 patient cases undergoing ultra-hypofractionated MRI-only ra

Prompt-guided consistency learning for multi-label classification with incomplete labels.

Addressing insufficient supervision and improving model generalization are essential for multi-label classification with incomplete annotations, i.e., partial and single positive labels. Recent studies incorporate pseudo-labels to provide additional supervision and enhance model generalization. However, the noise in pseudo-labels generated by the model tends to accumulate, resulting in confirmation bias during training. Self-correction methods, commonly used approaches for mitigating confirmation bias, rely on model predictions but remain susceptible to confirmation bias caused by visual confu

Fast and efficient correction for population stratification in multi-locus genome-wide association studies.

Reducing false discoveries caused by population stratification (PS) has always been a challenge in genome-wide association studies (GWAS). The current literature established several single marker approaches including genomic control (GC), EIGENSTRAT and generalized linear mixed model association test (GMMAT) and multi-marker methods such as LASSO mixed model (LASSOMM). However, the single-marker methods require prespecifying an arbitrary p value threshold in the selection process, likely resulting in suboptimal precision or recall. On the other hand, it appears that LASSOMM is extremely comput

Predicting language treatment response in bilingual aphasia using neural network-based patient models.

Predicting language therapy outcomes in bilinguals with aphasia (BWA) remains challenging due to the multiple pre- and poststroke factors that determine the deficits and recovery of their two languages. Computational models that simulate language impairment and treatment outcomes in BWA can help predict therapy response and identify the optimal language for treatment. Here we used the BiLex computational model to simulate the behavioral profile of language deficits and treatment response of a retrospective sample of 13 Spanish-English BWA who received therapy in one of their languages. Testing a convolutional neural network-based hippocampal segmentation method in a stroke population.

As stroke mortality rates decrease, there has been a surge of effort to study poststroke dementia (PSD) to improve long-term quality of life for stroke survivors. Hippocampal volume may be an important neuroimaging biomarker in poststroke dementia, as it has been associated with many other forms of dementia. However, studying hippocampal volume using MRI requires hippocampal segmentation. Advances in automated segmentation methods have allowed for studying the hippocampus on a large scale, which is important for robust results in the heterogeneous stroke population. However, most of these auto

Risk of extracolonic cancers for people with biallelic and monoallelic mutations in MUTYH.

Germline mutations in the DNA base excision repair gene MUTYH are known to increase a carrier's risk of colorectal cancer. However, the risks of other (extracolonic) cancers for MUTYH mutation carriers are not well defined. We identified 266 probands (91% Caucasians) with a MUTYH mutation (41 biallelic and 225 monoallelic) from the Colon Cancer Family Registry. Mutation status, sex, age and histories of cancer from their 1,903 first- and 3,255 second-degree relatives were analyzed using modified segregation analysis conditioned on the ascertainment criteria. Compared with incidences for the ge
