Class II treatment in early mixed dentition with the eruption guidance appliance: effects and long-term stability.

OBJECTIVES: Our aim was to analyse dentoskeletal effects and long-term stability of Class II treatment carried out with an eruption guidance appliance (EGA) in early mixed dentition. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixty-five Class II patients (38 females and 27 males), treated with an EGA in early mixed dentition, were compared with 58 children (26 females and 32 males) with untreated Class II malocclusion. The mean age in the treatment group at the start (T1) and end of treatment (T2) was 5.4 years (±0.4) and 8.5 years (±0.9), respectively, and at the final examination in the early permanent dentiti

Growth changes of general and dental health status in Taiwanese children from mixed to early permanent dentition.

For this study, the general and dental health status of 463 Taiwanese children aged 9 to 12 years was evaluated. There were statistically significant increases in all measurements from Hellman's dental developmental stages IIIA to IVA except for the maximum mandibular protrusive, right lateral, and left lateral movements. Maximum bite forces had diminished in stage IIIB. Boys had larger maximum bite forces and hand-grip forces than did girls after stage IIIC. The proportion of subjects with TMD signs or symptoms increased to 60% by stage IVA.

Window decompression surgery for the treatment of large mandibular dentigerous cysts in the mixed dentition stage: a case report.

Dentigerous cyst is a common type of odontogenic jawbone cyst in clinical practice, often involving immature permanent tooth germ in children. Traditional cyst curettage may cause damage to the developing permanent tooth germ and surrounding important anatomical structures. This article reports a case of a large mandibular dentigerous cyst in a 9-year-old female child, which was treated with negative pressure drainage through window decompression surgery. During the operation, a lateral opening drainage tube was prepared and fixed with flowable resin. The cyst significantly shrank 6 months aft

A Review of 30 Years of Alveolar Bone Grafting in the Mixed Dentition Using a Standardized Protocol in Western Australia.

BACKGROUND: Outcomes for a continuously applied alveolar bone grafting protocol, established in 1982, are reported and compared to previously published outcomes from the authors' unit and elsewhere. METHODS: A descriptive, retrospective cohort study of alveolar bone grafting outcomes at a tertiary referral cleft center was performed. Records of all alveolar bone grafts between 2002 and 2014 were reviewed (224 grafts). Three-year postoperative periapical radiographs were evaluated using the Bergland, Kindelan, and standardized way to assess graft scores by an external rater. Incomplete records

Is the early mixed dentition dental arch relationship related to the anteroposterior alignment of the maxillary segments in infants with CUCLP?

OBJECTIVE: Midface retrusion is a concern in patients with complete unilateral cleft lip and palate (CUCLP). Maxillary segment alignment may influence the prognosis after corrective surgery. This study assessed the association between maxillary segment alignment and interarch relationship observed in the early mixed dentition. The null hypothesis was that there is no relation between the initial alignment of cleft segments and the width of the cleft in the infant, and the early mixed dentition interarch relationship. SETTING AND SAMPLE POPULATION: The sample consists of 352 children with CUCL
