The aim of the study was to demonstrate the effects of dopaminergic drugs on 2,4-dinitrofluorbenzene (DNFB) induced experimental inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in previously sensitized BALB/c mice. The number and extent of ulcerations and erosions, the intensity of haemorrhages, oedema, and accumulation of neutrophils and eosinophils within colonic lamina propria and submucosa were scored and statistically evaluated. The 180 BALB/c mice, were allocated into three equal groups. The mice in the first experimental group were treated with domperidone (DP), a peripheral dopamine (DA) antagonist.

We describe a patient who suffered from ophthalmic trigeminal neuralgia as an isolated symptom of a noninvasive pituitary tumor. Bromocriptine appeared to provoke the attacks within hours. This provocation could be prevented by domperidone. After adenomectomy, both spontaneous and induced attacks disappeared. Acute transient cell swelling may be the mechanism by which bromocriptine induced the neuralgic attacks.

Prolactin (PRL) levels were studied in 5 women with Sheehan syndrome before and after metoclopramide (MCP, 10 mg i.v.) and domperidone (MOT, 10 mg i.v.) stimulation. The levels of PRL were measured by RIA method. The obtained results were compared with control group (10 female volunteers). BACKGROUND: Dyspeptic symptoms are commonly reported complaints in clinical practice and are mostly the result of functional disorders. Empirical treatment with histamine H2-receptor blockers or gastroprokinetics for 2-4 weeks has frequently been proposed as first line management of these patients. Pharmacologic therapy used during acute variceal bleeding may control the bleeding episode, minimized transfusion requirements, and prevent early rebleeding. Several options for pharmacologic therapy exist in this setting and include: vasopressin in combination with nitroglycerin, terlipressin, somatostatin, and octreotide. Metoclopramide and domperidone may also be useful but require additional study. At present, octreotide, administered intravenously as soon as variceal bleeding is suspected, is favored.
