In recent years, hysteroscopic resection has become the treatment of choice for submucous fibroids. Technological advances enabled the use of bipolar resectoscopes, in the same way as new bipolar instruments used in laparoscopy or open surgery. Spastic hypertonus (muscle over-activity due to exaggerated stretch reflexes) often develops in stroke and spinal cord injury (SCI) survivors and individuals who suffer from multiple sclerosis. In previous published experiments we have shown that Direct Current (DC), when used to lesion nerves, can attenuate muscle force in a gradual manner, and this attenuation can last for several months. In this paper we present initial experimental results that profile the current required to cause controlled nerve ablation.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of our study was to evaluate the therapeutic effectiveness of loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) in Greek patients with vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VAIN) and history of cervical cancer.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between January 2002 and January 2009, eight women with histologically confirmed VAIN and history of cervical cancer were included in our study. For the LEEP procedure we used a high frequency Electrosurgery Unit with at least 80 W output.
RESULTS: Complete response rate, at 12 months of follow-up, was 75%. Recurrence rate, at 12 months of follow-up

A prospective study of 500 consecutive cholecystectomies was initiated with the introduction of laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy was attempted in 96% of patients presenting with primary gallbladder disease and was completed in 95%. There were no deaths or bile duct injuries. Two patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy were transfused for postoperative bleeding, and only one patient required reoperation for any reason. A prospective study showed reduced operating time (20 minutes) and patient charges ($546) using electrosurgical dissection compared with laser.
