Leveraging emotional intelligence to alleviate mental health: protocol of a cluster randomised controlled trial among parents of children with neurodevelopmental disorders in Bangladesh.

BACKGROUND: Parents of children with neurodevelopmental disorders often experience high levels of stress that impact their mental health, yet few interventions focus on their well-being. To address this gap, we developed a mental health intervention based on emotional intelligence (EI), designed for delivery in healthcare settings. We hypothesise that enhancing EI can reduce parenting stress and improve psychological well-being. This study aims to assess the effectiveness, cost-effectiveness and feasibility of this EI-based intervention in Bangladesh. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This hybrid type 1

The Relationship Between Emotional Intelligence and the Risk of Eating Disorders Among Adolescents: The Mediating Role of Motivation for the Use of Social Media and Moderation of Perceived Social Support.

Trait Emotional Intelligence (Trait EI) is considered a protective factor for adolescents' psychological well-being and may play a critical role in mitigating the risk of developing eating disorders (EDs), particularly in the context of pervasive social media use. However, the psychological mechanisms underlying this relationship, such as the driving factors of social media engagement, remain underexplored. This cross-sectional study aimed to examine whether motivating factors for social media use mediate the relationship between Trait EI and ED risk, as well as whether perceived social suppor

An intelligent context-aware facial emotion recognition system for hearing-impaired individuals using large language models and neural network-based feature fusion.

Facial emotion recognition (FER) plays a vital role in understanding human behavior and communications, with applications in human-computer interaction, surveillance, healthcare, and multimedia content analysis. Emotion recognition is challenging as it necessitates capturing and analysing subtle variations in facial expressions together with dynamic speech variations. Hearing impairment in youngsters and children has significant effects on social, emotional, and behavioural growth. Communication problems could affect the social and emotional improvement of a hearing-impaired individual. Emotio

A cross-cultural comparison of the roles of emotional intelligence, metacognition, and negative coping for health-related quality of life in German versus Pakistani patients with chronic heart failure.

OBJECTIVES: Low emotional intelligence (EI) may predispose individuals to applying maladaptive coping strategies. This may maintain anxious worrying, which is highly prevalent in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) and may affect mental (MCS) and physical component summaries (PCS) of health-related quality of life (HRQoL). DESIGN: The current study is a cross-sectional and cross-cultural survey. METHODS: N = 200 outpatients with CHF were recruited at cardiology institutes in Germany and Pakistan and assessed with self-report questionnaires. RESULTS: Path analysis (χ2 (4) = 7.59, p = .

Intervention through an intelligent technological platform for socio-emotional development and health promotion in adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (emoTICare): A study protocol for randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: During adolescence, individuals face various challenges that require adequate psychosocial and emotional adjustment. Additionally, the presence of a chronic illness during this stage, such as Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM), introduces additional medical and psychological needs, which can increase vulnerability. In this context, serious games emerge as a promising tool to address educational and psychoemotional aspects while maintaining the motivation and playability typical of a video game. Currently, no technological tool simultaneously addresses both the educational and psycho-e

The effect of face masks on confusion of emotional expressions.

While the use of personal protective equipment protects healthcare workers against transmissible disease, it also obscures the lower facial regions that are vital for transmitting emotion signals. Previous studies have found that face coverings can impair recognition of emotional expressions, particularly those that rely on signals from the lower regions of the face, such as disgust. Recent research on the individual differences that may influence expression recognition, such as emotional intelligence, has shown mixed results. In the current investigation, we conducted two experiments to build
