The interplay between food insecurity and family factors in relation to disordered eating in adolescence.

This study examined the association between food insecurity and both binge eating and unhealthy weight-control behaviors (UWCBs) and assessed whether such associations differ by factors within the family environment. Data were collected from a diverse sample of adolescents (Mage = 14.5 years; 54.1% female) and their parents/guardians (N = 2137 dyads) participating in EAT 2010 (Eating and Activity over Time). Food-insecure adolescents were more likely to report binge eating (prevalence ratio [PR] = 1.94; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.41-2.69) and UWCBs (PR = 1.34; 95% CI: 1.21-1.49) than food

Genome-Wide Identification of Aqp Family Related to Spermatogenesis in Turbot (Scophthalmus maximus).

The development and maturation of sperm entails intricate metabolic processes involving water molecules, amino acids, hormones, and various substances. Among these processes, the role of aquaporins (aqps) in the testis is crucial. Turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) is a significant marine flatfish species in China; however, natural egg laying in females is not feasible under cultured conditions. Consequently, artificial insemination becomes necessary, requiring the retrieval of sperm and eggs through artificial methods. In this study, we combined genomic, transcriptomics, RT-qPCR, computer-assisted

Clinicoradiologic data of familial cerebral cavernous malformation with age-related disease burden.

OBJECTIVE: Familial cerebral cavernous malformation (FCCM) is an autosomal dominant disease induced by loss-of-function mutations in three CCM genes, KRIT1, CCM2, and PDCD10. However, previous studies paid little attention to analyzing the radiologic features and age-related disease burden according to the genes. Therefore, we retrospectively reviewed the genetic tests of our center's clinical FCCM patients. METHOD: This study investigated clinical FCCM patients with multiple lesions or a family history of CCMs who underwent the FCCM gene (KRTI1, CCM2, and PDCD10) panel test. The clinical, ge

Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy with Lobar Haemorrhages and CAA-Related Inflammation in an Indian Family.

INTRODUCTION: Cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) is a common cause of lobar intracerebral haemorrhage. Sporadic CAA is far more common than hereditary CAA (h-CAA). Familial CAA has not yet been described from India. CASE REPORT: Two elderly Indian women (a mother and daughter) presented 7 years apart with features of CAA. The mother had presented with features of CAA-related inflammation that responded to steroids, whereas the daughter presented with features of CAA-related intracerebral haemorrhage. Clinical exome testing did not reveal any known genetic variants associated with h-CAA. DISCU

Clinicopathological features in two families with MARS-related Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.

Mutations in MARS gene cause dominant Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) 2U. The aim of this study is to investigate phenotypic heterogeneities and peripheral neuropathology of MARS-related CMT patients. We identified a heterozygous p. R199Q mutation and an already reported heterozygous p. P800T mutation of MARS gene in two unrelated families using targeted next-generation sequencing. The first pedigree comprised three patients over three generations and the second pedigree comprised two patients over two generations. In addition of an asymptomatic carrier in the second pedigree, all patients p

Report of 2 Pediatric Cases With Li-Fraumeni Syndrome Related Malignancy in a Family.

Li-Fraumeni syndrome (LFS) is a rare inherited disease characterized by a high and early-onset cancer risk. A cancer surveillance program is important to reduce cancer-related morbidity and mortality in individuals with LFS. We report 2 pediatric cases with LFS-related malignancy in a family. Eight-year-old elder brother was diagnosed with adrenocortical carcinoma and was found to have a heterozygous missense germline mutation c.736A>G: p.Met246Val in the TP53 gene. Cancer screening led to the diagnosis of rhabdomyosarcoma at a curable stage in his 2-year-old younger brother. Comprehensive sur

The familial risk of infection-related hospitalization in children: A population-based sibling study.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the risk of severe childhood infections within families, we conducted a sibling analysis in a population-based cohort study with genealogical linkage. We investigated the sibling risk of hospitalization with common infections, a marker of severity. We hypothesized that having siblings hospitalized for infection would increase the proband's risk of admission with infection. STUDY DESIGN: We used population data on Western Australian live-born singletons and their siblings between 1980 and 2014. Measures of infection were infection-related hospitalizations from discharge di

Technologies of the Social: Family Constellation Therapy and the Remodeling of Relational Selfhood in China and Mexico.

In this article, we investigate how an increasingly popular therapeutic modality, family constellation therapy (FCT), functions simultaneously as a technology of the self (Foucault, Technologies of the self: a seminar with Michel Foucault, University of Massachusetts Press, Amherst, 1988) as well as what we here call a "technology of the social." In FCT, the self is understood as an assemblage of ancestral relationships that often creates problems in the present day. Healing this multi-generational self involves identifying and correcting hidden family dynamics in high-intensity group sessions

MYH7 Gene-Related Mutation p.V878L Identified in a Chinese Family with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is one of the most common inherited cardiovascular diseases and possesses a high risk for sudden cardiac death. Although mutations in more than 20 genes have been reported to be associated with HCM thus far, the genetic backgrounds of most HCM patients are not fully understood. We performed a genetic analysis in a Chinese family that presented with HCM using next-generation sequencing (NGS). Clinical data, family histories, and blood samples were collected from the proband and family members. Five patients showed typical clinical symptoms of HCM. One subject w

A population-based family clustering study of tic-related obsessive-compulsive disorder.

In the latest edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) included a new "tic-related" specifier. However, strong evidence supporting tic-related OCD as a distinct subtype of OCD is lacking. This study investigated whether, at the population level, tic-related OCD has a stronger familial load than non-tic-related OCD. From a cohort of individuals born in Sweden between 1967 and 2007 (n = 4,085,367; 1257 with tic-related OCD and 20,975 with non-tic-related OCD), we identified all twins, full siblings, maternal and paternal ha

A nonsynonymous mutation in the WFS1 gene in a Finnish family with age-related hearing impairment.

Wolfram syndrome (WS) is caused by recessive mutations in the Wolfram syndrome 1 (WFS1) gene. Sensorineural hearing impairment (HI) is a frequent feature in WS and, furthermore, certain mutations in WFS1 cause nonsyndromic dominantly inherited low-frequency sensorineural HI. These two phenotypes are clinically distinct indicating that WFS1 is a reasonable candidate for genetic studies in patients with other phenotypes of HI. Here we have investigated, whether the variation in WFS1 has a pathogenic role in age-related hearing impairment (ARHI). WFS1 gene was investigated in a population sample
