Sulfation and carboxymethylation of Citrus medica 'Fingered' polysaccharides: Physicochemical properties and protective effects against LPS-induced intestinal barrier injury in Caco-2 cells.

It is well known that Citrus medica 'Fingered' is an important industrial crop resource. Our previous study found that Citrus medica 'Fingered' polysaccharides via hot water extraction (HWE-CP) can alleviate ulcerative colitis by enhancing intestinal barrier and regulating intestinal flora. However, the large molecular weight of HWE-CP (35.15 kDa) limits its absorption by intestinal cells, thereby restricting its protective effects on the intestinal barrier. In this study, HWE-CP was chemically modified to obtain sulfated derivatives (S-HWE-CP) and carboxymethylated derivatives (C-HWE-CP). Sub

Impact of Ring Finger Protein 20 and Its Downstream Regulation on Renal Tubular Injury in a Unilateral Nephrectomy Mouse Model Fed a High-Fat Diet.

Abnormal lipid metabolism increases the relative risk of kidney disease in patients with a single kidney. Using transcriptome analysis, we investigated whether a high-fat diet leads to abnormalities in lipid metabolism and induces kidney cell-specific damage in unilateral nephrectomy mice. Mice with unilateral nephrectomy fed a high-fat diet for 12 weeks exhibited progressive renal dysfunction in proximal tubules, including lipid accumulation, vacuolization, and cell damage. Ring finger protein 20 (RNF20) is a ligase of nuclear receptor corepressor of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor

A New Rerouting Technique for the Extensor Pollicis Longus in Palliative Treatment for Wrist and Finger Extension Paralysis Resulting From Radial Nerve and C5C6C7 Root Injury.

Wrist and finger extension paralysis is a consequence of an injury to the radial nerve or the C5C6C7 roots. Despite these 2 different levels of lesions, palliative treatment for this type of paralysis depends on the same tendon transfers. A large majority of the patients are able to compensate for a deficiency of the extension of the wrist and fingers. However, a deficiency in the opening of the first web space, which could be responsible for transfers to the abductor pollicis longus, the extensor pollicis brevis, and the extensor pollicis longus (EPL), frequently exists. The aim of this work

Zinc finger CCCH-type containing 13-mediated N6-methyladenosine methylation mitigates endothelial injury in venous thrombosis by inhibiting elevated mitochondrial fission.

BACKGROUND: Endothelial injury is the core factor of venous thrombosis. N6-methyladenosine (m6A) plays a critical role in metabolism and cellular processes. Moreover, the balance of mitochondrial dynamics is essential in regulating cellular growth, apoptosis, and mobility. However, the roles of m6A modification and mitochondrial dynamics in regulating venous endothelial cells remains elusive. METHODS: Levels of m6A were evaluated by m6A dot blot and quantification analysis. Gain- and loss-of-function and rescue assays were performed to clarify gene functions. To investigate the mitochondrial

Single-stage double motor nerve transfer for all finger flexion in iatrogenic C8-T1 spinal nerve injury: a case report and review of literature.

Restoration of hand function after C8-T1 spinal nerve injury is challenging. We report a case of a young patient who underwent single-stage transfer of extensor carpi radialis brevis (ECRB) branch of radial nerve to flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS) branch of median nerve and transfer of brachialis branch of musculocutaneous nerve to anterior interosseous nerve (AIN), aiming for restoration of all finger flexion in iatrogenic C8-T1 spinal nerve injury after the resection of a dumbbell-shaped C8 neurofibroma. At 18 months after the operation, the fingers and thumb functions were successfully

Transposition of branches of radial nerve innervating supinator to posterior interosseous nerve for functional reconstruction of finger and thumb extension in 4 patients with middle and lower trunk root avulsion injuries of brachial plexus.

This study aimed to investigate the reconstruction of the thumb and finger extension function in patients with middle and lower trunk root avulsion injuries of the brachial plexus. From April 2010 to January 2015, we enrolled in this study 4 patients diagnosed with middle and lower trunk root avulsion injuries of the brachial plexus via imaging tests, electrophysiological examinations, and clinical confirmation. Muscular branches of the radial nerve, which innervate the supinator in the forearm, were transposed to the posterior interosseous nerve to reconstruct the thumb and finger extension f

Nerve transfers to anterior interosseous nerve for restoration of finger flexion in spinal cord and brachial plexus injury: a systematic Review and individual-patient-data meta-analysis.

STUDY DESIGN: Systematic review and meta-analysis. OBJECTIVES: Cervical spinal cord injury (SCI) and brachial plexus injury (BPI) can result in hand paralysis. Reconstruction of hand motion is associated with improved functionality and quality of life. We synthesized the outcomes of finger and thumb flexion after various nerve transfers to the anterior interosseous nerve (AIN). METHODS: A systematic literature review and meta-analysis was performed according to the PRISMA guidelines. Successful finger and thumb flexion recovery was defined as Medical research council (MRC) grade ≥3. RESULTS

E3 Ubiquitin Ligase Ring Finger Protein 2 Alleviates Cerebral Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury by Stabilizing Mesencephalic Astrocyte-Derived Neurotrophic Factor Through Monoubiquitination.

AIM: Cerebral ischemic stroke (IS) is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality globally. However, the mechanisms underlying IS injury remain poorly understood. Ring finger protein 2 (RNF2), the member of the polycomb family (PcG), has been implicated in diverse biological and pathological conditions. However, whether RNF2 plays a role in IS progression is not clarified. This study aims to investigate the potential effects of RNF2 on IS. METHODS: The effects of RNF2 were studied in human postmortem IS brains, a rat model of IS, tunicamycin (TM)-induced mouse neuroblastoma neuro2a (

Finger- and toe-temperature responses to local cooling and rewarming have limited predictive value identifying susceptibility to local cold injury-a cohort study in military cadets.

The purpose was to evaluate whether a cold-water immersion test could be used to identify individuals susceptible to local cold injuries (LCI). Sixty-five healthy non-injured (N-I) subjects, and fifteen subjects, who were tested either prior to or after a LCI, sequentially immersed one hand and one foot, in 8 °C water for 30 min (CWI phase); this was followed by 15 min of spontaneous rewarming (RW phase). The LCI group showed a lower toe temperature during the CWI phase, and a lower maximum RW temperature of the fingers than the N-I group. However, digit temperatures during the CWI and RW phas

Comparison of proximal turndown of central slip combined with suture of lateral bands versus free tendon grafting for central slip reconstruction after an open finger injury.

We randomized patients with open finger injury and central slip insertion defects into a proximal turn-down group (final n = 28) and a palmaris longus tendon graft group (final n = 20). In the proximal turn-down group, the dorsal central slip of the extensor tendon in the proximal phalanx was split, leaving it attached distally. We turned the strip from proximal to distal and fixed it using the distal joint capsule of the proximal interphalangeal joint as the distal insertion of reconstruction, and the extended central slips were then fixed to the middle phalanx. The dorsal traumatic central s

Bone Scintigraphy and FDG PET/CT in a Case of Pulmonary NUT Carcinoma With Only Initial Presentation of Bony Metastasis to the Distal Phalanx of the Little Finger Following Traumatic Injury.

Acrometastasis is an uncommon presentation of lung cancer with poor prognosis. We describe bone scintigraphy and FDG PET/CT findings in a case of pulmonary nuclear protein in testis (NUT) carcinoma with only initial presentation of bony metastasis to the distal phalanx of the right little finger after traumatic injury. FDG PET/CT showed intense activity of the primary lung tumor with multiple FDG-avid lymph node, adrenal, bone, and cartilage metastases including unusual and unexpected metastases at the finger, mandibular condyle, and thyroid cartilage. Bone scintigraphy significantly underesti

Clinical application of an expanded reverse-island flap with two dorsal metacarpal arteries and dorsal metacarpal nerves in index- and middle-finger-degloving injury repair and amputation reconstruction.

The dorsal metacarpal artery flap (DMAF) is irrefutable as an effective way of repairing long finger defects, and hand surgeons might consider using it for long finger reconstruction or degloved injury repair. Unfortunately, the DMAF containing a single dorsal metacarpal artery (DMA) hinders the treatment effect. The sensory restoration of long fingers and the reconstruction of phalangeal joints and tendon grafts are unsolved challenges as well. We reported our experience in reconstructing the index and middle finger by a reverse-island flap with two DMAs and dorsal metacarpal nerves (DMNs) wi
