[Finite Element Simulation Analysis of a Nickel-Titanium Alloy Patent Foramen Ovale Occluder].

In this paper, a preliminary stress/strain analysis of the design structure of a nickel-titanium alloy patent foramen ovale occluder is conducted with the finite element simulation analysis method. In the analysis, solid structure modeling is carried out on three different specifications of domestic patent foramen ovale occluders. Referring to the test method of fatigue performance in inspection standard YY/T 1553-2017, an initial installation deformation is applied to the model, and then the fatigue displacement of 2 mm is applied to the sample to make the model fatigue deformation. The fatig

Finite element analysis of stress in mandibular molars repaired after fractured instrument removal.

BACKGROUND: This study assessed stress distributions in simulated mandibular molars filled with various materials after the removal of fractured instruments from the apical thirds of the root canals. METHODS: Finite element models of the mesial and distal root canals were created, where fractured instruments were assumed to be removed using a staging platform established with a modified Gates-Glidden bur (Woodpecker, Guangxi, P.R. China). Each canal was treated with different materials: Biodentine (Septodont, Saint Maur-des-Fosses, France), mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA), and gutta-percha.

Optimizing Stem Length in Conversion Total Hip Arthroplasty: An Expanded Finite Element Analysis.

Background/Objectives: Stress concentration around distal screw-removal holes confers a major risk for periprosthetic fractures following conversion total hip arthroplasty (cTHA) for intertrochanteric femoral fractures. Optimal stem-selection criteria and guidelines for cTHA can improve clinical outcomes. We determined the influence of the cementless stem length on the stress distribution around distal screw-removal holes. Methods: For the finite element analysis, institutional data from preoperative CT scans of contralateral femurs of patients who underwent THA were used. To replicate the pos

The comparison between various methods of mandibular reconstruction based on finite element analysis.

The Mandible can be damaged by pathological factors, tumors, trauma, infection, and needs a surgical operation for reconstruction and restoring function. There are different methods for the reconstruction of mandible. Based on the surgical approach, primary reconstruction of mandible by reconstruction plate after resection is necessary for maintaining mandibular symmetric and esthetic of the lower third of the face. A finite element model of mandible and masticatory muscles was produced from a normal person (male with 35-year-old). The normal model was resected from the left sixth tooth to the

Identification of excessive contact pressures under hand orthosis based on finite element analysis.

BACKGROUND: Implicit magnitudes and distribution of excessive contact pressures under hand orthoses hinder clinicians from precisely adjusting them to relieve the pressures. To address this, contact pressure under a hand orthosis were analysed using finite element method. METHODS: This paper proposed a method to numerically predict the relatively high magnitudes and critical distribution of contact pressures under hand orthosis through finite element analysis, to identify excessive contact pressure locations. The finite element model was established consisting of the hand, orthosis and bones.

Strength Optimisation of Hybrid Bolted/Bonded Composite Joints Based on Finite Element Analysis.

A finite element analysis (FEA) was conducted to examine the behaviour of single-lap quasi-isotropic (QI) and cross-ply (CP) hybrid bolted/bonded (HBB) configurations subjected to tensile shear loading. Several critical design factors influencing the composite joint strength, failure conditions, and load-sharing mechanisms that would optimise the joining performance were assessed. The study of the stress concentration around the holes and along the adhesive layer highlights the fact that the HBB joints benefit from significantly lower stresses compared to only bolted joints, especially for CP

Finite element analysis of a new preoperative traction for cervical kyphosis: suspensory traction.

A finite element model of cervical kyphosis was established to analyze the stress of cervical spine under suspensory traction and to explore the mechanism and effect of it. A patient with typical cervical kyphosis (C2-C5) underwent CT scan imaging, and 3D slicer was used to reconstruct the C2 to T2 vertebral bodies. The reconstructed data was imported into Hypermesh 2020 and Abaqus 2017 for meshing and finite element analysis. The changes of the kyphotic angle and the von Mises stress on the annulus fibrosus of each intervertebral disc and ligaments were analyzed under suspensory traction cond

Biomechanical Properties of Bionic Collum Femoris Preserving Hip Prosthesis: A Finite Element Analysis.

OBJECTIVE: Compared with total hip replacement, conventional collum femoris preserving prosthesis has a better bone retention effect. However, damage to the trabecular bone of the proximal femur leads to inevitable abnormal stress distribution, which leads to increased risks of femoral neck bone absorption, periprosthetic fracture, prosthesis loosening, rotation, and sinking. Thus, we compare the biomechanical properties of collum femoris preserving (CFP) and bionic collum femoris preserving (BCFP) hip prostheses. METHODS: The Sawbone digital model (#3503, left, medium) was selected as the re

Finite Element Analysis of Occlusal Interferences in Dental Prosthetics Caused by Occlusal Adjustment.

PURPOSE: To investigate the influence of occlusal interference using finite element analysis (FEA). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The FEA model designed for this study centered on an all-ceramic, bilayered, fixed partial denture (FPD) retained on the maxillary first premolar and first molar, with the second premolar replaced by a pontic. The surrounding structures-such as the neighboring teeth, antagonists, and periodontium-were modeled. Four different loading cases were designed at occlusal interferences of 0, 8, 12, and 24 μm and were loaded by a simulated bite force of 300 N. Principal and von Mi
