[Effect of local medications on intraocular pressure control following trabeculectomy].

Longterm administration of topical antiglaucoma therapies had been indicated to be a serious risk for failure of trabeculectomy through inducing a subclinical inflammation of conjunctival tissues and stimulating secondary fibroblastic proliferation. Our study had 3 main aims: (1) to check if this pejorative effect is present in our population of glaucomatous patients, (2) in order to improve the rate of surgical success in theoretically high risk patients (duration of topical treatment longer than 36 months), to determine the usefulness of the following actions: suppression of beta blocking ag

Bilateral Subretinal Fluid Mimicking Subretinal Neovascularization Within 24 Hours After Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty.

PURPOSE: Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), which is widely regarded as a safe procedure, is a frequently used treatment for open-angle glaucoma. Although it is presumed to be associated with an inflammatory cascade and possible postoperative inflammation, only 2 cases of SLT complicated by cystoid macular edema have been previously reported. Until now there are no previous reports of SLT causing subretinal fluid (SRF). METHODS/IMPORTANCE: Clinical examination, optical coherence tomography, and fluorescein angiography demonstrated a previously unreported clinical entity consisting of bila

The use of corticosteroid/beta-blocker combinations in the management of regression after PRK for high myopia.

After nearly 8 years of clinical experience, and with conflicting evidence from trials with and without corticosteroids, there is still no single, universally agreed postoperative management regimen for photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). All agree that corticosteroids will reverse sudden regressions, and so most still use varying corticosteroid regimens. In Hong Kong we are faced with many patients whose myopia is greater than -6 diopters (D), and we agree with the general observation that the regression/haze rate is much greater for these higher errors, and that increased intraocular pressure

The comparison of efficacies of topical corticosteroids and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drops on dry eye patients: a clinical and immunocytochemical study.

PURPOSE: To investigate whether conjunctival inflammation represents a primary event in the pathogenesis of keratoconjunctivitis sicca or whether it is a secondary inflammatory reaction caused by enhanced mechanical irritation as a result of surface dryness and whether anti-inflammatory drops (corticosteroids and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory) have therapeutic effects and are similar. DESIGN: Single-masked, randomized, prospective clinical trial. METHODS: Thirty-two keratoconjuctivitis patients with or without Sjögren syndrome were included in the study. Treatment of Non-Infectious Corneal Injury: Review of Diagnostic Agents, Therapeutic Medications, and Future Targets.

Corneal injuries can occur secondary to traumatic, chemical, inflammatory, metabolic, autoimmune, and iatrogenic causes. Ocular infection may frequently occur concurrent to corneal injury; however, antimicrobial agents are excluded from this present review. While practitioners may primarily rely on clinical examination techniques to assess these injuries, several pharmacological agents, such as fluorescein, lissamine green, and rose bengal, can be used to formulate a diagnosis and develop effective treatment strategies. Practitioners may choose from several analgesic medications to help with p
