A rare case of carpal boss lesion with an overlying ganglion cyst: case report and literature review.

Carpal boss is a bony protrusion on the dorsal aspect of wrist quadrangular joint. The exact cause and prevalence are not well understood. Most of the patients are asymptomatic, although some experience pain, bony prominence, restricted mobility, and joint instability in sever neglected cases. We are presenting a case of a 24-year-old male had chronic dorsal wrist pain with bony prominence appearance underwent surgical excision of a carpal boss lesion in concomitant with soft tissue ganglion cyst over the carpal boss after failed conservative management, resulting in significant symptom improv

Arthroscopic Distal Clavicle Resection for an Acromioclavicular Ganglion Cyst with Cuff Tear Arthropathy: A Case Report.

CASE: A 77-year-old man with an acromioclavicular joint ganglion cyst with cuff tear arthropathy had a large mass in the left shoulder. Arthroscopic distal clavicle resection successfully relieved his symptoms without loss of shoulder function by enlargement of the bypass between the cyst and subacromial space through the acromioclavicular joint. CONCLUSION: Arthroscopic distal clavicle resection can remove a 1-way check valve in a minimally invasive manner. This case indicated that arthroscopic distal clavicle resection could be a useful treatment option for patients with acromioclavicular j

A rapidly progressive foot drop caused by the posttraumatic Intraneural ganglion cyst of the deep peroneal nerve.

BACKGROUND: Intraneural ganglion cysts usually arise from the articular branch of the nerve. The relationship between intraneural ganglion cysts and trauma is not clear. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 62-year-old female with a rapidly progressive foot drop caused by a posttraumatic intraneural ganglion cyst of the deep peroneal nerve. We excised the ganglion cyst and performed nerve decompression. After the surgery, the patient had a functional recovery. CONCLUSIONS: The concurrence of an intraneural ganglion cyst and trauma may increase damage to the nerve, although it is difficul

Extra-tunnel Compression Mimicking Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome: Ultrasound Imaging for a Plantar Ganglion Cyst.

We reported a 43-year-old man with right-foot numbness under the tentative diagnosis of tarsal tunnel syndrome. The initial ultrasound examination did not identify any remarkable findings at the level of the medial malleolus. Owing to the failure of conservative treatments, he was referred for US-guided injection of the tibial nerve. When tracking the entire course of the nerve, a ganglion cyst was observed on top of the tibial nerve, in proximity to the medial and lateral plantar branches. The symptom disappeared after surgical excision. The present case highlights the importance of sonoantom

A rare case of an acute soleus arcade syndrome complicated by a ganglion cyst: diagnosis by dynamic ultrasound.

The soleus arcade syndrome is a rare compression neuropathy of the tibial nerve that often remains undiagnosed due to low clinical awareness and difficult diagnosis. We present the case of a female patient admitted with acute worsening of a pre-existing sensory tibial neuropathy and acute tibial nerve palsy after knee joint injection. After a knee magnetic resonance imaging remained non-diagnostic, dynamic ultrasonography was performed. Constriction by the soleus arcade and proximal swelling of the tibial nerve could be demonstrated during plantarflexion of the ankle by means of a dynamic exam

Unusual peroneal nerve palsy caused by intraneural ganglion cyst: pathological mechanism and appropriate treatment.

The origin of the peroneal intraneural ganglion and the outcome of treatment are still controversial. We report here three cases with peroneal intraneural ganglion and discuss the appropriate treatment. In our cases, 58-, 62-, and 65-year-old patients were operated on with extraneural decompression and epineurotomy within 4 months after onset of drop foot. Two cases demonstrated intraneural ganglion connecting to the articular branch and traversing to the deep and common peroneal nerve. At the 1-year follow-up, paralyzed peroneal nerve could be recovered in all patients even with residual gang

Pes Anserine Ganglion Cyst as a Rare Cause of Chronic Medial Knee Pain: A Case Report.

Ganglion cysts are benign mucin-filled pseudocysts most commonly encountered in the wrist and hand, while intra-articular ganglion cysts of the knee are rare, particularly those arising near the pes anserine bursa. Their nonspecific presentation often overlaps with more common causes of medial knee pain, leading to diagnostic delay. We report the case of a 43-year-old woman who presented with progressively worsening, atraumatic medial knee pain over several months with a largely unremarkable physical examination. Plain radiographs were normal, while magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a we

Ganglion Cyst at the Lateral Aspect of the First Metatarsophalangeal Joint: Dermatological Management With Punch Biopsy Excision.

Ganglion cysts are prevalent benign lesions originating from joint capsules or tendon sheaths, predominantly found in the wrist, while their presence on the toes is extremely rare. We report the case of a 27-year-old female who presented with a painless, mobile, rubbery nodule on the lateral aspect of the first metatarsal of the right foot. Generally, ganglion cysts in the foot are uncommon, and their development is thought to be associated with repetitive mechanical stress, leading to mucoid degeneration of collagen tissue. While conservative treatments such as aspiration and steroid injectio

Interlaminar Endoscopic Resection of Giant Hemorrhagic Ganglion Cyst of the Facet Joint at L1 to L2 Level.

Hemorrhagic facet cysts are a rare condition including both synovial and ganglion cysts. Here, the authors present the first-ever reported case of a hemorrhagic ganglion cyst of the facet joint at L1 to L2 causing cauda equina syndrome. In this report, a 72-year-old woman presented with symptoms of cauda equina syndrome requiring urgent surgical consideration. Magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography showed an extradural mass at the L1 to L2 level. Due to the giant size of the cyst, there was severe compression of the thecal sac and nerve roots. The patient underwent interlaminar con

Ganglion Cyst of the Foot Causing Second and Third Metatarsal Stress Reactions and Fractures: A Case Report.

Ganglion cysts arising from the plantar aspect are rare, and the most common location of the foot and ankle is the dorsal aspect of the foot. We present a case of a 49-year-old man with pain in the right foot. Plain radiographs showed thinning of the cortical bone in the right second and third metatarsals, and MRI showed cystic lesions between the second and third metatarsals, resulting in stress reactions and fractures. The fracture gradually remodeled and completely healed following resection of the ganglion cysts. If plain radiographs show atypical changes in the metatarsal bone morphology,

Palsy of Both the Tibial Nerve and Common Peroneal Nerve Caused by a Ganglion Cyst in the Popliteal Area.

A ganglion cyst is a benign mass consisting of high-viscosity mucinous fluid. It can originate from the sheath of a tendon, peripheral nerve, or joint capsule. Compressive neuropathy caused by a ganglion cyst is rarely reported, with the majority of documented cases involving peroneal nerve palsy. To date, cases demonstrating both peroneal and tibial nerve palsies resulting from a ganglion cyst forming on a branch of the sciatic nerve have not been reported. In this paper, we present the case of a 74-year-old man visiting an outpatient clinic complaining of left-sided foot drop and sensory los

Intra-articular leiomyoma of the knee mimicking a ganglion cyst in a child: A case report and review of literature.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Angioleiomyoma is a rare benign soft tissue tumor of smooth muscle getting its origin from the muscular layer of vessel walls. The localized type of leiomyoma occurs on the skin, deep soft tissues, in the genitourinary, gastrointestinal, and respiratory tracts. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 16-year-old patient who presented with an intra-articular leiomyoma developed in the anterior cruciate ligament and treated with arthroscopy. CLINICAL DISCUSSION: Angioleiomyoma can occur anywhere in the body and is most often seen in the extremities, particularly t

Intraneural Ganglion Cyst of the Sciatic Nerve Treated Using Arthroscopic Hip Surgery: A Case Report.

This is a rare case of sciatic neuropathy in a 46-year-old man secondary to an intraneural ganglion cyst from the hip joint extending upward to the lumbar plexus and the L5 nerve root. Magnetic resonance neurography showed that the joint fluid passed through a labral tear and extended rostrally along the articular branch and the peroneal portion of the sciatic nerve to near the L5 nerve root. The condition was treated by arthroscopic disruption of the joint connection to the nerve with resolution of the intraneural cyst and partial neurological recovery.
