PgERF13 and PgbHLH14 mediate jasmonate-induced protopanaxadiol-biased ginsenoside biosynthesis in Panax ginseng.

Ginsenosides are the major bioactive triterpene saponins in ginseng (Panax ginseng) and are important determinants of its medicinal value. In vitro propagation of ginseng adventitious roots enables large-scale production of ginseng biomass under controlled culture conditions, and methyl jasmonate (MeJA) is widely used to enhance ginsenoside accumulation in this system. However, how jasmonate signaling activates ginsenoside biosynthesis and reshapes ginsenoside composition remains unclear. Here, we found that MeJA treatment markedly increased total saponin content and shifted ginsenoside compos

Ginsenoside Rb1 carbon nanodots: A green and promising nanomedicine for effective gastric cancer treatment.

This study synthesized bioactive carbon nanodots (Rb1-CDs) from ginsenoside Rb1 via hydrothermal processing. The Rb1-CDs demonstrated a uniform size distribution (5.3 ± 1.5 nm), excellent dispersibility, and excitation-dependent fluorescence. In contrast to conventional carbon dots (CDs) derived from non-bioactive precursors, the Rb1-CDs preserved the pharmacological properties of ginsenoside Rb1 while exhibiting enhanced tumor-suppressive effects. In vitro, the Rb1-CDs selectively inhibited proliferation and induced apoptosis in gastric cancer cells (HGC27 and AGS) by modulating the MAPK and

Ginsenoside Rg3 Restores Mitochondrial Cardiolipin Homeostasis via GRB2 to Prevent Parkinson's Disease.

Regulating cardiolipin to maintain mitochondrial homeostasis is a promising strategy for addressing Parkinson's disease (PD). Through a comprehensive screening and validation process involving multiple models, ginsenoside Rg3 (Rg3) as a compound capable of enhancing cardiolipin levels is identified. This augmentation in cardiolipin levels fosters mitochondrial homeostasis by bolstering mitochondrial unfolded protein response, promoting mitophagy, and enhancing mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation. Consequently, this cascade enhances the survival of tyrosine hydroxylase positive (TH+) dopami

Enhanced brain distribution of Ginsenoside F1 via intranasal administration in combination with absorption enhancers.

Ginsenoside F1 (GF1) is a potential drug candidate for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Nevertheless, its low oral bioavailability and poor solubility limit clinical application. By utilizing either a direct or indirect approach, intranasal administration is a non-invasive drug delivery method that can deliver drugs to the brain rapidly. But large molecule drug delivered to the brain through intranasal administration may be insufficient to reach required concentration for therapeutic effect. In this study, using GF1 as a model drug, the feasibility of intranasal administration in combinat

Ginsenoside Re inhibits melanogenesis and melanoma growth by downregulating microphthalmia-associated transcription factor.

Panax ginseng, also known as Korean ginseng, is a traditional remedy widely used in Asian countries. Its major active compounds are ginsenosides, specifically triterpenoid saponins. Among them, one notable ginsenoside called Re has shown various biological effects, including anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties. However, the potential beneficial effects of Re on melanogenesis and skin cancer remain poorly understood. To investigate this, we conducted a comprehensive study using biochemical assays, cell-based models, a zebrafish pigment formation model, and a tumor xenograft model. Our

Ginsenoside Rg3 endows liposomes with prolonged blood circulation and reduced accelerated blood clearance.

PEGylated cholesterol-containing liposomes (Chol-PEG-lipo) have been widely used as a drug carrier for their good stealth property in blood circulation where cholesterol maintains the stability of the liposomal lipid bilayer and PEGylation endows liposomes with long circulation capability. However, cholesterol-related disadvantages and the accelerated blood clearance (ABC) phenomenon caused by PEGylation greatly limit the application of conventional stealth liposomes in clinic. Herein, ginsenoside Rg3 was selected to substitute cholesterol and PEG for liposomes preparation (Rg3-lipo). Rg3 was
