Management of urinary incontinence by bladder tube urethral lengthening and submucosal reimplantation.

We reviewed the first 25 urethral lengthening and reimplantation procedures done at our institution in 24 patients. All patients had failed to achieve dryness on medical or surgical therapy for total urinary incontinence. A total of 32 patients had neurogenic incontinence. The patients were followed for 1.5 to 7 years. Late complications included catheterization difficulties, vesicoureteral reflux, febrile urinary tract infection, calculi and peritonitis. Reoperations were required in 19 patients primarily because of our initial failure to recognize the necessity of providing a low pressure, h

The Contiform incontinence device - efficacy and patient acceptability.

A consecutive series of 59 women with urodynamic stress incontinence but no prolapse were offered treatment with Contiform (available in small/medium/large sizes). The 24-h pad test was the primary outcome measure. Of the 59 enrolled women, 41 (69%) completed the trial protocol. Median use was 21 days (IQR 10-24.5). Two severity groups were categorized based on pretreatment pad testing (mild <30 g/day n=24 patients, 59%) and moderate/severe >30 g/day, n= 17(41%). Overall, loss was reduced by a median of 72% (5-92), p<0.0001, with the greatest reduction seen in the moderate/severe group of 85%

[Diagnostic algorithms in female urinary incontinence].

Urinary incontinence is frequent problem with significantly negative impact on the quality of life. The correct plan of examination leads to the proposal of the appropriate treatment. The history, correct judgment of symptoms of incontinence and detailed gynaecological examination are important at the beginning of the diagnostic process. Negative urine cultivation is necessary condition for the invasive investigation of the urinary tract. Special questionnaires, micturition diary and clinical tests belong to the physical examination. The pad-weight test is based on the measurement of weight ga

[Clinical evaluation of female urinary incontinence].

EXAMINATION: Clinical evaluation of stress and urge incontinence is always necessary before therapeutic decisions. Full bladder examination may reveal stress incontinence during cough when cervico-urethral hypermobility is suspected, and leak during Vasalva manoeuvre when incontinence is due to intrinsic sphincter deficiency. OBJECTIVE SCORES: Pad test objectives the quantitative importance of incontinence. Symptom scores allow intra and inter individual comparisons. Psychosocial implications are studied with specific quality of life scales. They allow better therapeutic strategies in the man

[Male urinary incontinence].

MALE URINARY INCONTINENCE. Male urinary incontinence is a common condition that tends to increase with age and can significantly impact the quality of life. Beyond the clinical diagnosis made through patient history and examination, healthcare practitioners must strive to identify the underlying mechanism(s) and assess the degree of discomfort to initiate appropriate treatment. Two main types of urinary incontinence are distinguished: stress urinary incontinence, which can often benefit from pelvic floor muscle training, and urgency urinary incontinence, which typically responds to drug therap
