An ergonomic focus evaluation of work-related musculoskeletal disorders amongst operators in the UAE network control centres.

Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) have rapidly increased during the last decade, but only a few descriptive surveys have been conducted in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This study investigated the prevalence of WMSDs and analysed their ergonomic risks amongst operators in the network control rooms across two government organisations, X and Y, in the UAE. Essential data were collected by the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ) and the Maastricht Upper Extremity Questionnaire (MUEQ) from online surveys and direct observations based on the Rapid Office Strain Assessment (ROS

Supporting young adults experiencing psychosis with their employment: A qualitative exploration of occupational therapists' experiences.

INTRODUCTION: Young adults experiencing psychosis have the same plans for work and future careers as their peers; however, many find themselves unable to participate. While there is research available about interventions used to support employment of young adults with psychosis, there is little evidence regarding the experience of occupational therapists working in this field and the vocational rehabilitation interventions and practices they use. METHODS: A descriptive qualitative study using semi-structured interviews was used to explore the perspectives of occupational therapy practitioners

Psychosocial working conditions, trajectories of disability, and the mediating role of cognitive decline and chronic diseases: A population-based cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Unfavorable psychosocial working conditions have been associated with cognitive decline and chronic diseases, both of which may subsequently accelerate functional dependence. This study aimed to investigate the association between job demand-control-support combinations and trajectories of disability in later life and to further explore the role of cognitive decline and the co-occurrence of chronic diseases in mediating this association. METHODS AND FINDINGS: In this cohort study, 2,937 community dwellers aged 60+ years (mean age 73 ± 10.6; 62.9% female) residing in the Kungsholme

The role of advanced practice psychiatric nurses in treating tobacco use and dependence.

Tobacco use is treatable and the benefits of smoking cessation are impressive, yet like other health care providers, psychiatric nurses have failed to consistently assess and treat tobacco use effectively. Tobacco use continues to cause illness, disability, and death at unprecedented rates. Nicotine addiction is drug abuse and it is a chronic disease and needs to be treated as such. There are clear health benefits to smoking cessation regardless of the age of smoking initiation or the age of smoking cessation. Advanced practice psychiatric nurses (APPNs) are in a unique position to make an imp

Over-the-counter advice for genital problems: the role of the community pharmacist.

This year, in the UK, levonorgestrel was approved for sale in pharmacies for emergency contraception. This study assessed, using a postal questionnaire, the ability of community pharmacists to provide advice relating to sexual health, their comfort and training in this area, and their knowledge of local genitourinary medicine (GUM) services. Fifty-four per cent of pharmacists responded. Most (79%) did not know where their nearest GUM department was; only 21% had ever advised a patient to attend a GUM clinic. Twenty-nine per cent said they were not able to broach the possibility of a sexually t

DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study. SETTING: Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri. PARTICIPANTS: Hospital personnel employed at any time between January 1989 and July 1991. How provider organisations interpret regulation in the context of residential dementia aged care.

OBJECTIVE: To explore how Australian residential dementia aged care providers respond to regulation via organisational culture, level, processes and interpretation. METHODS: Observation took place in three provider organisations. Qualitative, semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with aged care staff (n = 60) at three different levels of each organisation: senior management from three head offices (n = 17), facility management (n = 13) and personal care workers (n = 30) from eight residential care facilities. RESULTS: Orientations towards regulation included the following: "abov

Reflective narrative and dementia care.

This study was an enquiry into how clinical supervision could enable a team of six community psychiatric nurses to provide improved patient-centred care. It also examined how feelings of burn-out, stress and tedium when caring for people with dementia could be relieved. The methodology used in the study analysed the process, enabling the findings to be studied. This is new paradigm research, requiring the researcher and participants to be equal and active coenquirers into the process facilitating the enquiry. Six community psychiatric nurses allowed their period of supervision to be recorded o

Psychosocial work environment and health among ambulance clinicians in northern Sweden.

BACKGROUND: Ambulance clinicians in emergency medical services (EMS) work under demanding conditions characterised by high workload, unpredictable environments, and exposure to potentially traumatic incidents. These stressors may negatively affect their health and well-being. Understanding how psychosocial work environment factors relate to health outcomes is therefore important for developing preventive strategies in prehospital emergency care. This study aimed to describe ambulance clinicians' self-rated psychosocial work environment and health in northern Sweden and to examine associations

Experience of Health Professionals in Caring for Patients With Chest Trauma: A Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: The variation in the implementation of chest trauma (CT) management's guidelines led to inconsistent and mixed experiences toward CT management by the health care team. Moreover, there is a scarcity of studies exploring factors that enhance CT management experiences worldwide and in Jordan. OBJECTIVES: The aims of this study were (1) to explore emergency health professionals' attitudes and experiences toward CT management and (2) to understand factors that affect the care for patients with CTs among emergency health professionals. METHODS: A qualitative exploratory approach was a

Evaluation of a Palliative and End-of-Life Care Education Program for Healthcare Workers.

With growing global demand for high-quality palliative and end-of-life care in community-based settings, continuing education for care staff has become increasingly important. However, access to structured education remains limited, particularly in long-term care facilities. This study evaluated a palliative and end-of-life care education program comprising an education session and a focus group discussion using an embedded mixed-methods design. Thirty-nine healthcare workers from a small-scale, community-based facility participated in this study, and the online education was evaluated measuri

Molecular Classification in a Cohort of Occupational Dermatological Patients: Diagnostic Results and Course of Ability to Work and Sick Leave Over Two Years.

Hand eczema is the most common occupational skin disease (OSD), often leading to sick leave or job termination. Standard diagnostic procedures are often ambiguous. Molecular classification has been described to improve differentiation between eczema and psoriasis, which is the most common differential diagnosis. Since 2020, a cohort of 287 patients with suspected, occupational hand and/or foot dermatoses (eczema or psoriasis) has been established in Germany. The current analysis focuses on descriptive results on the days of absence from work, occupational retention and legal recognition of OSD

BACKGROUND: Employment and job security are key influences on health and wellbeing. In Australia, little is known about the employment lifecycle of adults with dyslexia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Using a qualitative research design, this study sought to explore the experiences faced by adults with dyslexia seeking and retaining employment. In-depth interviews were conducted with a cohort either currently or previously in the labour market. We used the Job Demands Resource Model of Burnout (JD-R Model) to explore links between workplace characteristics and employee wellbeing. Deductive content an

This study aimed to determine the prevalence and characteristics of workplace violence experienced by PED staff, and to examine its association with their job satisfaction. METHODS: This study was a descriptive cross-sectional study. Participants were PED physicians and nurses. Data collection tools were “socio-demographic and wo
