Ganglioneuroma in a Meller's chameleon (Triocerosmelleri).

Nervous system neoplasia is rarely reported in reptiles, with most reports representing gliomas. A captive, 9-year-old Meller's chameleon (Trioceros melleri) was euthanized for weight loss and lethargy. At necropsy, a 2 cm-diameter mass was effacing the right adrenal gland and adhered to the kidney. The skin had two, 0.8-1.0 cm-diameter, firm, pale-yellow masses over the right leg and left shoulder. The fat bodies were small. Histologically, the adrenal gland and peri-adrenal soft tissues were effaced by an expansile, moderately cellular neoplasm entrapping remnant chromaffin and interrenal ce

Synchronous papillary renal neoplasm with reverse polarity and membranous nephropathy: a rare case report.

BACKGROUND: Papillary renal neoplasm with reverse polarity (PRNRP) is a relatively rare subtype of papillary renal cell carcinoma (PRCC) and is considered to be a tumor of low malignant potential. Membranous nephropathy (MN) is frequently associated with malignant tumors but rarely accompanies renal cell carcinoma. Synchronous papillary renal neoplasm with reverse polarity and membranous nephropathy has not been reported in the current study. (We searched in PubMed, Web of Science databases, Embase, and Medline in the English language from 1970 to October 2024. The keywords used were "papillar

Primary Renal Neuroendocrine Tumors Presenting as a Complex Cystic Mass and Arising in a Horseshoe Kidney: A Report of Two Cases.

Primary renal neuroendocrine tumors (PRNETs) are exceptionally rare neoplasms that account for less than 1% of genitourinary neuroendocrine neoplasms and pose considerable diagnostic difficulty because of their non-specific clinicoradiological presentations and diverse histomorphology, which frequently mimics conventional renal epithelial tumors. We describe two adult patients with well-differentiated PRNET managed by partial nephrectomy including a 41-year-old male with a complex bosniak category IV cystic renal lesion, and another 43-year-old female with a tumor arising from the isthmus of a

Cadherin-16 (CDH16) immunohistochemistry: a useful diagnostic tool for renal cell carcinoma and papillary carcinomas of the thyroid.

Cadherin-16 (CDH16) plays a role in the embryonal development in kidney and thyroid. Downregulation of CDH16 RNA was found in papillary carcinomas of the thyroid. To determine the expression of CDH16 in tumors and to assess the diagnostic utility a tissue microarray containing 15,584 samples from 152 different tumor types as well as 608 samples of 76 different normal tissue types was analyzed. A membranous CDH16 immunostaining was predominantly seen in thyroid, kidney, cauda epididymis, and mesonephric remnants. In the thyroid, CDH16 staining was seen in 100% of normal samples, 86% of follicul

Pediatric renal solitary fibrous tumor: report of a rare case and review of the literature.

Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are unusual spindle cell neoplasms initially described in the pleura but have since been discovered in many extrapleural locations. SFT of the kidney is extremely rare, the majority occurring in middle-aged adults. To date, only two pediatric cases of renal SFT have been reported. We report a case of large SFT in the kidney of a 3-year-old boy that was clinically and radiologically thought to be a nephroblastoma. This case is the first pediatric renal SFT to be reported with detailed histopathologic and cytogenetic analyses. SFT should be included in the differen

Expression of the Wilms' tumour gene WT1 in the developing human and in paediatric renal tumours: an immunohistochemical study.

AIMS: The Wilms' tumour gene (WT1) product is expressed during the development of the urogenital system. This study was undertaken to evaluate four anti-WT1 antibodies and use the most specific one to examine the expression of WT1 in formalin fixed, paraffin wax embedded tissues from human embryos, fetuses, and paediatric renal neoplasms. METHODS: The antibodies were assessed on paraffin sections of fetal kidney and by western blotting. Immunohistochemical techniques were optimised and performed on a range of embryonic, fetal, and infant tissues from 35 days post-conception to three months of

Cytodiagnosis of unusual metastases in parotid gland.

Documentation of metastatic lesions in the parotid gland diagnosed by fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is limited in the cytopathology literature. The metastases within the parotid masquerades clinically as primary neoplasm of parotid. The authors of present case report intent to highlight the importance of FNAC in the diagnosis of metastases in parotid. These diagnoses enable the search for the locations of unknown primaries. The nodules within the parotid masquerading as primary neoplasm have undergone FNAC in five cases. The cytomorphological interpretation of the smears was performed

Renal cystic diseases and renal neoplasms: a mini-review.

The past two decades have witnessed recognition of several new types of renal cell carcinoma, each with distinct cytogenetic abnormalities. Included are several genetic and acquired cystic kidney diseases associated with development of renal cell carcinoma, the topic of this review. The risk in patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease is not accurately known but may be slightly increased. The risk for patients with von Hippel-Lindau disease is substantial, and death from renal cancer is common. For patients with tuberous sclerosis complex, the challenge is recognition of the

Multicentric bilateral renal cell carcinomas and a vascular leiomyoma in a child.

We report a unique case of multicentric bilateral renal cell carcinomas and a simultaneous large renal vascular leiomyoma in an 11-year-old child with sickle cell anemia. The patient presented with several episodes of massive hematuria. Abdominal sonography and computed tomography demonstrated bilateral renal neoplasms and the patient was clinically thought to have bilateral Wilms' tumor. An initial biopsy of the lower pole of right kidney revealed a renal cell carcinoma. Accordingly, bilateral renal angiography followed by right total nephrectomy and left upper pole partial nephrectomy were p

Conservative surgery for renal cell carcinoma.

The authors present their clinical experience in conservative surgery for renal cell carcinoma, which was performed in two cases of simultaneous bilateral tumours, in a case of neoplasm in solitary kidney, in two cases of cancers with damaged contralateral kidney and in two cases of association between cyst and small tumour. All patients are alive and without evidence of residual or recurrent malignancy with a followup ranging between 6 months and 7 years. The pros and cons of the various surgical solutions are discussed.

From angiomyolipoma to malignant epithelioid angiomyolipoma of the kidney, a case report with a history of eight years.

Epithelioid angiomyolipoma (EAML) is a rare subtype of angiomyolipoma (AML) with potential has malign tendency. UP to now, the biological association between EMAL and typical AML is not well known. In the present study, we reported a case of EMAL arose in AML seven years post AML operation. A 34-year-old man with bilateral kidney AML was operated with an open cytoreductive surgery of both sides. After seven years, the left nephrectomy was performed due to a new neoplasm was found in the left kidney. The pathology diagnosis and inmmunohistochemical staining suggested the new neoplasm was EAML.

Imaging of haemodialysis: renal and extrarenal findings.

Electrolyte alterations and extra-renal disorders are quite frequent in patients undergoing haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis. The native kidneys may be the site of important pathologies in patients undergoing dialysis, especially in the form of acquired renal cystic disease with frequent malignant transformation. Renal neoplasms represents an important complication of haemodialysis-associated acquired cystic kidney disease and imaging surveillance is suggested. Extra-renal complications include renal osteodistrophy, brown tumours, and thoracic and cardiovascular complications. Other import

[Solitary fibrous tumor of the kidney. A propos of a case].

Solitary Fibrous Tumors (SFT) are rare spindle cell neoplasm that typically originate from the pleura. However, cases of the SFT are described with origin in other organs, including the urinary and genital apparatus. Within the kidney, except from the renal pelvis, only 19 cases of SFT are described and such rarity of localization makes the histogenesis and the prognosis of the tumor rather unknown. We report the case of a 72-year-old lady who attended our Unit for a mass that was clinically palpable at the level of the left hemiabdomen. The tomodensitographic test indicated a 19cm-diameter ma

Transplantation in patients with primary renal malignancies.

Seventy-three patients with primary renal neoplasms underwent kidney transplantation. Three distinct groups were identified. Thirty-four patients (group 1), who underwent antineoplastic therapy 1 year or less before transplantation, developed metastases or recurrences in 53% of the cases. In contrast, none of 15 patients in group 2 had this problem. All of these patients had a waiting period of at least 15 months between nephrectomy and transplantation. These findings emphasize the value of a lengthy waiting period between treatment of the neoplasm and performance of transplantation with its a

Case Report: Feline adrenal pheochromocytoma with a synaptophysin-positive, chromogranin A-negative immunophenotype.

Pheochromocytoma is a rare adrenal medullary neoplasm in cats, with limited published cases and diagnostic challenges due to variable clinical presentation. An 8-year-old neutered male domestic shorthair cat presented with severe watery diarrhea, lethargy, and anorexia. Diagnostic evaluation revealed chronic kidney disease, pyelonephritis, and a large cystic right adrenal mass identified on ultrasonography and computed tomography. Endocrine testing did not support hyperadrenocorticism or hyperaldosteronism, and functional assessment of catecholamine excess was not performed. Surgical adrenalec

Primary malignant lymphoma of the kidney: case report and literature review.

We report on a 65-year-old white woman who was hospitalized because of symptoms of an acute adrenocortical insufficiency. A CT scan revealed the presence of a large mass in the left kidney that infiltrated the adrenal gland. Fine needle aspiration cytology of the mass under imaging control failed to achieve a correct diagnosis, and nephrectomy was undertaken with a preoperative diagnosis of renal cell carcinoma. However, the frozen section reveals a neoplasm of large lymphoid cells with a diffuse growth pattern. Immunohistochemistry confirms the B-cell nature of the neoplasm (CD20+). The final

C-erb B-2 amplification in cystic renal disease.

Gene amplification (overexpression) of c-erb B-2 was tested in a variety of cystic renal diseases, renal cell neoplasms (adenomas and carcinomas) and end stage kidneys without cysts. C-erb B-2 encodes a receptor-like protein that shares homology with, but is distinct from the epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptor. A monoclonal antibody that immunoprecipitates a protein of approximately 185 kD from a lysate of NIH/3T3 cells transfected with the c-erb B-2 gene was utilized for testing. Lymphoid neoplasms of the urinary tract and male genital organs: a clinicopathological study of 40 cases.

Lymphoid neoplasms of the urinary tract and male genital organs are relatively rare, comprising less than 5% of all primary extranodal lymphomas; only a handful of small case series and isolated case reports have been published describing their predominant sites and subtypes. We identified 40 patients with lymphoid neoplasms of the urinary tract and male genital organs. Hematoxylin and eosin slides and immunohistochemical stains were reviewed, and follow-up data were also obtained. Twenty-six of 40 cases (65%) were primary genitourinary lymphomas. Mean age at diagnosis was 56 years (range 4-86

Carcinogenic activity of the flame retardant, 2,2-bis(bromomethyl)-1,3-propanediol in rodents, and comparison with the carcinogenicity of other NTP brominated chemicals.

Several brominated chemicals have been shown to be multisite-multispecies carcinogens in laboratory animals, and in this paper we report that the flame retardant, 2,2-bis(bromomethyl)-1,3-propanediol (BMP) is also a multisite carcinogen in both sexes of Fischer 344 rats and B6C3F1 mice. BMP was administered continuously in the diet for up to 2 yr to rats at doses of 0, 2,500, 5,000, or 10,000 ppm and to mice at doses of 0, 312, 625, or 1,250 ppm. Interim groups of rats were examined at 15 mo. An additional recovery group of male rats received the chemical for 3 mo at 20,000 ppm in the feed, an
