Prevention of third molar development in dog with long pulse diode laser: a preliminary report.

INTRODUCTION: Wisdom teeth continue to plague man with a high rate of frequency. It may be possible to prevent their development in children at an early age with a non- or minimally invasive technique, even before the tooth begins to form, by treating the soft tissue overlying the site of their development. A previous study that treated the intra-oral soft tissues of newborn rats with a 20 watt diode laser stopped third molar development up to 80% of the time with minimum observable side effects. This brief report describes a similar use of the diode laser in a limited number of young beagle p

Photobiomodulation for traumatic brain injury.

There is a notable lack of therapeutic alternatives for what is fast becoming a global epidemic of traumatic brain injury (TBI). Photobiomodulation (PBM) employs red or near-infrared (NIR) light (600-1300 nm) from lasers or LEDs to stimulate healing, protect tissue from dying, increase mitochondrial function, improve blood flow and tissue oxygenation. PBM can also act to reduce swelling, increase antioxidants, decrease inflammation, protect against apoptosis, and modulate microglial activation state. All these mechanisms of action strongly suggest that PBM delivered to the head should be benef

The effect of light-emitting diode-mediated photobiomodulation therapy on orthodontic tooth movement: A literature review.

This study aims to review and analyze the impact of light-emitting diode (LED) photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy on orthodontic tooth movement. This non-invasive technique is proposed to reduce time-related side effects, such as white spot lesions, dental caries, and root resorption. Five studies were included in the review, comprising two animal studies (ages 10 and 12 weeks) and three human studies (ages ranging from 15 to 17 years). All studies applied PBM concurrently with force application using sliding mechanics for canine retraction (three studies) and molar protraction (two studies). Tw

Exploring photobiomodulation in the management of bowel diseases: a concise critical review.

The complexity of the gastrointestinal system plays a crucial role in coordinating essential processes such as digestion, nutrient absorption, and waste elimination. inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) pose significant treatment challenges due to their complex aetiology and varied symptoms. Conventional therapeutic approaches often involve pharmacological interventions, which may have side effects and limited efficacy. Photobiomodulation (PBM), also known as low-level light therapy, has emerged as a promising therapeutic or adjunctive alternative in the treatment of intestinal diseases. The sear

New Insights into Photobiomodulation of the Vaginal Microbiome-A Critical Review.

The development of new technologies such as sequencing has greatly enhanced our understanding of the human microbiome. The interactions between the human microbiome and the development of several diseases have been the subject of recent research. In-depth knowledge about the vaginal microbiome (VMB) has shown that dysbiosis is closely related to the development of gynecologic and obstetric disorders. To date, the progress in treating or modulating the VMB has lagged far behind research efforts. Photobiomodulation (PBM) uses low levels of light, usually red or near-infrared, to treat a diversit

Comparison of low-level laser therapy and standard treatment for temporomandibular disorders: An assessment of therapeutic and placebo effects.

BACKGROUND: Despite extensive research on the use of low-power lasers for TMD treatment, the extent of their effectiveness remains uncertain. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic or placebo effect of LLLT for TMD, and to compare it with standard treatment methods. A unique aspect of this study was the inclusion of a control group that received only standard treatment, allowing for an assessment of the placebo effect of LLLT. METHODS: A total of 42 patients with TMD were referred to Kerman Dental School Pain Clinic and were randomly assigned to three groups: group A rece

Low-level laser therapy, piezocision, or their combination vs. conventional treatment for orthodontic tooth movement : A hierarchical 6-arm split-mouth randomized clinical trial.

PURPOSE: The use non-invasive or minimally invasive methods to accelerate orthodontic tooth movements (OTM) is desirable. In this regard, low-level laser therapy (LLLT, photobiomodulation) and piezocision are suggested. However, because the efficacies of these methods remain controversial/inconclusive, we investigated and compared these two methods. METHODS: Sixty-four quadrants in 32 patients were randomized into three parallel intervention groups of 22, 22, and 20 (6 parallel arms, n = 64 treatment/control sides). Bilateral first premolars were extracted and canine retraction commenced. In

Enhanced hair growth effects through low-level vortex beams radiation: An experimental animal study.

Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) is a non-invasive and pain-less treatment for hair loss. Researches on PBMT rarely considered the impact of different light structures. In this study, we irradiated shaven rats with both 650 nm, m = 32 vortex beams and ordinary Gaussian beams. The laser treatment was performed at 24-hour intervals for 20 days. The energy density was set to 4.25 J/cm2 . The results indicated that low-level vortex beam irradiation led to better stimulation of hair growth than the Gaussian beams, which might be related to deeper penetration. The underlying biological mechanisms a

Effectiveness of photobiomodulation therapy in radiation dermatitis: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effectiveness of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) in the prevention and treatment of radiation dermatitis (RD). METHODS: A systematic review was conducted using seven databases and the gray literature. We performed a meta-analysis to summarize the effect sizes of response rates (RRs). RESULTS: We included seven clinical trials. Breast cancer patients receiving PBMT developed more grade 1 RD than the control group (RR 1.55, 95 % CI 1.14-2.10, I2 = 51 %). PBMT appears to prevent RD grade 2 (RR 0.33, 95 % CI 0.09-1.23, I2 = 85 %) and RD grade 3 (RR 0.21, 95 % CI 0.05-0

Narrative Review of Russian, Ukrainian and English-Language Publications Investigating the Effects of Photobiomodulation on Red Blood Cell Physiology.

Objective: The beneficial effects of photobiomodulation (PBM) on cellular function are well characterized, principally deriving from the absorption of red to near-infrared radiation by chromophores such as cytochrome-c-oxidase. However, the effects and underlying mechanisms of PBM on non-mitochondria containing cells, such as red blood cells (RBCs), are relatively unknown. In this review, we evaluate studies that investigated the effects of PBM on RBCs in the peripheral circulation, with particular attention on changes in the structural and functional features of RBC membrane dynamics, as well
