Pericardial cysts are rare congenital abnormalities with a reported incidence rate of 1:100,000, accounting for about 7.6% of all mediastinal masses. These cysts frequently occur in the right cardiophrenic angle and their diagnosis is usually suspected after an abnormal chest X-ray is obtained. Herein, we present a case of pericardial cyst compressing the left atrium complicated by a pericardial effusion and pleural effusion in a 62 year-old man with chest discomfort and dyspnoea. After the pericardial cyst was surgically removed, the histopathological examination revealed an inflamed pericard

A tumor shadow was identified in the chest X-ray of a 40-year-old Korean man and he was referred to our hospital. The computed tomographic (CT) scan of his chest showed a 3-cm rounded pleural-based mass lesion with calcification, which was growing into the intercostal muscles. Thoracoscopic surgery was performed to resect the tumor. From the histological findings, the tumor was diagnosed as an intramuscular lipoma. The patient displayed no evidence of recurrence for more than 18 months. As well-circumscribed type of intramuscular lipoma is a rare tumor, we report this case with a literature re

Pericardial cysts are uncommon congenital abnormalities that occur in the middle mediastinum. Most of these are found incidentally on chest x-rays. The occurrence of pericardial cyst in children is quite rare. It needs to be differentiated from other cystic mediastinal masses. A rare case of pericardial cyst in a 5 year old male child is reported. The child presented with chest pain, cough and fever. The preoperative diagnosis of pericardial cyst was suggestive on echocardiography and CT scan. It was confirmed on histopathology after successful surgical excision. The rarity of this benign medi

We report a rare case of primary thoracic rhabdomyosarcoma in a girl who was referred with acute chest pain, hacking cough, and wheezing. A chest X-ray revealed a complete opacity of the right hemithorax. Ultrasound revealed a right-sided pleural effusion and a solid mass above the liver dome, suggesting a neoplastic disease, which quickly led to further specific examination. Use of CT and MRI together with bone scintigraphy completed the investigation. The biopsy specimen showed a pattern of alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma. This case was reported to emphasize the role of US in the evaluation of a c

Bronchogenic cysts are rare congenital malformations of ventral foregut development. They are usually located in the mediastinum and intrapulmonary regions. Localization in the cervical area is unusual and the majority of cases reported have been found in the pediatric population: the literature reports few cases in adults. We describe a 57-year-old male who presented an asymptomatic right lateral neck mass. Diagnostic studies included chest X-ray, pharyngo-esophagus double-contrast X-ray, computed tomography (CT), and bronchoscopy. The mass was excised through a transverse right cervical skin

Among identified in the army for one year of active tuberculosis patients constitute 38.7% of the number of soldiers from young recruits, including 59.7% of infiltrative pulmonary tuberculosis. At the same time during the examination of these individuals revealed only about half of patients. Timely delivery of fluorographic examination recruitment plays a crucial role in preventing the spread of tuberculosis in the Armed Forces. From the military doctors need more work in groups at increased risk of tuberculosis, early identification of need in the dispensary dynamic observation and conducting

We report a case with Langerhans cell histiocytosis appearing as an extra-pleural tumor. A 20-year-old man was transferred to our hospital because of right chest pain and fever. His chest X-ray showed an extra-pleural mass and chest CT scan showed a mass lesion with right 7th rib fracture. 67Gallium and bone scintigram showed uptake at the same site. We performed a CT-guided puncture biopsy. Pathological findings of the specimen showed diffuse proliferation of histiocytoid cells with some eosinophils. The histiocytes were positive for S-100 protein and CD1a on immunohistochemical stain. Langer

A 35-year-old man, a known asthmatic and with a history of smoking presented with a history of recurrent episodes of mild haemoptysis. On examination, there was decreased intensity of breath sounds on the right infraclavicular area. The chest X-ray and CT chest showed a mass in right upper lobe with nodules in the other lobe. The VAT showed large heavily vascularised mass with surface laden with multiple nodules. The wedge resection of the mass was taken and sent for histopathology examination. The biopsy result showed picture suggestive of connective tissue disease associated follicular bronc

We present the results of a study conducted in 1984 in 31 DDASS centres which enabled us to constitute a standardized sample representative of all cases of tuberculosis currently notified in France. An analysis of the patients' characteristics showed that cases of tuberculosis were discovered in equal numbers in three branches of medicine: industrial medicine and welfare centres, general medicine including (to a very small extent) private specialists, and hospital medicine (in-patients and out-patients). Most of the subjects in our study had clinical signs of tuberculosis at the time of diagno

After carrying out a complex investigation of the workers of a confections factory the authors detected 2 new cases of tuberculosis (0,5 0/00), with the aid of radiophotography and another 2 cases (3,4 per 1000 subjects examined) by bacteriological investigation of the subjects that coughed. These last 2 cases were detected between those that had a normal thoracic aspect on the radiophotographic film alone. The observation of the authors allows to conclude that a bacteriological investigation of the suspects following radiophotography is not sufficient and that this type of investigation shoul

We report a rare case of a solid variant of aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) of the right 4th rib. A 29-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital for an abnormal shadow on chest X-ray. Chest computed tomography (CT) demonstrated the lesion mass to be located in the area of the right 4th rib. Bone scintigram revealed a hot spot in the right 4th rib. The right 4th rib was resected en bloc with the parietal pleura, and adjacent intercostal muscles via right anterior thoracotomy. Postoperative pathological evaluation was consistent with a solid variant of ABC.

We report a very rare case of giant pericardial cyst with left ventricular compression on echocardiography. A 61-year-old man visited our hospital with a feeling of chest tightness. A cardiologist ruled out cardiac diseases of the patients and he was referred to us for examination and treatment of an abnormal left lung field shadow on chest x-ray. Chest computed tomography (CT) showed a 16×7.5 cm cystic mass in connect with the heart and diaphragm. Echocardiography showed that the cystic mass was compressing the left ventricle. Surgical resection was attempted by video-assisted thoracoscopic s

Two cases of inflammatory pseudotumor of the lung were reported. Case 1. A 68 year-old man was referred to our hospital because of an abnormal shadow on chest X-ray. He had a history of pneumonia in the right upper lobe five months before. The chest X-ray film revealed a coin lesion in the right upper lung field (S1), the same segment as the previous pneumonia. Although RPF and INH were administered for three months, the shadow did not change, and cough and sputum continued. In order to confirm the diagnosis, open thoracotomy was performed and microscopic findings of the resected tumor showed

Kasabach-Merritt phenomenon (KMP) is a rare condition that is associated with two rare vascular tumours: Kapossiform haemangioendothelioma (KHE) and tufted angioma (TA). A 2-year-old girl presented to our emergency room with a haemangioma and respiratory distress. The patient had a violaceous, palpable mass in the right upper chest since she was 5 months old. Severe anaemia, thrombocytopenia, coagulopathy, and hypofibrinogenemia were found. Chest x-ray revealed massive pleural effusion in the right hemithorax. Chest computed tomography (CT) scanning revealed right pleural effusion, multiple de

A 15-year-old boy with extralobar sequestration torsion is presented, who presented as an acute abdomen. Chest X-ray and computed tomography on admission revealed an apparent posterior mediastinal mass on the right side at the lower thoracic vertebral level. MR imaging, however, clearly showed scanty fluid around the mass and the subpleural fat layer between the vertebral body and the mass, suggesting its extrapulmonary and intrapleural cavity location. Its hemorrhagic nature was also suggested by the reduced signal on the in-phase as compared to out-of-phase chemical shift images, which helpe

Neurogenic tumours of the mediastinum in adults occur most often at the posterior mediastinum, majority of which are benign of nerve sheath in origin. A 72-year-old woman, known asthmatic, presented with chronic symptoms of hoarseness, dysphagia, chest heaviness, easy fatigability, cough, epigastric pain, feeling of abdominal fullness and choking with food intake and at a supine position. Treated for other disorders, routine chest X-ray incidentally found a homogenous convex radiodensity at the right paratracheal area; mass which was also observed with CT and 18F-fludeoxyglucose-positron emiss
