SETTING: Consumption of raw game meats is important for Inuit health and well-being but may sometimes increase risk of exposure to parasites. In Nunavik, following trichinellosis outbreaks in the 1980s caused by raw walrus consumption, a diagnostic test was developed for the region and offered to all Inuit communities by 1997. Urinary catheters are the main cause of hospital-acquired urinary tract infections among inpatients. Healthcare staff can reduce the risk of patients developing an infection by ensuring they give evidence-based care and by removing the catheter as soon as it is no longer necessary. An audit conducted in a Hampshire hospital demonstrated there was poor documented evidence that best practice was being carried out. Therefore a urinary catheter assessment and monitoring tool was designed to promote best practice and produce clear evidence that care had been provided.

An audit was conducted of the management of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting in children and young people in the national Irish paediatric cancer unit. Over three months, the anti-emetic medication and the incidence of nausea and vomiting in 50 consecutive patient episodes were recorded among 25 children receiving chemotherapy for diverse malignancies. BACKGROUND: Varicoceles are associated with a time dependent decline in testicular function. The pathophysiology and timing of this remains unclear. PURPOSE: The National Football League holds an annual combine where individual teams evaluate college football players likely to be drafted. As part of the combine, the players are evaluated with a medical history, physical exam, and review of imaging studies, and then they are rated medically as to their ability to participate in the NFL. OBJECTIVE: To determine the incidence of sexually transmitted infections (STI) among decriminalised and regulated sex workers in Victoria.
METHODS: The incidence of STI was calculated for individuals who attended the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre on more than one occasion. Results of initial screen specimens were not included. Follow up time was calculated in person months and used as the denominator with the number of "specified" STIs diagnosed over the study period as the numerator.

This study demonstrates the need for a confidential approach to medial information when the objective is to improve medical practices, as was the goal of the French National Committee for the reduction of maternal deaths. This approach is the exact opposite of a litigation where the goal is to determine "guilt". Confidential analysis of maternal deaths is not designed to find a guilty person, but rather to identify the mechanisms leading to a maternal death in order to correct the organizational or medical practice leading to failure. Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is a common condition presenting to Genitourinary Medicine clinics in the UK. It is unclear what is the best therapeutic option in the outpatient setting. A clinical audit of current standard of care in women presenting with PID was conducted. A total of 150 women were diagnosed clinically during a six-month period. AIM OF STUDY: This audit was designed to investigate the morphine prescribing pattern in a hospice.

In the first Wessex regional radiology audit, a retrospective comparison of pathology and radiology reports was made to determine rates of demonstration and reporting of colo-rectal carcinoma on barium enema. Barium enema films were analysed by peer review in cases of discrepancy. A review was undertaken of 103 patients with pharyngeal pouch presenting over a 10-year period. Management was conservative in 35 patients and 68 patients were treated using external diverticulectomy and cricopharyngeus myotomy. The fistula rate was 8.9% and median hospital stay was 7 days. The results of this large series are compared to other reported series, and a long-term follow-up showing clinical outcome is reported.
