Human papillomavirus (HPV) is an oncogenic DNA virus that plays a role in different cancer types. The aim of this study was to detect the prevalence and types of HPV and its relation with p16, EGFR and clinical findings in lung cancer. HPV and EGFR detection and genotyping of HPV were performed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and p16 by immunohistochemistry. Whole blood donors were enrolled from four blood banks located in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Libya and Oman, between 2016 and 2017. The first region-wide assessment of the National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups (NITAGs) conducted in 2023 in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region using the NITAG maturity assessment tool (NMAT) offered an opportunity to verify NITAG process indicators.
