[Endometrial steroid receptor during normal menstrual cycle and physiopathology of nidation].

Human uterine endometrial steroid receptor [estrogen (ER), progestin (PR) and androgen (AR) receptors] in the normal menstrual cycle were determined at the cellular level. Endometria with pathological out-of-phase findings or with hypoplastic uterus were evaluated for the concentration of steroid receptors, for a better understanding of their pathophysiology. ER and PR levels gradually rose toward the early secretory phase, remained at the maximum level during the mid-secretory phase and dropped to the lowest level during the late secretory phase. Especially nuclear PR reached the maximum leve

beta-Endorphin in hypophyseal portal blood: variations throughout the menstrual cycle.

Concentrations of beta-endorphin were measured in the venous effluent of the hypothalamus (hypophyseal portal blood) at various phases of the menstrual cycle and after ovariectomy in rhesus and pigtailed monkeys. In the rhesus, beta-endorphin concentrations were high during the mid- to late follicular phase [737 +/- 256 pg/ml (mean +/- SE)] and the luteal phase (1675 +/- 1108) of the menstrual cycle, but were undetectable (less than 133) at menstruation. Concentrations were also high in pigtailed monkeys during stages of the menstrual cycle other than at menstruation (4870 +/- 1090 pg/ml), but

Intrauterine device termination rates and the menstrual cycle day of insertion.

World-wide clinicians apparently prefer to insert the intrauterine device (IUD) during the bleeding phase of the menstrual cycle. To examine the benefits and risks of inserting IUDs at various times during the menstrual cycle, data on over 9000 women having copper T-200 IUD insertions were analyzed. During the first 2 months after IUD insertion: 1) rates of IUD expulsion are lower the later in the menstrual cycle ;he IUD is inserted; 2) rates of IUD removal for pain and bleeding and rates of accidental pregnancy, are higher the later in the menstrual cycle IUD is inserted, particularly after d

Analysis of seizure dispersion during menstrual cycle in women with epilepsy.

The correlation between seizures and menstrual cycle was studied in 69 females with epilepsy, mean age 28.7 years. Between 1975-1978 the patients had registered in standard diaries data of menstruation and seizures. Altogether 1237 complete menstrual cycles were collected with 6900 registered seizures. The computer analysis showed a significant increase of seizures frequency in the second phase of cycle with the peak on the first day of menstruation. During 7 days before menstrual bleeding 2137 seizures were noted while during 7 days after menstruation 1476 fits were registered. In 58% of case

Human cervical mucus and its mucous glycoprotein during the menstrual cycle.

Human cervical mucus was collected serially during the menstrual cycles of each of 10 healthy women. After fractionation by equilibrium density centrifugation in CsCl, the sugar composition of the fractions containing mucous glycoprotein (MG) was examined by gas-liquid chromatography. No cyclic variations were detected in the sugar composition of MG (including sialic acid) or in its electrophoretic behavior. The composition of the mucus varied greatly during the cycle. Near ovulation the ratio of proteins to MG was minimal. During the luteal phase this ratio rose quickly. The secretion of MG w

Correlating Menstrual Cycles and Cystic Fibrosis Symptoms in the Era of Highly Effective Modulators: Findings of the MENSTRUAL Study.

OBJECTIVES: Chronic disease symptoms fluctuate across the menstrual cycle, but such patterning is understudied in cystic fibrosis (CF), particularly in the post-cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator modulator (CFTRm) era. This study examined how CF symptoms change across the cycle, identifying which symptoms worsen, how severe they get, and when they occur. METHODS: Menstruating cisgender women with CF (ages 18-45) completed surveys and tracked 40 CF and menstrual symptoms daily using a customized app. We assessed symptom periodicity over a 28-day cycle using a cumulative link m

Monitoring Menstrual Health in Footballers: Considerations for Tracking Menstrual and Hormonal Contraceptive Cycles in the Field to Support Performance.

Monitoring menstrual health has gained popularity in sports like football as an opportunity to identify recurring symptoms or adverse symptoms related to the menstrual or hormonal contraceptive cycle; to recognize challenges related to low energy availability (LEA), low carbohydrate availability, overreaching/overtraining, and/or overall lifestyle stress due to their association with menstrual disturbance/dysfunction; to be informative in contextualizing athlete training status, e.g., training load and performance progression; and to promote and empower body/health literacy and overall health

Voice in different phases of menstrual cycle among naturally cycling women and users of hormonal contraceptives.

Previous studies have shown changes in women's behavior and physical appearance between the non-fertile and fertile phases of the menstrual cycle. It is assumed that these changes are regulated by fluctuations in sex hormone levels across the cycle. Receptors for sex hormones have been found on the vocal folds, suggesting a link between hormone levels and vocal fold function, which might cause changes in voice production. However, attempts to identify changes in voice production across the menstrual cycle have produced mixed results. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate chan

The effects of the menstrual cycle on physical and psychological parameters in female athletes.

Hormonal fluctuations across the menstrual cycle may influence physical performance and psychological well-being in female athletes. However, current evidence remains heterogeneous, partly due to inconsistent cycle phase determination and task-dependent outcome measures. This study aimed to describe phase-dependent changes in physical and psychological parameters across six hormonally validated menstrual cycle phases and to examine associations between these domains. Eighteen eumenorrheic female athletes from various sports (age 18-30 years; 23.6 ± 3.8 years) were assessed across six menstrual

[Endocrine genesis of the development of menstrual cycle disorders in reproductive age].

In recent decades, the Russian government has been committed to improving the country's demographic situation. Therefore, obstetricians and gynecologists pay special attention to women of reproductive age, whose reproductive system disorders can lead to infertility and the inability to conceive. Menstrual cycle disorders (MCDs) are a manifestation of various pathological conditions associated not only with disorders of the female reproductive system but also with general systemic and endocrine diseases. Since the 1980s, the incidence of MCDs has increased more than sevenfold. MCDs are characte

Menstrual cycles, lifespan, and anti-Müllerian hormone in cynomolgus monkeys.

The cynomolgus monkey (Macaca fascicularis) is an important experimental animal; however, its menstrual patterns, lifespan, and age-related changes in anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels remain poorly characterized. This study aimed to analyze these factors and evaluate the usefulness of Cynomolgus monkeys in ovarian function research. The age at menarche was examined in 21 cynomolgus monkeys, and the age at menopause and age at death were tracked in another 22 postmenopausal monkeys. In addition, AMH levels were analyzed in 74 cynomolgus monkeys aged 0 to 33 years to evaluate ovarian reserve

Ventilation differences in the menstrual cycle: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Minute ventilation (V̇E) may vary across the menstrual cycle due to cyclical changes in sex hormones, potentially exerting an exercise intensity dependent effect. OBJECTIVE: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to quantify differences in V̇E, respiratory frequency (RF), and tidal volume (VT) between the follicular and luteal phases at rest, during submaximal exercise (≤90 %V̇O2max), and at incremental maximum (100 %V̇O2max). METHODS: The systematic review adhered to PRISMA guidelines for conducting and reporting systematic reviews. Studies included healthy eumenorrheic

Effects of oral contraceptives and natural menstrual cycling on environmental learning.

BACKGROUND: Endogenous ovarian hormones as well as exogenous oestradiol and progesterone play an important role in cognitive processing. Specifically, these hormones play a role in different aspects of memory, both in terms of storage capacity and temporal duration of the mnemonic track. These hormones also have various effects on different types of memory (i.e., verbal, visuo-spatial, prospective). This study investigated the effects of hormones on topographic memory, a type of memory specifically needed to recall a pathway and to acquire spatial information about locations, distances, and di
