Hypermobility of the first tarsometatarsal (TMT 1) joint is suggested to be an important factor in the cause and progression of hallux valgus deformity. From a total of 138 patients who initially underwent either Chevron or Mitchell distal metatarsal osteotomies, 50 were available with complete pre- and postoperative data for study. Chevron osteotomies were performed on 60 feet (41 patients) and Mitchell osteotomies on 12 (nine patients). We reviewed 33 consecutive Mau-Reverdin osteotomies in 23 patients performed for correction of hallux abducto valgus from November 2010 to May 2013. All patients were followed up and evaluated for a mean of 401 days and median of 360 days after surgery.
