Benzoyl peroxide microsphere cream as monotherapy and combination treatment of acne.

This office-based case series describes the use of a new formulation of benzoyl peroxide (BPO) delivered via a porous microsphere cream vehicle in patients with mild to moderate acne vulgaris. While BPO has been used for many years as antimicrobial in the treatment of acne, in recent years its use has been increasingly encouraged as part of a strategy designed to reduce Propionibacterium acnes (P acnes) resistance to antibiotics. Historically, a major drawback to BPO treatment has been irritation, which may be concentration-dependent or vehicle-dependent. A new BPO microsphere cream formulatio

Gentamicin-loaded discs and microspheres and their modifications: characterization and in vitro release.

Osteomyelitis is an infection of the bone, and successful treatment involves local administration for about 6 weeks. Gentamicin is a very hydrophilic drug and tends to come out into the water phase when microspheres are fabricated using solvent evaporation method. Hence, spray drying is an option, and it was observed that the release rate tends to be fast when the particle size is small and large particles cannot be prepared by spray drying. In an effort to get better encapsulation efficiency and release rate, we have worked on the possibility of compressing the microspheres into discs and mod

Determination of cytokine responses using a multiplexed fluorescent microsphere immunoassay.

We used a multiplexedfluorescent microsphere immunoassay to develop a sandwich capture assay to assess simultaneously the production of thymus helper (TH) 1- and TH2-type cytokines in tissue culture supernatant obtained from stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells. The assay then was used to assess the cytokine production of patients with hyperimmunoglobulinemia E syndrome and in cord blood from neonates. The multiplexed assay has a reportable range of less than 10 to 50,000 pg/mL. For linearity and recovery studies, R2 values for the 6 cytokines ranged from 0.988 to 0.999 for samples sp

Comparative evaluation of acute cerebral vasospasm by the microsphere and the angiography techniques.

Experimental subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) induces an acute transient cerebral vasospasm. The goal of this study was to compare angiography with iterative measurements of regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) by the microsphere technique for tracking acute cerebral vasospasm after SAH. Cerebral vasospasm was induced in anaesthetised rabbits by injecting 1 ml of fresh blood in the cisterna magna. In a first experiment, the diameter of the basilar artery was measured by repeated angiograms over 60 min. In a second experiment, rCBF was measured over 60 min by the radioactive microspheres method wi

177Lu-labeled amidoxime-functionalized biodegradable microspheres for transarterial radioembolization of hepatocellular carcinoma.

PURPOSE: Transarterial radioembolization (TARE) is an important locoregional therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, clinically used yttrium-90 (90Y) microspheres are non-biodegradable and provide limited imaging capability, while biodegradable polymeric microspheres prepared using conventional radiolabeling strategies often exhibit poor radionuclide stability. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: We designed a biodegradable radiometal-chelating microsphere based on amidoxime-functionalized polylactic acid microspheres (PLA-g-PAO-Ms) engineered via electron beam-induced graft polymerization. Lactate-Weaponized Microspheres Amplify IL-2-Driven Immuno-Embolization for Hepatocellular Carcinoma.

The acidic and immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME) remarkably hampers the therapeutic efficacy of transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Herein, uniform CaCO3 nanoparticles encapsulated nickel-alginate microspheres (CaNPs/Ni-Alg MSs) were engineered using a microfluidic device, serving as an immune-regulated embolic agent to amplify TAE treatment of HCC. CaNPs/Ni-Alg MSs could adsorb His-tagged interleukin-2 (IL-2) and enable sustained release through coordination interactions between the His-tag and Ni2 +, thereby reducing systemic cytokine el

Porosity-engineered long-acting protopanaxadiol microspheres prevent CDK4/6 inhibitor-induced myelosuppression.

CDK4/6 inhibitor-induced myelosuppression frequently necessitates treatment interruption or dose reduction, yet effective pharmacological interventions specifically addressing this persistent hematological toxicity remain limited. Here, we report a porosity-programmed protopanaxadiol-loaded PLGA microsphere (PPD-MS) system for rapid-onset and long-acting myeloprotection during anticancer treatment. Using a continuous-flow O/W microsphere fabrication strategy, microsphere porosity and core-shell architecture were precisely regulated by tuning aqueous-phase osmotic pressure, establishing a contr

Micromotion friction microspheres massage cells to promote interfacial tissue fusion and regeneration.

Micromotion friction is a novel biomechanical stimulation approach that applies small mechanical forces to cells, mimicking the native biomechanical environment to enhance cellular physiological activity. Herein, combining microfluidic technology and photopolymerization, we report a micromotion friction site constructed by hydroxyapatite and doxycycline coupled to methacryloylated hyaluronic acid polyanionic hydrogel microspheres with a size of about 150 μm. The microspheres provided stable mechanical massage protection at the cell-tissue interfaces through electrostatic and steric repulsion i

Energy-replenishing, mitochondria-targeted hydrogel microspheres mitigate sarcopenia via cellular senescence amelioration.

Sarcopenia is a degenerative skeletal muscle disorder closely associated with aging, characterized by the gradual loss of muscle mass and function, which severely impacts the quality of life in the elderly. In general, the severity of sarcopenia varies significantly among different patients and across different muscle groups, which increases the complexity and challenge of sarcopenia treatment. Based on the core pathological mechanism of sarcopenia, namely the deficiency of Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD(+)) induced mitochondrial dysfunction, this study has developed a novel Energy-rep

Reprogramming the Diabetic Wound Microenvironment by Enzyme Cascade-Driven, ROS-Responsive Microspheres.

Diabetes represents a major global health burden, and diabetic wounds remain particularly challenging due to delayed healing and high infection risk. A dysregulated wound microenvironment, characterized by hyperglycemia, excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS), and persistent hypoxia, critically impairs angiogenesis and tissue regeneration. Herein, we report a multifunctional microsphere system integrating ROS-responsive curcumin-loaded nanoparticles, glucose oxidase (GOx), and catalase (CAT) to simultaneously regulate glucose, oxygen, and oxidative stress in diabetic wounds.
