An integrated evolutionary optimization and machine learning framework for predicting pharmacokinetics of nanocarrier-encapsulated drugs.

This study developed a machine learning framework for predicting the pharmacokinetic behavior of nanocarrier systems using integrated molecular, physicochemical, and formulation descriptors. A Multilayer Perceptron Regressor (MLPR) was employed as the baseline predictive model, while evolutionary optimization algorithms were used to optimize the neural-network architecture and training parameters. The framework was evaluated for predicting three pharmacokinetic endpoints: maximum concentration (Cmax), time to maximum concentration (Tmax), and area under the concentration-time curve (AUC). The

Improving dental disease diagnosis using a cross attention based hybrid model of DeiT and CoAtNet.

Accurate dental diagnosis is essential for effective treatment planning and improving patient outcomes, particularly in identifying various dental diseases, such as cavities, fillings, implants, and impacted teeth. This study proposes a new hybrid model that integrates the strengths of the data-efficient image transformer (DeiT) and convolutional attention network (CoAtNet) to enhance diagnostic accuracy. Our approach's first step involves preprocessing dental radiographic images to improve their quality and enhance feature extraction. The model employs a cross-attention fusion mechanism that

Nanosensor-Based Pattern-Generating Probe Accelerates Sepsis Diagnosis.

Biomimetic optical sensor arrays hold promising potential in differentiating nuances within intricate mixtures and biosamples. Nonetheless, developing a standalone pattern-generating sensor for multianalyte identification in clinical biofluids, without the necessity of complicated synthesis, presents significant challenges. Here, we introduce a nanosensor-inspired sensor array (NanoSA), composed of a nanoassembly incorporating three sensors, that exhibits multiple intermolecular fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) effects. This pattern-generating nanoassembly, featuring six channels,

Gradient boosting DD-MLP Net: An ensemble learning model using near-infrared spectroscopy to classify after-stroke dyskinesia degree during exercise.

This study aims to develop an automatic assessment of after-stroke dyskinesias degree by combining machine learning and near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). Thirty-five subjects were divided into five stages (healthy, patient: Brunnstrom stages 3, 4, 5, 6). NIRS was used to record the muscular hemodynamic responses from bilateral femoris (biceps brachii) muscles during passive and active upper (lower) limbs circular exercise. We used the D-S evidence theory to conduct feature information fusion and established a Gradient Boosting DD-MLP Net model, combining the dendrite network and multilayer pe

A fusion framework based on multi-domain features and deep learning features of phonocardiogram for coronary artery disease detection.

Phonocardiogram (PCG) signals reflect the mechanical activity of the heart. Previous studies have reported that PCG signals contain heart murmurs caused by coronary artery disease (CAD). However, the murmurs caused by CAD are very weak and rarely heard by the human ear. In this paper, a novel feature fusion framework is proposed to provide a comprehensive basis for CAD diagnosis. A dataset containing PCG signals of 175 subjects was collected and used. A total of 110 features were extracted from multiple domains, and then reduced and selected. Images obtained by Mel-frequency cepstral coefficie

Predicting cancer using supervised machine learning: Mesothelioma.

BACKGROUND: Pleural Mesothelioma (PM) is an unusual, belligerent tumor that rapidly develops into cancer in the pleura of the lungs. Pleural Mesothelioma is a common type of Mesothelioma that accounts for about 75% of all Mesothelioma diagnosed yearly in the U.S. Diagnosis of Mesothelioma takes several months and is expensive. Given the risk and constraints associated with PM diagnosis, early identification of this ailment is essential for patient health. OBJECTIVE: In this study, we use artificial intelligence algorithms recommending the best fit model for early diagnosis and prognosis of Ma

Inter-subject variability in brain connectivity predicts nicotine dependence severity and differentiates smokers via machine learning.

BACKGROUND: Tobacco use disorder (TUD) is a major public health issue with significant individual differences. A deeper understanding of its neurobiology and reliable biomarkers is needed. This study investigated whether inter-subject variability in resting-state brain functional connectivity (IVFC) could serve as such a marker for TUD. METHODS: Resting-state fMRI data from 123 male TUD patients and 123 healthy controls (HCs) were collected and analyzed. IVFC was computed within seven major brain lobes. Five machine learning models (random forest, gradient boosting, extra trees, multi-layer p

Thyroid disease classification using generative adversarial networks and Kolmogorov-Arnold network for three-class classification.

Thyroid disease classification is a critical challenge in medical diagnostics, requiring accurate differentiation between hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, and normal thyroid function. This study introduces an advanced machine learning approach that integrates generative adversarial networks (GANs) for data augmentation and Kolmogorov-Arnold networks (KANs) for classification. Various machine learning models including logistic regression, random forest, support vector machines, multilayer perceptrons, and KANs were trained and evaluated. The results indicate that the application of GAN-based da

Active physical human-exoskeleton interaction based on motion intention adaptive recognition and synchronous tracking.

Active physical human-exoskeleton interaction has been widely studied. However, the challenges of human motion intention recognition and synchronous tracking have not been well-addressed. In this article, a motion intention recognition method based on biophysical information fusion and adaptive learning was proposed to overcome the limitations of existing approaches. First, a lower-limb joint angle prediction model was developed by integrating surface electromyography (sEMG), historical joint angles and centers of gravity. The convolutional neural network, Mamba network, and multilayer percept

QuTILs: Open-Source Image-Based Infiltrating Immune Cell Detection for Research Application.

Stromal tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (sTILs), quantified via hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) tumor slides, are associated with improved response to chemotherapy and better overall survival (OS) in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Digitization of H&E slides offers the opportunity for image-based computational approaches to enumerate sTILs. We describe QuTILs, a research-based TIL enumeration approach using a multilayer perceptron-based framework trained on open-source H&E images using the QuPath software and executed on a standard computer. Milk powder adulteration identification and quantification based on shared encoder features using Raman spectroscopy.

Detecting adulterants in milk powder is challenging at low concentrations and in multi-adulterant mixtures. Therefore, precise detection is essential for milk-powder safety and quality control. This study proposed a Raman-based approach that combined data-driven soft independent modeling of class analogy (DD-SIMCA) with a multilayer perceptron (MLP). First, DD-SIMCA performed nontargeted screening to distinguish authentic from adulterated samples at low concentrations and in multi-adulterant mixtures, without prior knowledge of adulterant types. Next, a MLP with a shared encoder was applied to

Investigation of Lacosamide solubility in supercritical carbon dioxide with machine learning models.

Lacosamide, a widely used antiepileptic drug, suffers from poor solubility in conventional solvents, which limits its bioavailability. Supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO₂) has emerged as an environmentally friendly substitute solvent for pharmaceutical processing. In this study, the solubility of Lacosamide in SC-CO₂ was modeled and predicted using several machine learning techniques, including Gradient Boosting Decision Tree (GBDT), Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), Random Forest (RF), Gaussian Process Regression (GPR), Extreme Gradient Boosting (XG Boost), and Polynomial Regression (PR). [Application of an interpretable neural network framework based on the LASSO-proj algorithm for warfarin dose prediction].

Warfarin, a classic oral anticoagulant, is characterized by a narrow therapeutic window and considerable interindividual variability in dosing requirements. This makes precise dose adjustment challenging in clinical practice and increases the risk of bleeding or thrombosis. To improve dose prediction, this study developed a streamlined multilayer perceptron (MLP) model using real-world data from the International Warfarin Pharmacogenomics Consortium (IWPC) database. The LASSO-proj algorithm was applied for high-precision feature selection prior to model construction. The resulting model demons

A Machine Learning Approach to Predict Same-Day Discharge after Angiography Procedures.

Discharging patients from the hospital to care at home on the same day has been demonstrated to be as safe as overnight stays. The correct selection of patients who may undergo same-day discharge (SDD) is a significant challenge due to the large volume of variables that must be considered. This paper proposes a machine-learning approach to predict SDD after angiography procedures. Data from 3227 patients scheduled for angiography procedures, including information about geographical location, demographic characteristics, pre-existing diseases, and clinical procedure type, were used to train and
