Cachexia is a devastating, non-curable condition in many cancer patients that is marked by severe wasting of the muscle and fat tissue. Its prevention has been hampered by an insufficient knowledge of the underlying molecular mechanism(s) that lead to its pathogenesis. Suriben et al. (2020) now report the development and characterization of an antagonistic antibody for the previously identified GDF15-GFRAL axis that efficiently blocks tumor-induced body wasting in experimental animals.

Enophthalmos can be defined as a relative, posterior displacement of a normal-sized globe in relation to the bony orbital margin. Non-traumatic enophthalmos has a wide variety of clinical presentations and may be the first manifestation of a number of local or systemic conditions. It may present with cosmetic problems such as deep superior sulcus, pseudoptosis or eyelid retraction; or functional problems such as diplopia or exposure keratopathy. We describe a patient with fibroma of the vulva. The tumor had areas of marked hypointensity consistent with fibrosis on T1 and T2 weighted magnetic resonance (MR) images. The presence of abundant fibrous tissues on MR images enabled us to make a preoperative diagnosis of fibroma.

Lipoma of nasopharynx is a rare tumour. A lipoma situated at the junction of roof and posterior wall of nasopharynx is reported. Only four cases of lipoma of nasopharynx in adults have been previously reported. Use of cytology in making a pre-operative diagnosis of lipoma at this location is discussed.

Primary hyperparathyroidism may be caused by ectopic intrathymic parathyroid adenomas or hyperplastic parathyroid glands. Tumours of adipose tissue origin are relatively rare in the head and neck. Here, we report a case of an unfamiliar lipomatous lesion that involved the neck and mediastinum. A nil-comorbid man in his 40s presented with a slowly progressive anterior neck swelling of 3 years, which was diagnosed as lipoma by histopathological sampling.
