Late-onset aqueductal membranous occlusion treated neuroendoscopic procedure and consideration of its pathological findings: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Aqueduct of Sylvius stenosis/obstruction interferes with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow and leads to the non-communicating hydrocephalus. Acquired non-neoplastic causes of aqueduct of Sylvius stenosis/ obstruction include simple stenosis, gliosis, slit-like stenosis, and septal formation, but the detailed mechanisms are not clear. In the present study, we experienced a case of late-onset aqueductal membranous occlusion (LAMO) successfully treated by neuroendoscopic procedure, which allowed us to examine the pathology of the membranous structures of the aqueduct of Sylvius occlusion

Reverse Trans-Sellar Neuroendoscopic Management of a Large Rathke's Cleft Cyst Causing Obstructive Hydrocephalus: A Case Report.

Symptomatic Rathke's cleft cysts (RCCs) can be treated by surgical procedures, usually through an endonasal transsphenoidal corridor using either a microscope or an endoscope. We report a large suprasellar extended RCC causing obstructive hydrocephalus, which was efficiently managed by a novel surgical route named "reverse" trans-sellar approach using transventricular neuroendoscopy. A 48-year-old woman complained of persistent headache and a tendency to fall that had begun 6 months previously. The images obtained from MRI scan showed intra- and supra-sellar cystic masses occupying the third v

Neuroendoscopic Aspiration of Blood Clots in the Cerebral Aqueduct and Third Ventricle During Posterior Fossa Surgery in the Prone Position.

BACKGROUND: During surgery in the posterior fossa in the prone position, blood can sometimes fill the surgical field, due both to the less efficient venous drainage compared to the sitting position and the horizontally positioned surgical field itself. In some cases, blood clots can wedge into the cerebral aqueduct and the third ventricle, and potentially cause acute hydrocephalus during the postoperative course. OBJECTIVE: To illustrate a technique that can be used in these cases: the use of a flexible scope introduced through the opened roof of the fourth ventricle with a freehand technique

A pitfall of neuroendoscopic intraventricular hematoma removal - delayed obstructive hydrocephalus caused by a small remnant clot - case report - .

A 57-year-old female presented with a left putaminal hemorrhage, intraventricular hematoma (IVH), and acute obstructive hydrocephalus. Neuroendoscopic surgery was performed for the IVH. Three days after successful IVH removal and improvement of her consciousness, the patient lapsed into a comatose state due to hydrocephalus caused by obstruction of the mesencephalic aqueduct by a small remnant clot. The small clot was identified by constructive interference with steady state magnetic resonance imaging and was removed during a second-look operation. Even after the cerebrospinal fluid circulatio

A study of tryptophan metabolism via serotonin in ventricular cerebrospinal fluid in HIV-1 infection using a neuroendoscopic technique.

In this paper we report the study of tryptophan metabolism via serotonin in ventricular CSF in HIV-1 infection in order to investigate the origin of tryptophan metabolites in the human brain. The patients (n=4) were affected with non-communicating hydrocephalus. One of these also was suffering from HIV-1 infection. The CSF was withdrawn from different sites of the cerebral cavity with a neuroendoscopic procedure which allows an accurate exploration of all the cerebral ventricles. The measurement of tryptophan, 5-hydroxytryptophan, serotonin, 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid, and melatonin was carrie

CT ventriculographic identification and neuroendoscopic treatment of acquired hydrocephalus due to cerebral aqueduct lesions: a two-case report.

Hydrocephalus secondary to cerebral aqueduct lesions poses significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges, particularly when causative lesions are occult on conventional neuroimaging. We present two pediatric cases of acquired obstructive hydrocephalus, in which routine laboratory tests were unremarkable except for mildly elevated tumor markers. Both patients exhibited acute symptoms of intracranial hypertension. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated supratentorial hydrocephalus with periventricular edema but failed to visualize a definitive obstructive lesion. Subsequent cerebral v
