We are reporting a previously undescribed primary dermal melanocytic tumor identified by reviewing all dermal melanocytic tumors referred in consultation that did not qualify histologically as a previously described entity. From these cases, 8 were remarkably similar. We termed them "paraganglioma-like dermal melanocytic tumor" (PDMT) based on their nested growth pattern. This term is used descriptively and does not imply any histogenetic or biologic similarity to true paraganglioma. PDMT is primarily a tumor of the extremities of adult females (18-53 years, mean 35 years; males 2; females 6)

Blue nevi are common skin neoplasms that typically present as asymptomatic solitary papules, although they may rarely occur in an agminated configuration. We describe a case of agminated blue nevus in a segmental facial distribution associated with soft tissue hypertrophy and hypertrichosis in a 16-year-old boy and present a review of the literature. Although they are generally considered to be benign, concurrent soft tissue changes occurring within an agminated blue nevus should be investigated thoroughly to exclude alternate diagnoses.

Abdominal lymphangioma is a rare tumor in adults. The most common location is the mesentery, but this tumor occasionally develops in the pancreas. We report a case of pancreatic lymphangioma associated with blue rubber-bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) in a Japanese woman. The pancreatic lymphangioma spread extensively throughout the retroperitoneum without causing any symptoms for more than 4 years after its histological diagnosis by laparoscopic biopsy. Multiple hemangiomas were also seen in the mucous membranes and on the skin. The hemangiomatosis was segregated in the dominant fashion in her fam

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome is a rare congenital vascular malformation disease characterized by venous malformations affecting multiple organs throughout the body. Cases complicated with esophageal cancer are exceedingly uncommon. In April 2025, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, affiliated with Zhejiang University School of Medicine, admitted a patient with blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome complicated with esophageal cancer. The patient was treated using da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery. This system may provide a new solution for such complex cases due to its precision and minimally invasive capa

A 14-year-old girl, who had been diagnosed with blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome, was referred to our hospital because of iron deficiency anemia. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy revealed a dark and red-colored vascular malformation occurring just above the duodenal papilla. Because the lesion was regarded as the cause of the anemia, we performed polidocanol injection therapy with bile duct stenting. Since esophagogastroduodenoscopy performed a month later revealed a scarred ulcer, the bile duct stent was removed. She has been under observation as an outpatient without any symptoms.

Melanoma ex blue nevus (MEBN) is a rare, aggressive, and potentially lethal neoplasm. Distinguishing MEBN from an atypical cellular blue nevus can be very challenging. We report a diagnostically difficult case of MEBN with lymph node metastases, in which single nucleotide polymorphism array and fluorescence in situ hybridization were used to arrive at the correct diagnosis. It was also analyzed by the recently-introduced proprietary 23-gene expression signature test. To the best of our knowledge, this is the second reported case of MEBN analyzed by the 23-gene expression signature, which provi

BACKGROUND: Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare venous malformation disorder. Currently, there is no standard therapy for this disease. However, lauromacrogol, a sclerosant extensively utilized in the management of vascular malformations, has been applied in the treatment of BRBNS. Research on the combined therapy of sirolimus and lauromacrogol for the treatment of BRBNS remains limited.
CASE SUMMARY: Here, we report the case of a 12-year-old girl diagnosed with BRBNS. The patient presented with chronic anemia and skin "hemangioma." The examinations showed severe anemia, along w

Skin reaction may develop at the site of vaccine administration. A 54-year-old woman who developed a cellular blue nevus at the site of the combined tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccine injection four years prior to presentation is described. In addition to blue nevus, other reactions at combined tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis vaccine injection sites include abscess, deep reactive nodular infiltrates of mixed inflammation, and necrotizing granuloma. In conclusion, blue nevus can be added to the list of cutaneous events that can occur at Tdap vaccination sites.

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare vascular disorder characterized by venous malformations involving the skin and gastrointestinal (GI) tract. GI involvement may lead to chronic bleeding and iron deficiency anemia, most commonly presenting in younger individuals. We report the case of an 83-year-old male presenting with progressive fatigue and severe anemia (hemoglobin 5 g/dL), requiring multiple blood transfusions. His medical history was significant for recurrent anemia and prior gastrointestinal bleeding. Upper endoscopy was unremarkable; however, colonoscopy revealed multipl

Melanoma arising in blue nevus (MBN) is a rare, aggressive malignancy that can develop from a preexisting blue nevus or resemble a cellular blue nevus without a clear precursor. We present a diagnostically challenging case of MBN on the foot of a 13-year-old female, with two sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) showing heavily pigmented cells within the capsule and trabeculae. In contrast to the primary tumor, the cells within the SLNs contained bland spindled to epithelioid melanocytes with low proliferation and no significant cytologic atypia. Chromosomal microarray analysis was utilized to compare g

A 37-yr-old woman presented to the gynecology clinic with abnormal uterine bleeding in the setting of known, large uterine fibroids. Preoperative endometrial biopsy identified atypical melanocytic cells concerning for uterine melanoma. Care was transferred to the gynecologic oncology service for hysterectomy. Intraoperative findings included macular, blue-black pigmentation of the peritoneum of the bladder and cervix, which was resected and sent for frozen section, confirming melanocytic neoplasia. The hysterectomy revealed multiple tan leiomyomas up to 12 cm, and a distinct 3 cm black, incomp

RATIONALE: Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare vascular disorder consisting of multifocal venous malformations. Delayed diagnosis or misdiagnosis frequently occurs in patients without typical cutaneous lesions or gastrointestinal bleeding symptoms. This article reports a 10-year case of delayed diagnosis of BRBNS detected by capsule endoscopy.
PATIENT CONCERNS AND DIAGNOSIS: A 15-year-old girl presented with refractory iron-deficiency anemia (IDA) for 10 years, without any hemorrhagic signs or noticeable cutaneous lesions, which led to her obvious physical growth retardation. Ca

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare clinical entity characterized by multiple venous malformations (hemangiomas) of the skin and gastrointestinal tract. These hemangiomas usually cause episodes of occult gastrointestinal bleeding leading to iron deficiency anemia, and also carry a significant potential for serious hemorrhage. The 99mechnetium (99mTc)-labeled red blood cell scintigraphy has traditionally been utilized in the localization of occult bleeding sites in patients with suspected vascular malformations, angiodysplasia, and Meckel’s diverticulum. We report the incremental

BACKGROUND: Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus Syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare condition which usually manifests as multiple hemangioma-like skin and gastrointestinal lesions. The latter often present with chronic bleeding. There is no consensus regarding the optimal management of such patients. Although rare, complications such as intestinal intussusception might occur, demanding surgical treatment. Postoperative complications such as coagulation disorders can increase morbidity and should be timely addressed. This is the first report of a life-threatening postoperative disseminated intravascular coagulation

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare disorder comprised of venous malformation mostly involving the skin and gastrointestinal (GI) tract but can also involve other visceral organs. The most predominant site of GI tract involvement is the small bowel. In patients with GI lesions, treatment depends on the severity of bleeding, and extent of involvement. Conservative therapy with iron supplementation and blood transfusion is appropriate in cases with mild bleeding but in severe cases endoscopic and surgical interventions would be beneficial. Also, medical therapy with sirolimus signi

BACKGROUND: Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare congenital disease characterized by multifocal venous malformations. It remains a considerable challenge in treating the gastrointestinal (GI) venous malformations due to multiple lesions throughout the GI tract, and the likelihood of recurrence. We report a case study of BRBNS in the GI tract, in which GI venous malformations and related GI bleeding were successfully treated with a combination of multiple endoscopic procedures.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 17-year-old man was admitted to our hospital for dizziness and hypodynamia. The sym

BACKGROUND: A combined nevus most commonly consists of a blue nevus in combination with a Clark or Spitz nevus. Dermoscopically, combined nevus can mimic melanoma owing to the presence of dermoscopic features common to both types of lesions. Benign clinical and dermoscopic changes can occur in nevi over time, especially in children and young adults.
OBJECTIVE: To describe the dermoscopic evolution of a congenital combined nevus showing unusual dermoscopic features.
METHODS: Digital dermoscopic analysis was performed at the initial visit and after 8 months. The lesion was surgically excised a
