Vessel fractional flow reserve (vFFR) vs. optical coherence tomography in chronic coronary syndromes (VISION-FFR).

BACKGROUND: Fractional flow reserve (FFR) is the gold standard for evaluating the functional significance of coronary stenosis. With advances in methods based on computational fluid dynamics and three-dimensional vessel reconstructions, non-invasive assessment using indices such as vessel FFR (vFFR) has become feasible. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the association between vFFR and optical coherence tomography (OCT)-derived parameters in patients with chronic coronary syndromes (CCS). METHODS: In this single-center, prospective, observational study, patients with CCS and intermediate coronary sten

Novel fixative solutions with superior preservation of structure and antigenicity are suitable for optical clearing, tissue staining, and flow cytometry.

Fixation of tissues and cells is an essential step in histological analysis; however, structural deformation and fluorescence signal attenuation caused by fixatives often pose challenges. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of a newly developed fixative, the FM Fix, by comparing it with conventional fixation methods in tissue staining, optical clearing, and flow cytometry analysis. FM Fix demonstrated staining properties comparable to those of standard fixatives and showed superiority with respect to tissue structure retention. Optical clearing allowed the visualization of fluorescent

Blood flow analysis of retinal neovascularisations in a VLDLR mouse model using contrast-enhanced optical coherence tomography.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a major cause of global blindness that affects millions worldwide. Certain forms of AMD cause neovascularisations (NVs), which form retinal-choroidal anastomoses. This disrupts healthy haemodynamic patterns, and early detection and treatment are crucial for preserving vision. Here, we employ a custom-built optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging system to investigate these NVs in a very low-density lipoprotein receptor (VLDLR) knockout mouse model. Mice were imaged before, during, and after contrast agent injection, aiming to enhance our understandi

Optical flow prompts distractor-aware siamese network for tracking autonomous underwater vehicle with sonar and camera videos.

Underwater moving target tracking with sonar device is very challenging. Due to complex underwater environment, sonar acquired videos have domain-specific challenges like texture-similar backgrounds and variable visual attributes, impairing the performance of existing tracking models. To address these issues, we propose a visual tracking model named OFDTrack to overcome the limitations of existing methods. First, for moving target in sonar videos, a re-capture paradigm is proposed to search potential motion areas from rough prompts of the optical flow field, thus maintaining tracking in the ev

Speckle contrast optical spectroscopy for cuffless blood pressure estimation based on microvascular blood flow and volume oscillations.

This work introduces high-speed (390 Hz) speckle contrast optical spectroscopy (SCOS) to enable simultaneous measurements of multi-anatomic site microvascular blood volume and flow oscillations. Simultaneous blood flow and volume waveforms were extracted at two wavelengths on the wrist and finger, in reflectance and transmission mode, respectively. Blood volume changes (also known as photoplethysmography, or PPG) were determined based on intensity oscillations. Blood flow information was determined based on dynamic light scattering information encoded in the 2D spatial speckle pattern after re

Moving Object Detection Based on Optical Flow Estimation and a Gaussian Mixture Model for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems.

Most approaches for moving object detection (MOD) based on computer vision are limited to stationary camera environments. In advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), however, ego-motion is added to image frames owing to the use of a moving camera. This results in mixed motion in the image frames and makes it difficult to classify target objects and background. In this paper, we propose an efficient MOD algorithm that can cope with moving camera environments. In addition, we present a hardware design and implementation results for the real-time processing of the proposed algorithm. The propos

Simultaneous measurements of lymphatic vessel contraction, flow and valve dynamics in multiple lymphangions using optical coherence tomography.

Lymphatic dysfunction is involved in many diseases including lymphedema, hypertension, autoimmune responses, graft rejection, atherosclerosis, microbial infections, cancer and cancer metastasis. Expanding our knowledge of lymphatic system function can lead to a better understanding of these disease processes and improve treatment options. Here, optical coherence tomography (OCT) methods were used to reveal intraluminal valve dynamics in 3 dimensions, and measure lymph flow and vessel contraction simultaneously in 3 neighboring lymphangions of the afferent collecting lymphatic vessels to the po

Application of fractional flow reserve and optical coherence tomography examinations in a patient presenting with recurrent angina: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: We present the different roles of fractional flow reserve and optical coherence tomography in guiding treatment in a patient with recurrent chest pain. CASE PRESENTATION: A 66-year-old Chinese woman presented to our department for the third time for her recurrent chest pain. Her physical examination was unremarkable; her previous two angiography examinations indicated that there was a stenosis of 50 to 70% in her proximal left anterior descending coronary artery. Optimal medical therapy was applied, but her symptoms did not disappear. Coronary angiography was conducted again aft

Intrapapillary Hemorrhage With Adjacent Peripapillary Subretinal Hemorrhage and Reduced Blood Flow in the Optic Papillary Region Observed on Laser Speckle Flowgraphy.

Intrapapillary hemorrhage with adjacent peripapillary subretinal hemorrhage (IHAPSH), commonly observed in myopic eyes with tilted optic discs, typically resolves without treatment. Although IHAPSH cases have been rarely reported, no prior studies have assessed laser speckle flowgraphy (LSFG) in this context. We report a case of IHAPSH evaluated using LSFG. A 54-year-old woman presented with floater symptoms in her right eye upon awakening. She had no history of trauma or medication use. Her best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 1.2 in both eyes. Fundus examination and optical coherence tomo

Positive or negative feedback of optokinetic signals: degree of the misrouted optic flow determines system dynamics of human ocular motor behavior.

PURPOSE: The optokinetic system in healthy humans is a negative-feedback system that stabilizes gaze: slow-phase eye movements (i.e., the output signal) minimize retinal slip (i.e., the error signal). A positive-feedback optokinetic system may exist due to the misrouting of optic fibers. Previous studies have shown that, in a zebrafish mutant with a high degree of the misrouting, the optokinetic response (OKR) is reversed. As a result, slow-phase eye movements amplify retinal slip, forming a positive-feedback optokinetic loop. The positive-feedback optokinetic system cannot stabilize gaze, thu

Optic nerve head blood flow response to reduced ocular perfusion pressure by alteration of either the blood pressure or intraocular pressure.

PURPOSE: To test the hypothesis that blood flow autoregulation in the optic nerve head has less reserve to maintain normal blood flow in the face of blood pressure-induced ocular perfusion pressure decrease than a similar magnitude intraocular pressure-induced ocular perfusion pressure decrease. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twelve normal non-human primates were anesthetized by continuous intravenous infusion of pentobarbital. Optic nerve blood flow was monitored by laser speckle flowgraphy. In the first group of animals (n = 6), the experimental eye intraocular pressure was maintained at 10 mmHg us

Delayed transient optic neuritis after flow diverter placement with coil embolization for an asymptomatic paraclinoid internal carotid artery aneurysm: illustrative case.

BACKGROUND: Delayed optic neuropathy after flow diversion for paraclinoid internal carotid artery (ICA) aneurysms has mainly been reported in patients with preoperative mass effect; risk in asymptomatic, electively treated patients is unclear. The authors report transient, steroid-responsive optic neuritis after Pipeline Shield placement with coiling for an asymptomatic paraclinoid aneurysm. OBSERVATIONS: A woman in her 50s underwent elective flow diversion for a growing, asymptomatic left paraclinoid ICA aneurysm (10.4 mm). A Pipeline Shield and two coils were deployed uneventfully; she was
