Antimicrobial potentials of medicinal plant's extract and their derived silver nanoparticles: A focus on honey bee pathogen.

Infectious (or Communicable) diseases are not only the past but also the present problem in developing as well as developed countries. It is caused by various pathogenic microbes like fungi, bacteria, parasites and virus etc. The medicinal plants and nano-silver have been used against the pathogenic microbes. Herbal medicines are generally used for healthcare because they have low price and wealthy source of antimicrobial properties. Like medicinal plants, silver nanoparticles also have emergent applications in biomedical fields due to their immanent therapeutic performance. Here, we also expl

Effects of substrate moisture content on physiological development, performance, and gut microbiome of black soldier fly larvae during swine waste treatment.

Black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) composting is a sustainable approach for treating swine waste. BSFL's performance depends on its digestive enzyme activity, which is shaped and enhanced by the gut microbiome. Moisture content influences gut microbiome composition and function; however, it is often overlooked, and its role remains poorly understood. We evaluated the effects of three moisture levels (65%, 75%, and 85%) on the larval gut microbiome, digestive enzyme activity, larval growth, protein content, and contaminant removal. Microbial communities in larval guts and substrates were character

Ultrastructural insights of infection and biological control of Alternaria alternata Kl3 mediated leaf spot disease in kohlrabi.

Rapid shifts in agro-climatic conditions have accelerated the emergence and severity of fungal plant diseases necessitating continuous pathogen monitoring and development of sustainable control strategies. Consequently, plant-beneficial bacteria-based biological control is one such prime and widely used strategy. Leaf spot diseases caused by Alternaria spp. pose a serious threat to Brassica cultivation, yet etiological and mechanistic insights into kohlrabi (Brassica oleracea var. gongylodes) leaf spot disease remian limited. In this comprehensive study a dominant fungal isolate Kl3, was recov

Tolerance to heavy metals of bacteria from Brazilian deep aquatic environments.

Bacterial tolerance to heavy metals (HM) poses a significant risk to ecosystems and human health. This study evaluated tolerance to HM of 24 bacterial isolates from two deep aquatic environments in southern Brazil: the Guarani Aquifer System (GAS) and the Rio Grande Cone (RGC). GAS wells were in a region of intense agricultural activity, with water levels of iron, selenium and aluminum above regulatory limits. RGC is a deep-sea environment considered pristine, although presenting evidence of human impact. Bacillus, Lysinibacillus, Pseudomonas and Paenibacillus isolates were subjected to HM min

A lung microbial signature for postoperative recurrence in stage I-II non-small cell lung cancer.

BACKGROUND: Postoperative recurrence remains a prevalent and lethal threat to survival in early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), affecting approximately 20% of patients within five years. While emerging evidence implicates the lung microbiota and microbiota-related metabolites in carcinogenesis, their prognostic value for predicting NSCLC recurrence remains underexplored. METHODS: Using preoperative bronchoalveolar lavage fluid from 72 patients with stage I–II NSCLC (17 recurrence and 55 non-recurrence), we performed microbial 2bRAD-M sequencing to profile bacterial, fungal, and archa

Bacteriophage therapy against American foulbrood in honey bees: a PRISMA-guided systematic review.

American foulbrood (AFB), caused by the spore-forming bacterium Paenibacillus larvae, is the most destructive bacterial brood disease of Apis mellifera. Control is challenging because endospores persist for decades and antibiotic use is restricted by regulations, resistance, and residue concerns. Bacteriophages have re-emerged as a species-specific, residue-free strategy for AFB prevention and treatment. A PRISMA-guided systematic review was conducted searching PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science using the terms (bacteriophage OR phage) AND (honeybee OR Apis mellifera). A total of 90 records we

Bioaerosols and VOC emissions from landfill leachate treatment processes: Regional differences and health risks.

The landfill leachate treatment process (LLTP) is a crucial anthropogenic source of bioaerosols and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) with potential environmental impacts and on-site health risks to plant workers. However, factors influencing microbial aerosol and VOC emissions remain poorly understood. We sampled and analyzed bioaerosols and VOCs in two process sections (oxidation ditch [OD] and reverse osmosis membrane [RO]) of LLTPs in northern (NLF) and southern (SLF) China. Bioaerosol concentrations were highest in OD, and particle size predominantly ranged from 0.654.7 µm. Microbial comm

Growth-Promoting Characteristics of Fungal and Bacterial Endophytes Isolated from a Drought-Tolerant Mint Species Endostemon obtusifolius (E. Mey. ex Benth.) N. E. Br.

Endophytes are primarily endosymbiotic bacteria and fungi that colonize the interior tissues of their host plant. They enhance the host plant's growth and attenuate adverse effects of biological stress. Endophytic species of many indigenous plants are an untapped resource of plant growth-promoting microorganisms that can mitigate abiotic stress effects. Thus, this study aimed to isolate endophytes from the roots and leaves of the medicinal plant Endostemon obtusifolius to evaluate their in vitro growth-promoting capacities and drought tolerance and to characterize the most promising species. Substrate-specific microbial community shifts during mesophilic biodegradation of polymers in compost amended soil.

Plastics are widely utilized across various industries, but their persistent accumulation in the environment has become a major ecological concern. Biodegradable alternatives offer a potential solution to plastic pollution; however, their degradation behavior under environmentally relevant conditions remains underexplored. This study evaluates the aerobic biodegradation of four polymer materials: starch, commercial thermoplastic starch of polyester origin (TPS1), linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), and a co-polyester thermoplastic starch (TPS2), over 180 days at 25 °C in a compost-soil ma
