Severe Cutaneous Manifestation of Malignant Syphilis in a Patient with Behçet's Uveitis: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Syphilis exhibits a wide range of clinical presentations, mimicking various systemic and ocular diseases. Ocular syphilis, in particular, manifests with multiple presentations, ranging from anterior uveitis to panuveitis, making it a potential differential diagnosis for Behçet's uveitis. Here, we present a unique case of Behçet's panuveitis that was undergoing immunomodulatory therapy and was complicated by ocular syphilis. Notably, this case also featured rare cutaneous manifestations associated with secondary syphilis, commonly known as malignant syphilis. CASE PRESENTATION: A

Concurrent acute retinal necrosis and orbital inflammation: Report of 2 cases.

PURPOSE: To describe the rare entity of concurrent herpetic acute retinal necrosis (ARN) and orbital inflammation. OBSERVATIONS: Two cases of ARN with simultaneous orbital inflammation are described. A 40-year old male presented with a painful left eye and hand motion visual acuity (VA). Both panuveitis and orbital inflammation with involvement of the sclera and optic nerve were observed. He was initially treated with oral steroid therapy, after which the orbital inflammation improved but the panuveitis remained. A diagnostic anterior chamber paracentesis was positive for HSV-2 by PCR. He was

[The serology of toxoplasmosis in uveitis].

Determinations for decelerating the antitoxoplasma anticorps that have been effectuated for 696 uveas proved positivity at 123 aerums (17.6%). The repartition of the positive serology concerning the clinic form of the uvea has proved 48 iridocyclitis, 26 serous central corioretinals, 23 in panuveitis, 13 in posterior uveitis, 11 muscular chorioretinitis, 2 in hyalitis. Taking into consideration only the equal or less than 1:160 titrures, these have been at 7 iridocyclitis, 4 serous central chorioretinitis, 4 panuveitis, 3 posterior uveitis and 3 atrophic central chorioretinitis. Extraocular spread following evisceration for rapidly progressive intraocular tuberculosis.

We describe a case of right eye tubercular (TB) panuveitis with corneal involvement where repeated intraocular sampling was unsuccessful. Finally, evisceration and histopathology of ocular tissue confirmed the diagnosis of ocular tuberculosis. A chest X-ray showed signs of pulmonary TB. The patient was lost to follow-up but reported 2 months later with the right eyelid margin nodules with surface ulceration. Both eyelid and pulmonary lesions were resolved with anti-TB therapy.

Differential diagnosis of behçet uveitis.

The diagnosis of Behçet disease is clinical and based on the presence of characteristic ocular and systemic inflammatory manifestations. Patients may present with anterior, posterior, or panuveitis in one or both eyes. The differential diagnosis includes a variety of infectious and noninfectious causes of acute nongranulomatous anterior uveitis, intermediate uveitis, occlusive retinal vasculitis, focal or multifocal retinitis, and necrotizing retinitis. A course characterized by sudden onset with improvement followed by recurrence of inflammatory signs is most typical for Behçet uveitis.

[Nonspecific eye autoantibodies in uveitis].

Under certain pathologic circumstances autoantigens lead to the formation of autoantibodies. In uveitis, autoimmunologic phenomena will also be discussed. We studied 149 sera of uveitis patients for various organ specific and non-organ specific autoantibodies. We found antisarcolemal autoantibodies (ASA) mainly in patients with acute iritis (59% positive) but also in panuveitis (40%) and iridocyclitis (29%). On the other hand antiendothelial antibodies (AEA) could be found in 43% of patients with chorioretinitis. Antisinusoidal antibodies (SA) have been detected in iritis and panuveitis patien

Syphilitic Uveitis: Clinical Features, Treatment, and Outcome.

BACKGROUND Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection in which ocular involvement is relatively uncommon. This report describes the clinical presentation, treatment, and visual outcome of a patient with syphilitic uveitis. CASE REPORT A 52-year-old man with a history of sexual promiscuity was diagnosed with bilateral panuveitis secondary to syphilis. He experienced progressively worsening bilateral vision loss over 1 month. The diagnosis was confirmed by serological positivity for Treponema pallidum. The patient displayed human immunodeficiency virus negativity. At presentation, visual acuit

Syphilitic uveitis as the initial manifestation of HIV infection.

Syphilis is an uncommon cause of uveitis in HIV-infected patients. We report a case of bilateral panuveitis and describe its characteristics as the initial manifestation of HIV infection. A 74-year-old heterosexual male complained of blurred vision and floaters in both eyes for 40 days. Slit lamp examination showed diffuse keratic precipitates and cells in the anterior chamber of both eyes. Fundus examination revealed multiple small white dots and scattered retinal hemorrhage over the mid-equatorial retina with marked vitritis. Physical examination disclosed multiple erythematous papules over
