OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this program evaluation was 1) to report the demographic and clinical characteristics of Indigenous youth aged 15-24 with eating disorders (EDs) in Northwestern Ontario, Canada, and 2) to determine clinician-perceived facilitators and barriers to providing appropriate ED early intervention to Indigenous youth.
METHODS: A multimethod approach was used, collecting demographic and clinical data from 26 intake records at St. Joseph's Care Group in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Seven clinicians participated in semi-structured interviews to discuss barriers and facilitators to ear

To assess the potential for decreased condom use as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is scaled-up in Latin America, we examined HIV prevention method preferences (neither PrEP nor condoms, condoms only, PrEP only, or PrEP with condoms) within 1302 sexual partnerships reported by 397 HIV-negative men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TW) in Tijuana, Mexico. Using PrEP with condoms (56%) was preferred to using condoms only (24%), using PrEP only (17%), and using neither PrEP nor condoms (3%). Compared to using condoms only, using PrEP only was preferred within primary (adjusted o

Despite the critical role of clinical trials in advancing medicine, fewer than 5% of practicing physicians actively participate in clinical research. This gap is especially pronounced among African American physicians, where historical exclusion, structural barriers, and the lasting impact of unethical research practices have limited engagement with the research ecosystem. Yet data from the National Medical Association's Project IMPACT initiative show that interest is high: 70.5% of surveyed African American physicians expressed interest in conducting clinical trials, while only 23.5% had prio

Hydrocortisone (cortisol) is used daily in the practice of medicine and hand surgery. It has an effective use in a number of orthopedic conditions, including tendinitis, tenovaginitis, bursitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and joint inflammation. But are surgeons aware of how this important pharmaceutical agent was discovered and prepared for clinical trial and who was responsible for its first clinical application? How did medical doctors determine that, like penicillin, cortisone and its derivative hydrocortisone would have such a life-changing effect on certain medical conditions? The purpose o

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: A lack of public and health professional awareness about familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH) leads to an estimated 90,000 Australians remaining undiagnosed. The aim of this study was to establish the level of knowledge and awareness of FH in Australian general practices.
METHOD: A qualitative descriptive methodology was used to explore baseline knowledge and perceptions of practice staff about diagnosing and managing FH. Overall, 63 interviews were conducted with general practice staff at 15 practices taking part in a National Health and Medical Research Council par

The prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs) requires a tripartite partnership between clinicians and carers, managers and government/Department of Health (DoH) across the whole health and social care community. Mandatory surveillance of meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia and Clostridium difficile infection has shown a significant fall from peak numbers in 2003/04 and 2006, respectively, and there is now a zero tolerance approach to preventable infections and poor practice. Success so far has been based on senior management commitment, enhanced rea

BACKGROUND: Street sex workers (SSWs) are a highly marginalised and stigmatised group who carry an extremely high burden of unmet health need. They experience multiple and interdependent health and social problems and extreme health inequality. Despite high levels of chronic physical and mental ill-health, there is little evidence of effective healthcare provision for this group. They are often considered 'hard to reach', but many individuals and organisations have extensive experience of working with this group.
METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional survey of professionals who work with SS

Primary care serves as the first point of contact for many patients and offers important opportunities to expand participation in clinical and translational research among rural and less visible communities. However, geographic distance, workforce limitations, competing clinical demands, and limited alignment between research and local priorities have constrained rural primary care participation in research activities. In 2024, the National Institutes of Health launched the CARE for Health™ initiative to integrate research within routine primary care settings and engage rural communities. As p

This article considers practical strategies to help nurses working in care homes meet the religious needs of people with dementia, including attending services in homes or churches, supporting them in private prayer and at the end of life. It also considers the characteristics of person-centred care for such residents and how the Mental Capacity Act 2005 may be called on to support religious needs as dementia advances. To achieve good practice in all these aspects, staff in care homes should work in partnership with local faith communities and ensure they are aware of residents' life histories

INTRODUCTION: Health systems are partnering with social service organizations (SSOs) to establish health-related social needs (HRSN) programs, yet best practices have not been established.
METHODS: This study assessed the implementation of a partnership between one accountable care organization (ACO) and SSOs in Massachusetts' Medicaid Flexible Services Program (FSP) from 2020 to 2023 to address food and housing insecurity. To be FSP-eligible, individuals needed to be in the ACO, have food or housing insecurity, and meet specific health criteria. Quantitative measures of reach, enrollment, an

Research ethics frameworks used in South Africa view Deafness from a biomedical perspective. Unfortunately, this could hinder research access to Deaf communities. Deaf-centric best practices draw from sociocultural perspectives instead. Motivated by this lack of Deaf-centric provisions for research with Deaf communities in the existing legal ethical frameworks in South Africa, this article examines best practices for gaining access to Deaf communities based on a broader study on South African Sign Language place names. The article synthesises ethical guidelines from literature and infuses them

INTRODUCTION: Recently we have recorded some progress against the transmission of poliovirus in the African Region. This is attributable to a number of factors, including commitment of global partnerships against polio, improvement of existing strategies as well as a number of innovations in response to the disease in the Region.
METHODS: The WHO Regional Office in Africa documented these practices that led to the noticeable progress in the polio eradication initiative in the African Region, as lessons learnt and as part of polio legacy planning. The documentation exercise covered eight count

To address systems failures and promote a safer management of newborn jaundice, we propose an 'aviation safety standard' for newborn health-care services during the first week after birth. Systems failure in newborn jaundice management has been characterized by lapses in concern, loss of continuity, and delays in care by multiple providers at multiple sites. Components for a six-step national strategy to prevent severe neonatal hyperbilirubinemia and possibly kernicterus are being implemented as delineated in the 2004 AAP guidelines. The clinical guidelines for safer and evidence-based practic

Effective implementation of evidence-based practices in community settings requires balancing scientific rigor with community partnership principles. While frameworks exist for documenting modifications to intervention delivery, no comparable approach addresses adaptations to research protocols themselves, particularly when community-based participatory research values are in tension with methodological ideals. We conducted a retrospective analysis of a disrupted hybrid effectiveness-implementation study of Prevent-Teach-Reinforce for Young Children within public early intervention services in

OBJECTIVES: To map and assess the quality of guidelines developed by or in partnership with the WHO on infectious diseases with a high risk of causing public health emergencies.
STUDY DESIGN: Cross-sectional audit study.
METHODS: A search of the WHO website and MAGICapp was conducted to identify guidelines on treatment, management, diagnosis, prevention, and surveillance of the WHO's priority list of diseases. When these sources yielded no results, the AI search engine Perplexity was used to expand the search for locally developed WHO partner guidelines. Eligible guidelines were evaluated by

BACKGROUND: Multiple and concurrent sexual partnerships have been identified as southern Africa's key behavioural driver of HIV, resulting in calls to make partner reduction programming central to an intensified HIV prevention focus. Various efforts are currently being made in the region in response to this call. Such efforts will likely have as limited success as past prevention efforts if the cultural milieu in which sexual partnering practices are located and reproduced remains poorly understood, unaccounted for, and unaddressed in prevention programming.
METHODS: Focussed ethnographic dis

PURPOSE: The purpose of this integrative review was to examine shame as a hidden determinant of outcomes among patients living with obesity and chronic leg and foot ulcers and to offer evidence-based strategies for wound, ostomy, and continence (WOC) nurses to recognize, mitigate, and transform shame in clinical practice.
DESIGN: Integrative review and practice synthesis.
SEARCH STRATEGY: Targeted integrative review of literature (2020-2025) using PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Cochrane databases with supplemental ancestry or hand searching. Topics included weight stigma, psychosocial determi

Despite increased emphasis on disseminating research results beyond academic outlets, effective dissemination to non-academic audiences remains a challenge. We describe a collaborative, youth-driven participatory approach to developing infographics for sharing research results from a study on the health and safety of hired Latine child farmworkers in North Carolina. Academic investigators partnered with rural youth from farmworker families participating in a youth leadership program. We detail the step-by-step infographic development and dissemination process and reflect on lessons we learned

BACKGROUND: Sickle cell disease (SCD) is one of the most common inherited blood disorders worldwide, disproportionately affecting populations in sub-Saharan Africa, India, the Middle East, and the Caribbean. Despite scientific advances in diagnostics, treatment, and emerging curative options, progress toward reducing the global burden of SCD remains hindered by fragmented efforts, inequities in access, and limited health system integration. Global partnerships are increasingly recognized as essential for fostering collaboration, aligning priorities, and ensuring that resources are deployed eff

BACKGROUND: Health care databases contain a wealth of information that can be used to develop programs and mature health care systems. There is concern that the sensitive nature of health data (eg, ethnicity, reproductive health, sexually transmitted infections, and lifestyle information) can have significant impact on individuals if misused, particularly among vulnerable and marginalized populations. As academic institutions, nongovernmental organizations, and international agencies begin to collaborate with low- and middle-income countries to develop and deploy health information technology
