[Evaluation of cerebral perfusion in a patient with chronic occlusive cerebrovascular disease using MRI perfusion-weighted imaging (PI)].

Ten cases with chronic occlusive cerebrovascular disease which presented cerebral arterial occlusion without showing extended high intensity area on their brain MRI T2 weighted imaging, were evaluated by MRI Perfusion-weighted imaging (PI) and correlated SPECT (123 I-IMP). Each average of PI parameter indicated misery perfusion, and was mostly detected by time to peak and rMTT imaging.

Increased myocardial perfusion at rest and diminished perfusion reserve in patients with angina and angiographically normal coronary arteries.

Angiographically normal coronary arteries are found in a substantial number of patients evaluated for angina pectoris. One third to one half of such patients demonstrate abnormalities of myocardial perfusion or metabolism when evaluated with invasive techniques. This study was designed to determine whether angina in such patients is attributable to abnormalities of perfusion at rest, maximal perfusion or vasodilator reserve and whether any identified abnormalities were global or regional in nature. Positron emission tomography was performed with oxygen-15-labeled water (H2(15)O) and oxygen-15-

Retrograde perfusion of the dorsalis pedis artery versus traditional distal perfusion catheter use in venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.

OBJECTIVE: Limb ischemia is a persistent problem in femoral venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO), with clinically significant adverse events and/or poor outcomes occurring in 10% to 70% of patients. The Extracorporeal Life Support Organization recommends the use of a distal perfusion catheter (DPC), but in patients in whom proximal femoral artery access is challenging or no longer viable, a more distal DPC placement may be necessary. Using a dynamic mock flow loop of adult femoral VA-ECMO, we investigated the hemodynamic feasibility of retrograde dorsalis pedis artery DPC

Real-World Analysis of Hypothermic Oxygenated Perfusion and Normothermic Machine Perfusion in Liver Transplantation: An International Cohort Study.

OBJECTIVE: To report real-world data on hypothermic oxygenated perfusion (HOPE) and normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) in liver transplantation (LT). SUMMARY BACKGROUND DATA: Real-world comparisons between HOPE and NMP are limited and methodologically challenging due to heterogeneity in donor and recipient risk profiles and regional differences in practice patterns. METHODS: This international cohort study analyzed consecutive NMP-preserved LTs performed at 15 predominantly North American centers between 2021 and 2025. Outcomes were compared with the European HOPE-REAL cohort, comprising H

Impact of normothermic regional perfusion on ex vivo lung perfusion outcomes in donation after circulatory death lung donors.

OBJECTIVES: Ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) is commonly used to assess extended-criteria donor lungs, particularly from donation after circulatory death (DCD) donors. Normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) is increasingly used in DCD procurement, but its impact on EVLP outcomes remains unclear. METHODS: This study included 187 DCD lungs perfused between October 2021 and August 2024 at 2 centralized EVLP facilities. Donor demographics, EVLP characteristics, and radiographs obtained during EVLP were analyzed. RESULTS: In total, 160 lungs were assessed by EVLP after rapid procurement; 13 of these

Impaired renal graft perfusion due to malignant hyperthermia in kidney transplantation: early reduced graft perfusion by Doppler ultrasonography.

Malignant hyperthermia (MH) is a potentially life-threatening clinical reaction originating from uncontrolled calcium release from skeletal muscle cells triggered by volatile anaesthetic agents or succinylcholine (MH-trigger drugs). MH in a kidney transplant recipient jeopardises both graft and recipient survival.

Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound of Mouse Models of Hindlimb Ischemia Reveals Persistent Perfusion Deficits and Distinctive Muscle Perfusion Patterns.

OBJECTIVE: Mouse models of hindlimb ischemia (HLI) are used to study peripheral arterial disease and evaluate novel therapies. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is a noninvasive perfusion measurement technique that is increasingly being employed in these models. The objective of this study was to evaluate two models of severe HLI by CEUS to characterize perfusion recovery and muscle perfusion patterns. METHODS: Mice undergoing double femoral artery ligation were measured by CEUS and laser Doppler perfusion imaging (LDPI) at baseline and 1-150 d postsurgery. A second group undergoing femoral

Extracardiac findings with increased perfusion during clinical O-15-H2O PET/CT myocardial perfusion imaging: A case series.

BACKGROUND: Coincidental extracardiac findings with increased perfusion were reported during myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) with various retention radiotracers. Clinical parametric O-15-H2O PET MPI yielding quantitative measures of myocardial blood flow (MBF) was recently implemented at our facility. We aim to explore whether similar extracardiac findings are observed using O-15-H2O. METHODS AND RESULTS: All patients (2963) were scanned with O-15-H2O PET MPI according to international guidelines and extracardiac findings were collected. In contrast to parametric O-15-H2O MBF images, extra

Effect of cerebrospinal fluid pressure elevation on spinal cord perfusion during aortic cross-clamping with distal aortic perfusion.

OBJECTIVES: Distal aortic perfusion (DaP) is a widely accepted protective adjunct facilitating early reinstitution of visceral perfusion during extended thoracic and thoraco-abdominal aortic repair. DaP has also been suggested to secure distal inflow to the paraspinal collateral network via the hypogastric arteries and thereby reduce the risk of spinal cord ischaemia. However, an increase in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure is frequently observed during thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm repair. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of DaP on regional spinal cord blood flow (SCBF)

A Prospective, Comparative Study of Ventilation-Perfusion Planar Imaging and Ventilation-Perfusion SPECT for Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension.

This study compared the diagnostic performance of ventilation-perfusion (V/Q) planar imaging and V/Q SPECT and determined whether combining perfusion SPECT with low-dose CT (Q-LDCT) may be equally effective in a prospective study of patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). V/Q scanning is recommended for excluding CTEPH during the diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension (PH). However, V/Q planar imaging and V/Q SPECT have yet to be compared in patients with CTEPH. Methods: Patients with suspected PH were eligible for the study. PH attributable to left heart disease or l

The serial changes of perfusion index in preterm infants with patent ductus arteriosus: is perfusion index clinically significant?

BACKGROUND: Perfusion Index (PI) which reflects the peripheral blood flow may help early detection and treatment decision of hemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus (hsPDA) in preterm infants. The present study is designed to analyze the usefulness of PI level in early detection of hsPDA in preterm infants. METHODS: Preterm infants born before 36 gestational weeks were assessed for PI and simultaneous echocardiography. Based on echocardiography, each infant is categorized into no-PDA (group 1), non-hsPDA (group 2) and hsPDA (group 3). Heart rate (HR), mean arterial pressure (MAP)

Validation and calibration of an electrical analog model of human liver perfusion based on hypothermic machine perfusion experiments.

PURPOSE: Hypothermic machine perfusion (HMP) is reviving as a better preservation method for donor livers than the golden standard of cold storage, but still faces challenges such as the risk for endothelial damage and flow competition between the arterial and portal venous inflow. Therefore, we previously developed an electrical analog model to investigate the effect of HMP settings on the human liver hemodynamics. While the model provided plausible results, it is based on a number of assumptions and its performance was never subjected to experimental validation. To this end, we present a new

Effects of hemodynamics on global and regional lung perfusion: a quantitative lung perfusion study by magnetic resonance imaging.

BACKGROUND: Cardiac hemodynamics affect pulmonary vascular pressure and flow, but little is known of the effects of hemodynamics on lung perfusion at the tissue level. We sought to investigate the relationship between hemodynamic abnormalities in patients with left heart failure and global and regional lung perfusion using lung perfusion quantification by magnetic resonance imaging. METHODS AND RESULTS: Lung perfusion was quantified in 10 normal subjects and 28 patients undergoing clinically indicated left and right heart catheterization and same day research cardiac magnetic resonance imagin
