The Intuitive Eating Scale-3: Development and psychometric evaluation.

Intuitive eating has been found to protect against disordered eating and preserve well-being. Yet, there are methodological (length), conceptual (inconsideration of medical, value-based, and access-related reasons for food consumption), and psychometric (item wording) concerns with its most common measure, the Intuitive Eating Scale-2 (IES-2). To address these concerns, we developed the IES-3 and investigated its psychometric properties with U.S. community adults. Across three online studies, we evaluated the IES-3's factorial validity using exploratory factor analysis (EFA; Study 1; N = 957;

Psychometric and network analysis of kinesiophobia in Iranian surgical patients.

Kinesiophobia, the fear of movement, can significantly impede an individual's ability to engage in daily activities. This fear often stems from past traumatic experiences or witnessing others in pain, leading to an increased fear of injury. This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia among Iranian post-surgery patients. A methodological study conducted in 2023 involved a sample of 400 post-surgery patients selected through convenience sampling. The translated scale underwent psychometric evaluation, including network anal

Exploring the Loss Aversion Scale's psychometric properties in Spain.

Loss aversion is a psychological construct defined as a tendency to value potential losses more than gains in a situation that requires decision-making. The Loss Aversion Scale (LAS, eight items) measures an individual's loss aversion to various situations. However, the generalization of its psychometric properties to different population groups is unknown. This study aimed to validate the LAS instrument for use among Spanish university adults. To this end, two studies were conducted: a content validity study calculating the substantive validity (N = 24) of the instrument's translation from or

Psychometric properties of the German Penn Alcohol Craving Scale.

Craving for alcohol is an important diagnostic criterion in alcohol use disorder (AUD) and an established predictor of future relapse. The 5-item Penn Alcohol Craving Scale (PACS) is one of the most widely used questionnaires to quantify craving and has been translated into different languages. It is assumed that the PACS constitutes one factor, although theoretical considerations suggest an additional second factor. We conducted stability and factor analyses (principal component and confirmatory factor analyses) of the German PACS (PACS-G) in samples of patients with AUD from the following th

Psychometric properties of the measure of achieved capabilities in homeless services.

BACKGROUND: Purposeful participation in personally meaningful life tasks, enjoyment of positive reciprocal relationships, and opportunities to realize one's potential are growth-related aspects of a meaningful life that should be considered important dimensions of recovery from homelessness. The extent to which homeless services support individuals to achieve the capabilities they need to become who they want to be and do what they want to do is, in turn, an important indicator of their effectiveness. In this study, we developed a measure of achieved capabilities (MACHS) for use in homeless se

Psychometric properties of the Parent Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire.

OBJECTIVE: To examine the psychometric properties of the Parent Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (PEDE-Q), developed to improve eating disorder (ED) assessment among youth by including parents as informants. METHODS: A multi-site, transdiagnostic sample of 355 adolescents with EDs completed the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q) and their parents completed the PEDE-Q. RESULTS: The internal consistencies of the PEDE-Q subscales were on par with established EDE-Q ranges (.73 to .90), both when examined using the original four-factor EDE-Q subscales and the seven-item, t

Psychometric properties of the PSWQ in a sample of pregnant and postpartum women.

BACKGROUND: Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)-characterised by excessive and uncontrollable worry-is the most frequently diagnosed anxiety disorder during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Identification of GAD often relies on assessment of its cardinal feature, pathological worry. The Penn State Worry Questionnaire (PSWQ) is the most robust measure of pathological worry to date but has not been extensively evaluated for use during pregnancy and the postpartum period. This study evaluated the internal consistency, construct validity, and diagnostic accuracy of the PSWQ in a sample of pregn

Development and Psychometric Validation of the Olfactory Dysfunction Outcomes Rating.

IMPORTANCE: Olfactory dysfunction (OD) is an increasingly common and morbid condition, especially given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, the ability to reproducibly measure smell loss-associated quality of life (QOL) and its response to treatment is paramount. OBJECTIVE: To develop and validate a concise and visually appealing smell loss-associated QOL patient-reported outcome measure for OD. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: A secondary analysis of comments to an online survey by 1000 patients with olfactory dysfunction published in 2013 was used as the primary source to generate items

A network psychometric approach to neurocognition in early Alzheimer's disease.

In a typical pattern of Alzheimer's disease onset, episodic memory decline is predominant while decline in other neurocognitive domains is subsidiary or absent. Such descriptions refer to relationships between neurocognitive domains as well as deficits within domains. However, the former relationships are rarely statistically modelled. This study used psychometric network analysis to model relationships between neurocognitive variables in cognitive normality (CN), amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI), and early Alzheimer's disease (eAD). Gaussian graphical models with extended Bayesian in

Further Exploration of the Psychometric Properties of GamTest: A Rasch Analysis.

GamTest is a self-rating scale of negative consequences of gambling, included in the popular responsible gambling tool Playscan as part of an overall risk assessment and feedback feature. Two previous psychometric evaluations of this instrument yielded contradictory results: in an online high-gambling population, a five-factor model was supported and the instrument had overall good psychometric properties, but in a low-gambling population, the same factor structure was not supported. Because GamTest is used with both low- and high-gambling populations, more psychometric research is needed to f

The development and psychometric properties of a self-report Catastrophizing Questionnaire.

Catastrophizing is a cognitive process that can be defined as predicting the worst possible outcome. It has been shown to be related to psychiatric diagnoses such as depression and anxiety, yet there are no self-report questionnaires specifically measuring it outside the context of pain research. Here, we therefore develop a novel, comprehensive self-report measure of general catastrophizing. We performed five online studies (total n = 734), in which we created and refined a Catastrophizing Questionnaire, and used a factor analytic approach to understand its underlying structure. We also asses

The Index of Productive Syntax: Psychometric Properties and Suggested Modifications.

PURPOSE: The Index of Productive Syntax (IPSyn) is a well-known language sample analysis tool. However, its psychometric properties have not been assessed across a wide sample of typically developing preschool-age children and children with language disorders. We sought to determine the profile of IPSyn scores by age over early childhood. We additionally explored whether the IPSyn could be shortened to fewer items without loss of information and whether the required language sample could be shortened from a current required number of 100 utterances to 50. METHOD: We used transcripts from the

Statistical approaches to identifying lapses in psychometric response data.

Psychometric curve fits relate physical stimuli to an observer's performance. In experiments an observer may "lapse" and respond with a random guess, which may negatively impact (e.g., bias) the psychometric fit parameters. A lapse-rate model has been popularized by Wichmann and Hill, which reduces the impact of lapses on other estimated parameters by adding a parameter to model the lapse rate. Since lapses are discrete events, we developed a discrete lapse theory and tested a "lapse identification" algorithm to identify individual outlier trials (i.e., potential lapses) based upon an approxim

Psychometric Evaluation of the Child and Parent Versions of the Coping Questionnaire.

The Coping Questionnaire (CQ)-child and parent version-is an idiographic measure of youth's perceived ability to cope in anxiety provoking situations. Participants (N = 442; aged 7-17) met DSM-IV criteria for separation anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, or social anxiety disorder. The internal consistency of the CQ was supported, and retest reliability and parent/child agreement were, as expected, modest. The CQ scores were significantly correlated in the expected direction with measures of anxiety symptoms and functioning, providing evidence of convergent and divergent validity.

Psychometric properties of the Neuropsychiatric Inventory for adults with intellectual disability.

BACKGROUND: Problem behaviours are common among people with intellectual disabilities (ID), but psychometrically evaluated instruments for assessing such behaviours are scarce. The present study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Neuropsychiatric Inventory-Intellectual Disability (NPI-ID). METHOD: We assessed 108 residents with intellectual disabilities living in group-homes using the NPI-ID, which included the 12 symptoms of the original NPI-Nursing Home and two supplementary symptoms: self-injurious behaviour and impulsive risk-taking behaviour. RESULTS: The NPI-ID showed adequat

Clinical utility and psychometric properties of the Apathy Evaluation Scale.

The Apathy Evaluation Scale (AES) is a tool utilized with individuals with brain injury, neurocognitive disorders, and other mixed populations to quantify and characterize apathy in adults. The scale "treats apathy as a psychological dimension defined by simultaneous deficits in the overt behavioral, cognitive, and emotional concomitants of goal-directed behavior." It has three versions: self-rated (AES-S), clinician-rated (AES-C), and informant-rated (AES-I). Using factor analysis, Marin and colleagues identified three factors for the scale, including general apathy, disinterest or amotivatio
