Reduction of Inflammatory and Noninflammatory Lesions with Topical Tyrothricin 0.1% in the Treatment of Mild to Severe Acne Papulopustulosa: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Antibiotic-induced drug resistance requires new approaches in topical acne treatment. Tyrothricin is known to produce no resistance. In this study, it was tested for the first time in topical acne treatment. The efficacy and tolerability of topical tyrothricin 0.1% was evaluated. METHODS: A randomized, active comparator-controlled, exploratory, observer-blind clinical study was conducted in 24 patients with acne papulopustulosa. Randomization on a split-face was either tyrothricin versus clindamycin + benzoyl peroxide (BPO) (n = 12) or tyrothricin versus BPO 5% (n = 12). The

Comparison of systemic mycophenolate mofetil with topical clobetasol in lichen planopilaris: a parallel-group, assessor- and analyst-blinded, randomized controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Lichen planopilaris (LPP) is the most common cause of inflammatory immune-mediated cicatricial alopecia. If not diagnosed and treated properly, it may lead to irreversible hair loss with a devastating impact on quality of life. However, treatment can be a challenge. In an area lacking these sorts of studies, we conducted a randomized controlled trial (RCT) to study the tolerability and therapeutic effects of topical clobetasol versus systemic mycophenolate mofetil (MMF). METHODS: A randomized, assessor- and analyst-blinded controlled trial was conducted in 60 patients with LPP i

Topical rapamycin as a treatment for fibrofolliculomas in Birt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome: a double-blind placebo-controlled randomized split-face trial.

BACKGROUND: Birt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome (BHD) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder characterised by the occurrence of benign, mostly facial, skin tumours called fibrofolliculomas, multiple lung cysts, spontaneous pneumothorax and an increased renal cancer risk. Current treatments for fibrofolliculomas have high rates of recurrence and carry a risk of complications. It would be desirable to have a treatment that could prevent fibrofolliculomas from growing. Animal models of BHD have previously shown deregulation of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR). Topical use of the mTOR inhibitor rapamycin i

Topical clobetasol propionate 0.025% oral gel in the treatment of oral lichen planus: a double-blind, randomized placebo-controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic immune‑mediated inflammatory disorder affecting the oral mucosa and characterized by recurring exacerbations and remissions. Complete healing is uncommon. Currently, there is no established curative therapy for OLP. Management strategies are aimed at alleviating clinical symptoms by reducing the underlying inflammatory response. Although some effect of topical corticosteroids has been reported, the level of evidence remains low, as few studies are randomized and placebo controlled. This study evaluated the efficacy of clobetasol compared with p

The efficacy and safety of topical wound oxygen therapy for chronic refractory wounds at high altitude: Protocol for a randomized controlled clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: The hypobaric and hypoxic characteristic of plateau regions can lead to sustained hypoxia, inadequate tissue perfusion, and an inflammatory response at wounds sites. Topical wound oxygen therapy (TOT) shows potential in elevating transcutaneous oxygen tension, stimulating the production of vascular endothelial growth factor, promoting angiogenesis and tissue remodeling, thereby accelerating wound healing. However, there is a scarcity of research investigating the therapeutic efficacy of TOT for treating chronic refractory wounds in long-term inhabitants of plateau areas. The presen

Assessing the efficacy of oral tranexamic acid as an adjuvant to triple combination topical treatment in melasma: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Melasma is a skin pigmentation disorder that lacks consistent treatment success, despite various methods used. Tranexamic acid (TXA) has shown hypopigmentation properties, but whether its administration should be combined with standard treatment has yet to be clarified. We aimed to perform an investigation of the effectiveness and safety of oral TXA as an adjuvant to triple combination cream (TCC) treatment in melasma. We searched PubMed, Embase and Cochrane (CENTRAL) for studies that compared TCC + adjuvant TXA to TCC treatment alone in patients with melasma. Outcomes of interest included cha

Effectiveness of topical hyaluronic acid of different molecular weights in xerosis cutis treatment in elderly: a double-blind, randomized controlled trial.

Dry skin is a common dermatological condition that frequently affects the elderly. A contributing cause to dry skin is a reduced concentration of hyaluronic acid (HA) in both the epidermis and dermis. The effectiveness of moisturizer containing HA as a therapy for dry skin is impacted by its specific molecular weight. Low molecular weight HA (LMWHA) is believed to be more effective in replenishing skin hydration in aging skin compared to High Molecular Weight HA (HMWHA) due to its ability to penetrate the stratum corneum. However, there is a lack of clinical research supporting this claim. A d
