A 54-year-old woman presented with progressive swelling of the right scapula as well as motion-dependent pain. The medical history revealed a polyglandular autoimmune syndrome and lumbar disc degeneration. The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan showed a bilateral well-defined muscle isointense space-occupying lesion situated between the scapula, rib cage and thoracic muscles with homogeneous contrast enhancement. The constellation is indicative of a elastofibroma dorsi, a rare mesenchymal tumor often appearing bilaterally.

A 34-week stillborn infant had omphalocele, agenesis of the sternum and anterior rib cage, membranous diaphragms with eventration of the viscera, ectopia cordis with absence of the pericardium, and congenital heart defect. These findings are consistent with a diagnosis of Cantrell pentalogy. The presence of bilateral clubfeet, spina bifida, hydrocephalus, abnormal ears, and horseshoe kidneys suggested a chromosome abnormality. Chromosome analysis showed trisomy 18. Individuals with manifestations of Cantrell pentalogy deserve cytogenetic evaluation.

Poland syndrome is a rare anomaly characterized by unilateral absence of the pectoral muscles and ipsilateral syndactyly and microdactyly. BACKGROUND: Tumors of the rib cage are uncommon and malignant in 29% of the cases. Chondrosarcoma predominates, accounting for 40% of all cases of malignant costal tumors.
CASE REPORTS: Four patients (3 women, 1 man, mean age 28.2 years) were hospitalized for costal chondrosarcoma. Pain and tumefaction dominated the clinical presentation. Calcifications suggested the diagnosis in 3 cases. Curative surgery was performed in all cases. Postoperative radiotherapy was unable to improve prognosis in 2 patients.

Imaging techniques are widely used for medical diagnostics. In some cases, a lack of medical practitioners who can manually analyze the images can lead to a bottleneck. Consequently, we developed a custom-made convolutional neural network (RiFNet = Rib Fracture Network) that can detect rib fractures in postmortem computed tomography. Osteogenesis imperfecta is a collagen related disorder characterized by increased bone fragility and low bone mass. The important oral finding in osteogenesis imperfect is the presence of dentinogenesis imperfecta. This article presents a case of osteogenesis imperfecta (type IV B) with dentinogenesis imperfecta where a 7-year-old girl had opalacent primary teeth associated with severe bone deformity, scoliosis, barrel shaped rib cage, and short stature. The clinical, radiographic ad histologic features are reviewed along with management aspects.

Six patients with lumbosacral hemivertebrae were treated by one-stage anterior and posterior excision of the hemivertebrae. Long-term follow-up is reported. Overall, correction of the lumbosacral curve was 46%, including one case of pseudarthrosis and subsequent loss of correction. More importantly, truncal imbalance was restored unless other congenital thoracic anomalies were present. New methods of calculating rib cage shift on the pelvis as well as vertebral column displacement from the sagittal plane are presented.

A 3-yr-old adult female roller pigeon ( Columba livia ) used as part of a breeding pair for an ongoing research study presented with acute left limb lameness. BACKGROUND: Rupture of the costal margin is uncommon. Whilst most often seen after major trauma, we describe its occurrence in patients with no direct chest trauma.
