Use of the EA-rosette test to detect the presence or absence of cells with an Fc receptor is proposed as a method of screening for cancerous cells and cells of carcinoma in situ in suspensions of cervical cell populations, The EA-rosette test was performed on cervical cell suspensions from 2,437 patients. A new test termed the human allogeneic rosette test (HART) is reported for the detection of small amounts of erythrocyte autoantibodies. It compares the percentage of rosettes formed around lymphocytes from normal subjects when either red cells from patients are added or autologous or allogeneic normal red cells. Peripheral blood lymphocytes from normal subjects were studied for mouse rosette-forming cells (MRFC) and their relationship to surface immunoglobulins (SIg). The majority of MRFC expressed both SIgM and SIgD, although some dissociation between population showing SIgM+/MRFC- and SIgM-/MRFC+ could be seen. Resected lesions from the pineal region are rare specimens encountered by surgical pathologists, and their heterogeneity can pose significant diagnostic challenges.
