Water contaminated with arsenic presents serious health risks, necessitating effective and sustainable removal methods. This article proposes a method for removing arsenic from water by impregnating biochar with iron oxide (Fe2O3) from brown seaweed (Sargassum polycystum). After the seaweed biomass was pyrolyzed at 400 °C, iron oxide was added to the biochar to increase its adsorptive sites and surface functional groups, which allowed the binding of arsenic ions. Batch studies were conducted to maximize the effects of variables, including pH, contact time, arsenic concentration, and adsorbent

In our previous study, we isolated an active fucoidan fraction (JHCF4) from Sargassum fusiforme. In this study, we compared the cellulase-assisted extract of JHCF4 (JHCF4-e) with the hot-water extract of JHCF4 (JHCF4-t) to evaluate their anti-inflammatory and anti-melanogenic activities. JHCF4-e exhibited higher fucose (63.86 %) and sulfate (17.27 % ± 0.09 %) contents, and demonstrated markedly stronger efficacy. In LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages, JHCF4-e reduced nitric oxide (NO) levels to 42 % at 100 μg/mL, significantly suppressed iNOS and COX-2 expression, and downregulated MAPK phos

BACKGROUND: Neuroinflammation and disrupted cholesterol metabolism in microglia are key contributors to Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathogenesis. Liver X receptors (LXRα/β) regulate lipid metabolism and inflammation. Synthetic pan-LXR agonists, such as T0901317 and GW3965, exert neuroprotective effects by modulating lipid metabolism, making them promising therapeutic strategies for neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer's Disease (AD). However, their clinical use is limited by hepatic side effects, including hypertriglyceridemia and steatosis.
PURPOSE: To overcome these limitations, we inves

Cyanobacteria and algae serving as promising food supplements have recently garnered attention for their emerging potential in anti-cancer activity. Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) or bile duct cancer is one of the top-leading cancers affecting people, particularly in Asian continent. With patients exhibiting no or minimal symptoms in the early stages, advanced CCA is often diagnosed, and primary treatments such as surgery may not be suitable. Discovery of natural bioactive compounds for cancer treatments have, thus, attracted attention as one of the effective means to combat CCA or to supplement pri
