Effect of Orem's Self-Care Model on self-efficacy, self-management, quality of life, and HbA1c among children with type 1 diabetes mellitus in Palestine.

BACKGROUND: Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is a growing global and national health concern, particularly among Palestinian children who face significant psychosocial, educational, and structural barriers to optimal disease management. Effective self-care requires developmentally appropriate education that enhances self-efficacy, supports family involvement, and promotes independent diabetes self-management. Orem’s Self-Care Model provides a theoretical framework for identifying self-care deficits and guiding supportive–educative interventions. AIM: To evaluate the effect of applying Orem’s Se

Voices of unpaid carers: problems and prospects in accessing palliative care and self-care information, resources and services.

BACKGROUND: Unpaid carers make a substantial contribution to the health economy and carers of palliative patients are particularly vulnerable due to special patient needs and excessive carer burden. The Australian Government recently implemented the Integrated Carer Support Service Model to provide a range of free services to carers in the community. However, it is unclear whether such initiatives are effective and, more importantly, how carers of palliative patients gain access to information, support and services for the patient and themselves. OBJECTIVES: We sought to investigate unpaid ca

The Existing Interventions to Promote Self-Care and Self-Monitoring Preventing Hypertension Among Thai Risk People: A Scoping Review.

Hypertension affects one-third of the worldwide adult population and is a major contributor to premature mortality in Thailand. However, hypertension is mainly preventable, highlighting the need for effective prevention strategies to mitigate this critical health concern. This scoping review aimed to identify existing knowledge gaps and provide a comprehensive understanding of hypertension prevention interventions. Keywords were identified, and an unrestricted search for empirical studies was conducted until December 20, 2024. The search strategy encompassed 11 databases. Ultimately, studies f

Self-Efficacy, Self-Care, Glycaemic Control, and Quality of Life Among Adults With Type 2 Diabetes: A Scoping Review.

INTRODUCTION: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is no longer just a metabolic diagnosis; it is a daily test of confidence, endurance and quality of life. Traditional measures such as haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) provide only a partial picture, while patients' beliefs about their ability to manage diabetes may be equally crucial. This scoping review examines how self-efficacy and self-care behaviours intersect with glycaemic control and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in adults with T2DM across diverse health systems and cultures. METHODS: Following the Arksey and O'Malley framework and PRISMA

Health-Related Stigma, Social Support, Self-Efficacy, and Self-Care Actions Among Adults With Sickle Cell Disease in Oman.

Stigma contributes to the burden of individuals and families affected by Sickle cell disease (SCD) and causes delay in appropriate care seeking. The aim of this study is to examine the levels and associations between stigma, social support, self-efficacy, and self-care actions among adult patients with SCD in Oman using a cross-sectional, correlational design. Of the 264 participants, 56.1% (n = 148) were males, with mean age of 30.1 years (SD 7.7). Half of the participants were married, and 88.3% had no other associated diseases. The results demonstrate that patients in Oman suffer from healt

A Patient-Centered Ethical Framework for Irritable Bowel Syndrome Care: Communication, Trust, Nutrition-Sensitive Care, and Self-Management.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a prevalent disorder of gut-brain interaction, characterized by a substantial symptom burden, impaired quality of life, and increased healthcare use. Despite advances in diagnostic criteria and treatment strategies, many patients feel dismissed, inadequately informed, or uncertain about the nature and meaning of their symptoms; these experiences may undermine trust and reduce engagement with healthcare professionals. The aim of this narrative review is to synthesize clinical and ethical considerations and propose a patient-centered ethical framework for IBS ma

Gender, self-care and toxic exposures: a narrative review of personal care product use and health equity implications.

BACKGROUND: Personal care products (PCPs) are widely used across populations, yet their composition includes a range of hazardous chemicals that pose risks to human health and the environment. Emerging evidence highlights how PCP-related exposures are not evenly distributed, but shaped by intersecting forces of gender, race and social inequality. Despite being framed as tools for empowerment and wellness, PCPs may contribute to disproportionate toxic exposures, particularly for women and girls. OBJECTIVE: This narrative review critically examines the environmental health implications of gende

Foot self-care behaviour in primary care patients with diabetic foot ulcers: Structural equation modelling of psychological predictors.

Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are one of the most prevalent and costly diabetes complications, associated with diminished quality of life and poor prognosis. Management of DFUs relies heavily on patients' foot self-care behaviour. This study aims to explore psychological determinants of this important behaviour among primary care patients. A total of 186 patients with active DFUs self-reported their illness perception, diabetes distress, self-efficacy, and foot self-care behaviour. Structural equation modelling was performed to examine interrelationships among measured variables. The final model

Latent profile analysis of mindful self-care and its relationship with professional grief among intensive care unit nurses.

INTRODUCTION: Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nurses are particularly at a high risk of professional grief. Mindful self-care practices were confirmed to improve nurses' mental health status. However, the current studies focusing on mindful self-care among ICU nurses are limited, and the relationship between mindful self-care and professional grief has not been confirmed. This study aims to examine the characteristics and influencing factors of different mindful self-care latent profiles among ICU nurses and investigate the relationship between mindful self-care and professional grief. Enhancing self-care implementation and reducing marker detachment rates in cancer radiotherapy patients through diverse nursing care strategies.

OBJECTIVES: During radiation therapy, clear and stable body-surface markers are essential for accurate patient positioning. Peer benchmarking across four Taiwanese tertiary centers (January 2023-Mar 2024) revealed marker detachment rates of 0.8%-10.7%, whereas our in-house audit documented 15%, underscoring a significant quality gap (unpublished institutional quality assurance data). Marker detachment or fading commonly occurs due to daily activities, hygiene routines, and patient-specific factors, adversely affecting treatment accuracy, prolonging treatment duration, and increasing patient an
