OBJECTIVE: Microsurgical training remains indispensable to master cerebrovascular bypass procedures, but simulation models for training that accurately replicate microanastomosis in narrow, deep-operating corridors are lacking. Seven simulation bypass scenarios were developed that included head models in various surgical positions with premade approaches, simulating the restrictions of the surgical corridors and hand positions for microvascular bypass training. This study describes these models and assesses their validity.
METHODS: Simulation models were created using 3D printing of the skull

INTRODUCTION: Emergency medicine residents use simulation training for many reasons, such as gaining experience with critically ill patients and becoming familiar with disease processes. Residents frequently criticize simulation training using current high-fidelity mannequins due to the poor quality of physical exam findings present, such as auscultatory findings, as it may lead them down an alternate diagnostic or therapeutic pathway. Recently wireless remote programmed stethoscopes (simulation stethoscopes) have been developed that allow wireless transmission of any sound to a stethoscope re

In Hungary, the Institute of Health Sciences at Semmelweis University was the first institution to introduce patient simulation-based practical training of non-physician professionals. Before introducing this novel educational methodology, students could only practice particular examinations and interventions on demonstration tools. Using the simulator they can also follow and analyze the effects of the interventions that have been made. The high fidelity, adult Human Patients Emergency Care Simulator (HPS-ECS, Medical Education Technologies Incorporation, Sarasota, Florida, USA) is particular

BACKGROUND: Simulation-based training is crucial for acquiring emergency medicine competencies during medical education. In Germany, teaching is largely competency-based and guided by the National Competence Based Catalogue of Learning Objectives for Undergraduate Medical Education (NKLM) 2.0. Given the diversity of clinical scenarios and varying student expertise, a standardized assessment instrument is required for objective and reproducible performance evaluation. Moreover, such instruments are essential for educational research.
METHODS: We developed a checklist aligned with NKLM 2.0 and

Home healthcare workers (HHWs) are frequently exposed to occupational safety hazards when servicing clients in their homes. These hazards may take different forms, many of which could be broadly categorized as "Electric, Fire and Burn," "Environmental," or "Slip, Trip, and Lift" hazards. To address this issue, a home healthcare virtual simulation training system (HH-VSTS) was developed. Although prior studies have assessed the usability, usefulness, and desirability of the system, there was a need to determine if the knowledge gained through this training process generalizes to a real-world se

BACKGROUND: Child abuse is an important global public health issue, and early warning signs are often overlooked by clinical healthcare providers because of their limited experience. Injuries such as abusive head trauma (AHT), bruising, burns, and fractures are common and highly suggestive indicators of child abuse. Therefore, it is essential to improve healthcare providers’ ability to recognize abusive injuries. To compare the learning outcomes of clerkship students and resident physicians after participating in a training course on recognizing child abuse–related injuries, and to evaluate im

Intraoperative cardiac arrest during robotic-assisted surgery is rare but poses challenges due to limited patient access and the need for undocking. Evidence on structured team training and system-specific factors affecting time to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) remains limited. This prospective single-center simulation study evaluated six multidisciplinary teams managing standardized cardiac arrest scenarios with the daVinci® and HugoRAS® system. Teams completed three simulations: an unannounced baseline scenario, a second scenario following structured debriefing and introduction of a st
