Thirty-one patients of oral lichen planus were enrolled in this study and two groups were made. Group 1 consisting of 16 patients who applied topical tretinoin 0.05% and Group 2 comprising of 15 patients who were given topical betamethasone dipropionate 0.05%. The patients applying tretinoin showed statistically significant improvement as compared to patients applying betamethasone.

OBJECTIVE: To study the use of topical tretinoin for treating vulvar lichen sclerosus.
STUDY DESIGN: An open, uncontrolled clinical study on 22 patients affected by histologically confirmed vulvar lichen sclerosus. Medication classes historically used in the management of glaucoma include beta blockers, miotics, sympathomimetics and carbonic anhydrase inhibitors. We wish to test that the hazard rate of survival or failure-time data is constant against the alternative of a change in hazard after an unspecified time. The likelihood ratio is unbounded but the exact null distribution of a restricted likelihood-ratio test statistic is found. This distribution is not affected by Type II censoring but it does depend very strongly on the interval in which the unknown change-point is assumed to lie. Some exact percentage points are given which are much larger than simulated points that have been reported in the literature.

The over-the-counter (OTC) sales of drugs were estimated by subtraction of sales on prescription and to hospitals from total drug sales in Sweden during the period 1976-1983. There has been a dramatic decline in reported hospitalization and mortality rates for peptic ulcer disease in the past two decades. Data from the National Center for Health Statistics and from the Commission on Professional and Hospital Activities were examined to determine the cause(s) for this decline. Twenty cases of pemphigus extracted from the literature and 19 patients from UCLA with pemphigus were studied in detail regarding the possible correlation of pemphigus titer and disease activity. A statistically significant relationship between titer and disease activity, as well as change in titer and change in disease activity, was found. However, in spite of this relationship, serial titers were not found to be consistent enough to be used reliably as a guide to therapy or prognosis in pemphigus.
