We report a case of a peripheral anterior inferior cerebellar artery (AICA) aneurysm in a 66-year-old woman. Computed tomography angiography (CTA) demonstrated a saccular aneurysm in the left AICA. A subsequent vertebral digital subtraction angiography using our standard injection technique failed to demonstrate the aneurysm. However, the aneurysm was visualized on a follow-up injection performed with an increased contrast dose and injection rate. CTA proved to be critical in the detection of this aneurysm which could have been easily overlooked on a conventional angiogram.

The signs of arterio-venous fistulae in the extremities have been evaluated by DSA in 20 patients. Angiographic signs for the presence of A-V fistulae are the following findings: dilatation of the supplying artery, elongation of the supplying artery, solitary A-V aneurysm, angiomatous A-V aneurysm, reduced blood flow distal to the A-V fistula, early venous filling, development of a venous collateral circulation and demonstration of retrograde venous flow. Angiography remains the method of choice for demonstrating A-V fistulae.

A young man presented with swelling of his right arm and engorgement of the superficial veins over the shoulder. Bilateral upper limb venography was performed and confirmed the presence of thrombus in the right subclavian vein. Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) of the upper extremity is an unusual thrombotic event with a reported incidence of 1-2% of all cases of venous occlusion. Review of the literature reveals a number of diverse aetiologies, and no agreement regarding the best terminology for the subgroups of this disorder.

Intraarterial digital subtraction angiography (DSA) was applied 44 times to 39 neurosurgical cases. We emphasize the advantage of DSA in relation to conventional angiography. The examination consisted of 25 aortography and 19 selective arteriography. The results of 300 digital subtraction angiographies of the thoracic and abdominal aorta are analysed. Following intraarterial injection of contrast, all examinations were of good quality. Digital subtraction laryngography was used to evaluate laryngeal function in 8 patients: 4 with normal larynxes and 4 with laryngeal disease. Subtracted digital images provided a dynamic display of the extent and symmetry of vocal cord excursions and pyriform sinus inflation, and the vocal cord resting position was also clearly depicted. The paper deals with 2 cases of unilateral tumor of the carotid body, in men aged 46 and 51. The diagnosis, prior to surgery, was achieved through ultrasonographic and scanner studies, as well as conventional or selective angiography (digital subtraction). Although the rat subarachnoid hemorrhage model is well established in vasospasm research, the angiographic evaluation is difficult due to the animal's small size. Since 1985 we have practised scan directed unilateral cervical exploration for patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (HPT) on the basis of a solitary parathyroid adenoma, and who had a pre-operative thallium-technetium subtraction scintigram demonstrating one focus of activity (positive scan). Between 1985 and 1993, a total of 160 patients with proven HPT and a technically satisfactory scintigram underwent neck exploration.
