Depression and anxiety disorders in children and adolescents with velo-cardio-facial syndrome (VCFS).

Velo-cardio-facial syndrome (VCFS) is characterized by a high prevalence of depression and anxiety disorders in childhood and adolescence. These disorders are a source of great impairment in everyday functioning, as well as important risk factors for the emergence of later psychotic disorders. Impairment in daily and social functioning as well as loss of IQ throughout growth are also are well-established correlates of the VCFS. This study aimed to confirm the high prevalence of depression and anxiety disorders. The second objective was to ascertain the correlation between anxious and depressiv

The relationship between blood pressure and personality in a large unselected adult sample.

As part of a general health survey of a small New Zealand town, the Crow-Crisp Experiential Index, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, a shortened version of the Hostility and Direction of Hostility Questionnaire, and the Zung Self-rating Depression Scale were administered to 1173 subjects over the age of 15. Blood pressure was moderately correlated with age and Quetelet's Index, a measure of obesity. Low but significant correlations were found between Somatic Anxiety, Hysteria, and the Urge to Act-out Hostility scale. However, when effects of age were controlled for, in a series of multiple re

The dental anxiety scale (DAS) - psychometric properties and longitudinal findings among middle-aged adults.

BACKGROUND: The Dental Anxiety Scale (DAS) is a well-established instrument for assessing dental anxiety. While numerous cross-sectional studies have examined the DAS, longitudinal research investigating age-related changes, reliability, validity over time, associations with mental and physical health, and demographic determinants remains limited. Furthermore, the possibility of longitudinal changes in its factor structure has received limited attention. METHODS: In 2013/2014, N = 329 German adults (53.6% female, mean age 40.20 years) and in 2019/2020, N = 323 adults (55.7% female, mean age 4

Vestibular disorder and emotional distress.

A standardised test of psychopathology (CCEI) was administered to tinnitus sufferers some of whom also complained of dizziness. It was predicted that the complaint of dizziness would be associated with higher scores on the anxiety scales of the CCEI and this was confirmed. Subjects complaining of dizziness obtained much higher scores on 'phobic' and 'somatic' anxiety scales in particular. However, the complaint of dizziness was completely uncorrelated with objective assessments of balance and there was no effect of balance, objectively assessed, in moderating the association between the compla

Application of a new statistical approach to evaluate a clinical trial with panic disorder patients.

In clinical trials in psychiatry, changes in severity are usually measured with ordinal level scales which are applied repeatedly during the trial, showing a constant decline in psychopathology scores as treatment leads to improvement. Previous non-parametric tests for repeated measures in factorial designs did not test the hypothesis that scale scores decrease constantly during the trial. A recently developed "rank test for ordered alternatives in a mixed model" was developed and applied to the data of a clinical trial in panic disorder. Thirty-seven outpatients with panic disorder and agorap
