Primitive Neuroectodermal Tumor of Nasal Cavity on 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography-Computed Tomography.

Primitive neuroectodermal tumor is a malignant small round cell tumor of presumed neural crest origin, usually affecting the bony structures of the nasal cavity and its clinical and radiological features may be confused with those of infection and malignancy. I report a case with primitive neuroectodermal tumor of the nasal cavity showing increased tracer uptake on 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography mimicking an another primary malignancy in a 17-year-old boy.

Single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography of the skull in malignant otitis externa.

Malignant otitis externa is a severe, rare infective condition of the external auditory canal and skull base. The diagnosis is generally made from a range of clinical, laboratory, and imaging findings. Technetium 99m methylene diphosphonate bone scintigraphy is known to detect osteomyelitis earlier than computed tomography. The authors present a patient with bilateral malignant otitis externa where the extent of skull base involvement was determined on 3-phase bone scintigraphy with single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography.

Back pain in adolescents: assessment with integrated 18F-fluoride positron-emission tomography-computed tomography.

The aim of the present study was to assess the ability of a novel bone imaging technique to diagnose accurately the cause for back pain as an isolated and presenting complaint in adolescents. An integrated 18F-fluoride positron-emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) study was performed at the same setting without changing the patients' position, followed by generation of fused images of functional and anatomical data. Fifteen subjects were included in the study. The interpretation of PET-CT fused images was based on increased 18F-fluoride uptake and the corresponding CT-located abnor

Occult choriocarcinoma discovered by positron emission tomography/computed tomography imaging following a successful pregnancy.

BACKGROUND: Positron emission tomography (PET) is commonly used to detect occult or recurrent malignancy, including tumors of the female genital tract. Recently, there have been reports of PET scans used in patients with Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (GTD). CASE: A 22-year-old female presented with vaginal bleeding and elevated beta-hCG 7 months after a spontaneous vaginal delivery of a healthy infant. She had a history of molar pregnancy and persistent GTD requiring multi-agent chemotherapy. Metastatic evaluation with computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging showed no evidence

Characterization of canine metastatic pulmonary nodules on 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography.

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary metastasis is a major cause of mortality in dogs with cancers, but traditional thoracic imaging methods, such as radiographs and computed tomography (CT), have limited sensitivity for detecting small nodules. 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/CT (18F-FDG PET/CT) offers functional imaging capabilities and may improve metastasis detection and cancer staging. However, its role in evaluating pulmonary nodules in dogs is not well understood, and species-specific imaging parameters are lacking. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to characterize metastatic pulmonary

Quarter Century Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography Transformation of Oncology: Head and Neck Cancer.

During the last 2 decades, f-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F FDG PET/CT) has transformed the clinical head and neck cancer imaging for patient management and predicting survival outcomes. It is now widely used for staging, radiotherapy planning, posttherapy assessment, and for detecting recurrence in head and neck cancers and is widely included in NCCN and other evidence based clinical practice guidelines. Future Directions would include evaluating the potential value of FAPI PET/CT for head and neck cancers, opportunity to use volumetric and tumor h

Revised consensus guidelines for the use of cone-beam computed tomography/ digital volume tomography.

Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is established in dentistry for about 20 years. Technique evolved and indications clarified since then and since the Swiss consensus guidelines regarding CBCT were published in 2014 and 2015. Therefore, the Swiss association of dentomaxillofacial radiology decided to initiate the process of updating these guidelines by forming a consensus group divided into a core group responsible for the whole process and an approval group responsible for specific clinical matters. The manuscript outlines the revised guidelines in a practical way and is divided along the

Identification of Optical Coherence Tomography-Defined Coronary Plaque Erosion by Preprocedural Computed Tomography Angiography.

Background A previous coronary computed tomography (CT) angiographic study failed to discriminate optical coherence tomography-defined intact fibrous cap culprit lesions (IFC group) from those with ruptured fibrous caps (RFC group) in patients with coronary artery disease. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of preprocedural coronary CT imaging in identifying subsequently performed optical coherence tomography-defined plaque rupture or erosion at culprit lesions in patients with non-ST-segment-elevation acute myocardial infarction. Methods and Results This study used data from

Benign Metastasizing Leiomyoma and Findings on Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography/Contrast-Enhanced Computed Tomography.

Benign metastasizing leiomyoma is a rare condition where benign smooth muscle tumors having a histological appearance similar to uterine leiomyoma are present at distant sites. This entity is commonly associated with a past history of hysterectomy done for uterine fibroids. The knowledge of the presence of significant fluorodeoxyglucose uptake in leiomyoma helped in the diagnosis of this condition in a 47-year-old patient who being evaluated for multiple unusual sites of metastases; this was further confirmed on histopathology.

Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography/Computed Tomography Detects a Second Ignored Intrathyroidal Parathyroid Adenoma.

The primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is a result of high levels of parathyroid hormone and serum calcium, the most frequent cause is a solitary parathyroid adenoma. Double parathyroid adenoma is <5% of the PHPT. Intrathyroidal parathyroid adenoma (IPA) occurs< 3.2%. We present a case of 58-year-old female with persistent primary hyperparathyroidism due to a second undetected IPA, suspected by ultrasound and confirmed by 99mTc sestamibi single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography.
