Bilateral maxillary and mandibular fourth molars: a case report and literature review.

Supernumerary teeth are those present in addition to the normal set of teeth. These teeth are found in both the primary and the permanent dentitions, and are most frequently seen in the maxillary anterior and molar regions. Supernumerary molars are divided into two types, depending on their location: distomolars and paramolars. Distomolars usually occur in the form of a fourth molar distal to the third molar, while paramolars are rudimentary supernumerary teeth that might develop buccally or lingually to the molar series. The management of a supernumerary tooth should be part of a comprehensiv

[Case report of three impacted supernumerary teeth in the premaxillary region].

A case is presented of a six-year-six-month-old boy with three impacted supernumerary teeth in the premaxillary region. The radiographic examination showed one mesiodens resorbing the root of the left primary central incisor and two inverted supernumerary teeth, also displacement of the unerupted permanent central incisors. Surgical treatment was performed to remove these supernumerary teeth. The forms of the mesiodens exhibited tubercularly shaped crown with four-conical cusp and two inverted supernumerary teeth showed a conicalshaped crown with incomplete root. According to the family histor

Mesiodens with an unusual morphology and multiple impacted supernumerary teeth in a non-syndromic patient.

Supernumerary teeth are a relatively frequent disorder of odontogenesis characterized by an excess number of teeth. Mesiodens is the most common type of supernumerary tooth found in the premaxilla between the two central incisors. They can be supplemental (resembling natural teeth), conical, tuberculate or molariform. We present the case of a 19 year-old girl who presented with a mesiodens of an unusual morphology and multiple impacted supernumerary teeth not associated with any syndrome.

Side of dental anomalies and taurodontism as potential clinical markers for cleft subphenotypes.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this work was to investigate in more detail the dental clinical features that could serve to define subphenotypes of oral clefts. DESIGN: Dental records of oral cleft subjects from a group of 164 cases were examined, and 157 were included in this study. In addition, 65 families with two or more siblings born with clefts and 30 control families were evaluated to determine whether dental phenotypes were sporadic. Type of oral cleft and dental phenotypes (tooth agenesis, supernumerary teeth, taurodontism, dental transposition, and microdontia) outside the cleft area were in

Multiple supernumerary teeth in a likely syndromic individual from prehistoric Illinois.

OBJECTIVE: This paper reports the first published case of a prehistoric human with five or more supernumerary teeth. Such cases are often neglected in paleopathology, in part due to a gap between the medicodental and anthropological literature leading to the view in anthropology that supernumerary teeth are curious anomalies rather than pathologies. DESIGN: Reconstruction and pathological description of the skeletal remains were performed according to standard osteological protocols. Each supernumerary tooth was categorized based on its morphology, location, and orientation. The dental charac

[Variations of dentition in raccoon dogs (Nyctereutes Procynoides Viverrinus T.) Anomalies in number of the teeth].

A study on the number of anomalous teeth was made by using gross and radiographic examinations on 179 skulls (male: 68, female: 53, unknown: 58) of raccoon dogs (Nyctereutes Procynoides Viverrinus T.) captured in the northern part of Kyushu. Results were as follows: 1. 8 skulls had 15 supernumerary teeth. They were in the upper incisor, the upper third premolar and the upper and lower first premolar regions. 2. 35 skulls had 58 congenitally missing teeth. Most of them were upper and lower first premolars or lower third molars. 3. One skull had one supernumerary tooth in the upper second inciso

A coding solution for supernumerary teeth.

In South Africa payments for treatment rendered are routinely delayed because of the medical fund industry's apparent inability to capture codes denoting supernumerary teeth. The suggested protocol allows for up to 13 supernumerary teeth to be identified by two digits. Meetings planned between SADA and key funding stakeholders to "ensure that protocols related to tooth numbering are acceptable", provide the ideal opportunity to introduce the suggested two-digit protocol for numbering supernumerary teeth. If this proposal is implemented, it could alleviate the frustration associated with the re

Case report: Evaluation of supernumerary teeth with computerized tomography.

Radiographs play an important role in assessment of both the location and the typing of supernumerary teeth. In general, periapical, occlusal, and/or panoramic radiographs are sufficient for providing the information required by the clinician. These modalities, however, do not provide detailed information concerning the 3-dimensional relationship between supernumerary or ectopically impacted teeth and adjacent structures. This case report discusses the value of computerized tomography (CT) for evaluation of the root relationships of supernumerary teeth located palatally to maxillary permanent

Navigation-Guided Extraction of Impacted Supernumerary Teeth: A Case Report.

Supernumerary teeth usually result in retarded eruption, malocclusion, poor esthetics, and cyst formation. Management involves surgical extraction, which can be challenging in certain complicated cases owing to the risk of injury to young permanent tooth germs or fragile roots. The present report describes a novel preoperative computer-assisted and intraoperative navigation-guided surgical treatment for a case of complicated impacted supernumerary teeth. The report highlights accurate tooth location and minimal invasion with use of the navigation-guided system. Moreover, it discusses various t

Statistical analysis of parameters for the ramus, teeth, and biomechanical stress: A retrospective study.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the correlation between the anterior border absorption of the mandibular ramus and the occurrence of supernumerary teeth, along with the biomechanical stress. DESIGN: The bone mass of mandibular ramus was evaluated on CBCT images by bone mass analysis. In addition, the number of supernumerary teeth and corresponding anatomical positions were recorded. RESULTS: The CBCT images of 5100 patients were analyzed. Along with eruption of mandibular permanent molars in sequence, the width of the ramus increased from 29.02 mm to 36.02 mm (P < 0.001). The proportion of the width f

Microdont Developing Outside the Alveolar Process and Within Oral Diffuse and Plexiform Neurofibroma in Neurofibromatosis Type 1.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Numerical aberrations of permanent dentition and dystopic tooth eruption are part of the phenotype of the tumor predisposition syndrome neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). In these cases, surplus tooth germs usually develop in the alveolar processes of the jaw. This report attests to the dystopic development of a dysplastic supernumerary tooth in NF1 arising outside the jaw. CASE REPORT: The 8-year-old male patient developed a microdont outside the bone and above the occlusal plane of the retained maxillary right second molar. The supernumerary tooth was completely embedded in ora

Multiple Impacted Supernumerary Teeth in a Non-syndromic Class III Malocclusion Patient: A Case Report.

Supernumerary teeth are considered a numerical dental anomaly characterized by an excess of teeth. They may appear as single, double, or, more rarely, multiple teeth and can be associated with various syndromes. A 21-year-old male patient presented to the orthodontic department at the Dental Consultation and Treatment Center in Rabat, Morocco, seeking care for esthetic concerns. Clinical examination revealed a Class III malocclusion with crowding, the absence of tooth 44, and arch asymmetry. Panoramic radiography revealed the impaction of tooth 44 along with five additional supernumerary teeth

The Role of Artificial Intelligence in the Accurate Diagnosis and Treatment Planning of Non-Syndromic Supernumerary Teeth: A Case Report in a Six-Year-Old Boy.

Hyperdontia can cause numerous aesthetic and functional problems. The diagnosis is made radiologically, and the most commonly used radiological method is orthopantomography, while CBCT is also used. CBCT has the advantage of being three-dimensional. Artificial Intelligence is widely used in medicine and dentistry, and it can create a specific algorithm to aid in diagnosis and suggest therapeutic procedures. In a case report, a 6-year-old boy was diagnosed with a supernumerary tooth between the upper central incisors. Orthopantomography revealed another impacted supernumerary tooth, and the pat

Rudiment incisors survive and erupt as supernumerary teeth as a result of USAG-1 abrogation.

The term "supernumerary teeth" describes production of more than the normal number of teeth in the primary or permanent dentitions. Their aetiology is not understood. Uterine sensitization associated gene-1 (USAG-1) is a BMP antagonist that plays important roles in the local regulation of BMP signaling by binding and neutralizing BMP activities, and also serves as a modulator of Wnt signaling. We report here that USAG-1 deficient mice have supernumerary teeth. The supernumerary maxillary incisor appears to form as a result of the successive development of the rudimentary upper incisor tooth. W

Bilateral tuberculate supernumerary teeth.

Supernumerary teeth are teeth in excess of the normal series occurring in any region of the dental arch. They are located mostly in the anterior maxillary region and are classified according to their location and morphology. The tuberculate type of supernumerary tooth possesses more than one cusp or tubercle (barrel shaped). It is rare to find bilateral tuberculate supernumerary teeth in the premaxillary region and when found they rarely erupt. This report describes a 13-year-old boy with erupted palatally placed bilateral tuberculate supernumerary teeth. The presence of these supernumerary te
