[Survey of treatment-seeking complete denture wearers concerning tooth loss, retention behavior and treatment expectations].

The aim of the current study was to gather information about time and etiology of tooth loss, and to analyze the reasons for treatment needs with a questionnaire used among edentulous patients. 60 patients (age 44-98 years) who requested dental treatment were included. More than half of the patients were edentulous before the age of 60, in almost all cases the maxilla was affected first. This difference was more pronounced in women, who experienced tooth loss in the maxilla 17 years prior to the mandible. At the time of edentulism women were about ten years younger than men. According to patie

Tooth Loss-Associated Mechanisms That Negatively Affect Cognitive Function: A Systematic Review of Animal Experiments Based on Occlusal Support Loss and Cognitive Impairment.

BACKGROUND: There is a dose-response relationship between tooth loss and cognitive impairment, while tooth loss can be an independent risk factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD) and vascular dementia (VaD). Tooth loss can also accelerate nerve damage and neurodegeneration. However, the associated mechanisms remain poorly understood. OBJECTIVE: To conduct a systematic review of animal experiments on cognitive decline caused by the loss of occlusal support performed over the past 10 years and summarize the possible underlying mechanisms. METHODS: "Tooth Loss," "Edentulous," "Tooth Extraction and

A Randomized Double-Masked Clinical Trial Comparing Four Periodontitis Treatment Strategies: 5-Year Tooth Loss Results.

BACKGROUND: Tooth loss is the ultimate negative consequence of periodontitis, and reports of the extent to which different treatment strategies may influence long-term tooth loss are hard to find. This study aims to test the hypothesis that there is no difference in 5-year clinical outcome of therapy in terms of tooth mortality between groups of patients treated with conventional scaling and root planing (SRP) over weeks or same-day full-mouth disinfection (FDIS), with or without adjunctive metronidazole (MET). METHODS: One hundred eighty-four patients with moderate-to-severe periodontitis we
